Soderbergh is an interesting director with quite a diverse oeuvre. No Sudden Move (2021, only streaming so far) was a solid neo noir with a slightly irritating picture distortion, the action-packed black ops thriller Haywire (2011) introduced Gina Carano to the world of movies, and Side Effects combines Hitchcockian thrills with pills to some good uhm … effect. Contagion I always liked till 2020. Now I see it as some kind of preparation cinema which only tells half the story - the first half is missing. We could have gained something, eh?
Hi Adam, I always watch your reviews. Today, on holidays, I am gonna ask you what I aleats been wondering with an example in this review: Extras a D- since no new addition to previous releases. I would ask you to use the same categorization into the Audio Scale: if no updates to the Audio Mix, just start with a D. How is it fare to a new encoding they spent hours for DRS X or Atmos? A release on Atmos for rating B- is it the same as untouche audio from decades ago? I dont think so
I have to score based on what “is” as opposed to what “should” If an audio mix is a port of a fantastic dts 5.1, why would I score it a D if it didn’t get an Atmos upgrade? To me it’s a disingenuous way to grade something. The extras got a D because what extra content is in there is very little to begin with.
