Awesome! I was never more excited to beat a game than I was with The Legend of Zelda. I remember seeing the gold cartridge at the toy store. I had to have it. I had to beat it. Took me months, though! And with very sore thumbs. Haha. Watching your speedrun brought back many fond memories. Thank you and congratulations!
About 8 months of my life and remember there was no internet then so a lot harder--had to figure it out and ask your friends--and just bomb and burn stuff hoping a secret passage would open

Exactly. That shopkeeper has a timer that runs down upon entering the screen. That same timer continues to run down while the whistle blows, so it saves time by overlapping a recorder blow with that timer
To think that clip from raft spot lvl 4, over to the meat and arrow shop, made the big difference, and not having to get bombs from triple dodongo room in 7. That 9 was a bit rough but 3 pbs in 2 days, you wanted that wr BAAAADLY!

I played this when it first came out. Started palying it again last month on switch. I've never seen some of the stunts you pulled. very impressed. congrats. why do you count your kills though?
After warping to L4, you need to blow the whistle twice to warp to 2. So instead of doing that after level 6, you can do it when the armos is spawning by that shop since the armos timer runs down while the recorder is playing.
It's a bit more complicated and hard to understand than the Level 1 in-out-in to get the upper locked door to disappear :) So it's a small time saver? Cut 1/2 second or so? :) When the renovation chaos is over where I live, I gonna play Zelda 1 on my NES Mini a lot!! 😍 and try to learn as many glitches and time savers as possible. But how do I create a setup like yours so I can see my splits and have a timer? I got no PC, only Macs. They are Intel-Macs :)
I learned something today: Zelda's sprite always matches Link's in color. Never knew that since I've never beaten the game without the Red Ring, so I just assumed she always had a red dress.

You see, one meaning of "beat up" is slang for when somebody is injured in a fight (think school bullies or the mafia injuring someone for a late payment).
I know that I'm probably the last person to get this info 😂 but how do you export from the wrong side of the board to the next board? (You did it a couple times in the first few seconds of the game on the way to level 3). And also, how do you do the pause/continue so quickly to restart the board (as you did in level 3)? Amazing job on the speed run!
Hah, it's called a "screen scroll". You can check ou this image for more info: redcandle.us/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/screenscroll.png If you press start to bring up the menu and then press up+A on the 2nd controller, you will get the continue/save/retry menu. This starts you at the beginning of the dungeon you are in or at the start screen in the overworld.
How in the world are you jumping screens in the beginning? Also how do u get inside the diamond of rocks with out killing everyone and pushing a rock? What button patterns?
Finally, after almost 28 whole minutes, peace returns to Hyrule.

Bubbles do zero damage and attached gleeok heads only do 3/8 hearts of damage, giving the impression that it does no damage.
