On the note of death korps never rebelling, there is a short story where one does go awol and take on a dead mans identity, and with the casualties so high and war on the planet so hectic no one looks too deeply into it, but he does end up re enlisting into the guard by the end cause he couldn’t integrate into civilian life.

Highly recommended the Siege of Vraks animation by Janovich, think you'd have a lot to say about it

this scen actually reminds of the Attack of the Clones where the clonetroopers are arroyed in the same massive block formations and Bording their assault ships. its very similar and they ARE LITERLLY CLONES just like the Kriegsmen.
Though they use a lot of different templates unlike clone troopers and they still have regular born humans.
Overlooked thing about krieg never faltering in the siege the 158th regiment retreated back to their own lines during the big push due to sheer casualties and low morale. The regiment was then dissolved with the command staff being executed
Small mistake Vraks is not homeworld of Death Korps of Krieg homeworld is Krieg . Vraks is one of the brutal campaign when kriegs bleed for the emperor and redemption.
This just makes me want more reactions to arch's vraks series
I've listened to the siege of Vraks and the war for Badab almost 7 times each now. Can't get enough.
12:42 I didn't get super exact with my Counting but it's safe to say each one of those squares is going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000- 1,200 men.
As a result of that in that big panning shot you see probably somewhere between 120,000 and 250,000 depending on a variety of things such as guys still in the tunnels and how many of those formations they're actually are
Regardless this number of men would likely be seen as similar to how a single battalion is seen by the US Military. And for those who don't realize it I'm pretty sure a battalion is about 1,000 soldiers and that should tell you the absolute massive scale on which the Imperium of Man declares war.
They deployed 1.600.000 Kriegmen in Vraks, not including tank and artillery operators and airship pilots.
There are cases where the Death Korps have failed to charge or even fallen back - in one case in the Vraks story (The Big Push) a regiment even fragging their commissars in the process.
The Korps don't falter *often* but they are still human. It's also worth noting that Krieg are at least in-vitro babies and possibly straight up clones, so genetics may be less of an issue.
Siege of Vraks isn't an example of a 'well run' campaign but it does dig into concepts of logistics and battle fatigue in a way 40k usually doesn't.
Arch's series on the Badab War is also great. I generally prefer that to Vraks, but Vraks definitely has great moments.
It's worth noting that canonically the Krieg DO panic and flee, just more rarely than other units. There's an instance in the Siege of Vraks where Krieg troops stop advancing through an artillery barrage and rout, even killing their officers and commissars who try to stop them.
