The fact that this game is so heavily based around early twenties Americana really does give the English voice acting more impact. Not to say that the Japanese voice actors were bad, not even close. But there's a certain charm that just isn't there somehow. I'm not going to say I know much about Japanese pop culture during that time period, but it seems to me like the aesthetic of the game gave the English voice actors more archetypes to work with.

Based off these comments I can confirm that first impressions of voices will always make people biased. Which is why people will like Japanese VA more in anime more because that's what comes out first. Vice versa with the English VA of this game
Afflictionnz Eh, I can see Parasoul’s or Big Band's as equally good despite being that sort of hammy-intense tone that the originals aren't. There's a reason that there's "confirmation bias" for the originals, it's because they were all run past Alex Ahad and the others at Lab Zero. It's not just about actual voice, it's tone. Some of the JP voices are inferior and there's none superior. Though I particularly like the Sekhmet interpretation (aside from the weirder laugh). if I-No in Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN's dub was voiced by Laura Post, I would have been all about that.
Okay, I retract my earlier statement that Parasoul's voice is any good. Well, actually, the voiced story mode seems fine, but her battle lines are awful. They are not Parasoul, and I can't imagine Mitsuru sounding like that either.
While i agree that 1st impressions are a factor, the fact that the game was with english in mind and not japanese it makes more sense that the english fits better with the game, same happens in anime, they were made with japanese in mind, so its only natural it sounds better and more natural in japanese, rarely does a dub or translation sound better than original, it just becomes a different product and wether its better or worse depends on the person, but genreal consensus is that the original language works better in anime dubs, vice versa

It really sounds like the voice director didn't give some of them direction, so they just read their scripts. A lot of energy is just missing. I think Eliza's is the best, but everyone else just seems sort of eh. Not bad, just...there.

I can't really comment on though don't see either as Better or worse but I prefer English. Painwheel and Big Band are the one's I'd say weren't given much direction cause they've went through so much personality change lmao

I was immediately suspicious when I thought I heard an "Ora" out of Beowolf. Pleasantly surprised that Daisuke Ono voiced him. However, I do have to agree that it doesn't seem he really fit the role. Props to him for at least trying for something new.
It was a hard choice between Eliza and Beowulf for me(on your poll). But in all fairness this game pumps out amazing characters all the way! 5/5 on each! Everyone is developed, unique, and have a nice charm.

It's super bizarre to hear the Japanese voices, then have sound effects obviously recorded by the English voice actors (Squigly's Battle Opera, "NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN") remain in the game
I like Fortune/R.F., but I agree that some of the others sound off at times. The announcers are especially meh. Since the announcers' lines are filled with a lot of awkwardly timed Engrish, you might as well just keep it on English. DATSUN FOX It's really awesome that this happened tho. I love that ASW showed so much interest to seriously push this release. Skullgirls really is the world's game now!

It really sounds like the voice director didn't give some of them direction, so they just read their scripts. A lot of energy is just missing. I think Eliza's is the best, but everyone else just seems sort of eh. Not bad, just...there.

I like Fortune/R.F., but I agree that some of the others sound off at times. The announcers are especially meh. Since the announcers' lines are filled with a lot of awkwardly timed Engrish, you might as well just keep it on English. DATSUN FOX
