Eden is killing it SO HARD that even though she's flat a few times it literally doesn't matter because she's so in it you don't even notice. Incredible.
7:08-7:22 Kendra is a master of her craft. "Go, Elphie!", a believable struggle with the guards, and throwing her hand back at the same time as the guards falling... really adding to the illusion that Elphaba's takeoff was so powerful it knocked the guards down. Superb!
@@dontexpectit4956 you know, I’ve often wondered that as well. When she shouts “stop”, not only did Elphaba stop chanting, the guards stopped trying to break in. They only finally broke into the room when both of them let their guard down enough to not be focused on them trying to get in.
OMG nunca había visto eso es cierto Glinda extiende el brazo y al bajarlo también caen los guardias, eso da la impresión de que Glinda salvo a Elphaba para que no la agarraran por que estaba apunto de levitar. Woooow wooooow wooooow.
I'm Speechless!! Why couldn't Hollywood have chosen some of these EPIC Wicked Veterans for the movie version?! I'm so afraid of what will become of the movie adaptation. It will either fly or flop!!
i love how with the last glimmer of light that shines on Eden's face you can see the excitement/terror that Elphie (and probably Eden herself) are feeling at that moment. Awesome.
I saw EDEN on BROADWAY right after she started on BROADWAY and she was MAGICAL.. Poor girl . I dont know how any of them have a voice at the end of the day.. THIS SONG IS HARD FOR EVEN THE MOST SEASONED SINGER.. she fought for that! Good for her! I also saw her in BRKLYN as well and she was amazing.
Kendra's add in's and acting are crazy here! Like I've seen very few Glinda's show so much presence and involment in Defying Gravity and it adds SO much more! More Kendra! Please!
So to me, there’s the Elphabas… but then there’s Eden she is so different and great.. she definitely stands apart from the other girls. She’s in a category of her own🤌💚🖤✨.
I am sobbing right now. I have seen this show FOUR TIMES, once on Broadway, twice in LA, once in San Diego, I have watched probably every bootleg that exits (including Korean), and THIS performance right here is one of the best I have EVER seen. The acting itself, forget the phenomenal singing. Part of it is the audience is full of people who haven't seen the show before and the THRILL of that closing number is contagious as you hear the audience screaming. I maintain this is THE BEST CLOSING NUMBER OF A SECOND ACT IN THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATER. Give me a better one. I'll wait.
i mean THIS IS THE BEST but another closing number of an act would be frozen west end or broadway's let it go. it involves so many magical moments like a flying cape and even a 0.34 second dress change onstage. i highly suggest you check out samantha barks' close up let it go. it begins a bit later into the song but still is so good.
I met Kendra as a kid in San Francisco. I saw wicked as a kid with Teal Wicks and Kendra, and needless to say I still cry watching clips because I’m also an actor and I need that to be me. I still have the signed poster and pics with Kendra and Teal on my wall at my parents house.
I remember when I played this video all the time, I did it especially while I was at home since it seemed to me the best presentation I have heard, at that time I did not even know who Eden Espinosa was, however one day I had problems with the internet and I downloaded the audio to be able to listen to it while I was working and during those days UA-cam deleted the video, so I treasured the audio because I could have lost it forever, now before starting a new year I find the video again and I can tell you that my heart fills with much emotion and gratitude to know that I can see it again. Thanks to you I will have it on my computer and my cell phone forever and I will treasure it as my great gift, today I have recovered many audios of Eden and I keep them in case they are eliminated and I can say that as Eden espinosa none. Thanks a lot
Eden did good job in " ' Well that's love she sounded like Kim walker inside her little bit and at the end she sounded like Choking on Hull Clean drain cleaner after Heather Chandler in the film Heathers in1989 and i think Eden Espinosa sounded like Heather Chandler.
Wow, are those IDINA MENZEL RIFFS? This might be the last time Idina's meeeEEEE rise up and riffed soloOO have been used! I wish more people would reprise them, Eden definitely did the right choice in keeping them (this is the first time I listen to an Eden audio btw)
id argue eden is one of the only ones that could go toe to toe with idina. she kept those riffs AND NAILED THEM and all her work after has been some of the most impressive work i’ve ever heard. listen to “crossing the line” and “nothing left to lose” from tangled the series. Next level honestly.
@@CAM-sf9yy Yeah, Eden definitely is one of the best Elphabas, period. Her time as Idina's standby really taught her how to properly play and understand the role. Unlike other actresses, her riffs are calculated and have a reason to be there other than showing off. She even managed to make me bear the SJB IT'S MEEEEEE screech, which I though was impossible for me. Doesn't mean I like it, but when Eden does it, it's passable. Still will never be able to beat the rise up from this pefromance, which was just perfection
can we talk about the chemistry and ACTING between kendra and eden? i swear i notice something new every time i rewatch this.
Idina Menzel was spectacular... and Eden Espinosa paid beautifully gorgeous homage to Idina but still made it her own... this was EPIC.
THIS IS THE VIDEO!!
I saw it once and never found it again. “And nobody… uuuughn!!… in all of Oz.” Idk why but I just love it so much.
Eden is killing it SO HARD that even though she's flat a few times it literally doesn't matter because she's so in it you don't even notice. Incredible.
her power , her riffs changed the game

I wonder if it's possible that Glinda had magic the whole time and had the wrong reasons to use it. I like to think Glinda threw the guards down!
@@dontexpectit4956 you know, I’ve often wondered that as well. When she shouts “stop”, not only did Elphaba stop chanting, the guards stopped trying to break in. They only finally broke into the room when both of them let their guard down enough to not be focused on them trying to get in.
Such a superior acting choice by Kendra there. Underrated Glinda!!!

If it wasn’t gonna be a Wicked veteran, I think their choice was perfect. Cynthia Erivo is on another world vocally
The chemistry between Eden and Kendra... you just don't get that kind of chemistry often.
i love how with the last glimmer of light that shines on Eden's face you can see the excitement/terror that Elphie (and probably Eden herself) are feeling at that moment. Awesome.
I've heard her sing this live but this is my first time hearing this version. Wow!!! She put that gospel spin at 7:48. You better sang Eden!!!💖💯💫👏🏾

@ 8:21 there’s a darkness about the flatness of the note with the orchestra that I just love!
wow

She is flat for 3/4 of the songs climax. SF was a disaster for her.
Hungarian
If I’m not mistaken this is the gym teacher (Ms. Gardner) from Carrie the Musical in Seattle. She’s wonderful!
kendra was indeed ms gardner in seattle! she nailed that role so well
Eden is always a winner, start to finish! I mean even her scowl at the end was executed perfectly! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👌🏽

I was so lucky to see them together in San Francisco! Eden's voice was so beautiful that I got chills.

I always wonder what would’ve happened if galinda joined her. They execute that love so beautifully
It's that first resonant "I can't imagine HOOOOOOW" that sets the tone for the whole performance - simply spectacular...you feel it in your chest✔️
The BEST Elphaba
Just over here crying...so amazing. She is one of the greats for sure ✨
Hermosa interpretación simplemente hermosa interpretación.
I think I saw her in RENT.

I saw her early on as the understudy for Idina and she was phenomenal. Wow, her voice is destroyed. It sounds really unhealthy here. :(
she was incredibly under the weather for most of her run in san francisco.
i'm sorry but i can't stand this...is there a possibility her reciever wasnt working right and she couldnt hear herself?
she was really sick during the san francisco run, this is actually one of her better ones from back then.
shes a GREAT actress but she falls flat some time, especially the ''its meeeeee''
San Francisco was not a good run for her. She struggled. This was by far one of her better performances during her final run
