The cadet was the first pair of shoes I got from Thursday and they are still among my favorite. The cadets also have a thinner sole and shorter heel. They’re not as comfortable as the captains because the shock absorption isn’t as good. I’m 99% sure the leather is thinner on the cadets as well.
So the Cadet boot is actually a Blake Stich construction where the President & Captain are goodyear welted. I have a cadet & a captain. The rubber outsole on the Cadet is significantly thinner than on the Captain (especially on the toplift).
Hi, thanks for watching and leaving a comment!! Really?? Because on the website it says that the cadet is also good year welted, at least for the tobacco color. I wonder if other colors are differently stitched 🤔
The cadet is Goodyear welted. I have two pairs of cadets and they’re both GYW. The cadets definitely have a thinner sole than the captains for sure. And I think it also has thinner upper leather but that’s not a guarantee
Nice work! I have two pair of Cadets for work and they are awesome. I’m looking for a tougher pair to wear on bad weather days. Logical would be the cadet rough and tough but I’m thinking that stormking outsole on the captain is the way to go for what I’m using them for, especially on slushy days. I have a pair of Iron Rangers I could use but they are hard to dress up and I’m in a business casual environment. The visual of them on really helped me! Thanks
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. Yes the cadets are so nice and versatile, i really like them. Sounds like the captains with storm king outsole do sound like they would be good for the things you want to do. I’m glad this video helped you. Sometimes it’s hard to see what the boots really look like only relying on photos, that’s why I wanted to make this video to help people make a better decision. Be sure to subscribe and like, wools really appreciate it!
I recently bought a pair of cadets and with just a single day of use the tip of the midsole has started to separate, would like to know if you are facing a similar issue on your pair, how is it holding up?
On behalf of all Europeans I am sitting here thinking "wtf" when I hear Americans say that you can wear a smart casual boot to "go hiking". I think you must just mean... walking on the streets. :D
I would look into some Grant Stone boots. They are the next step in the line of higher GYWED boots. They are usually $100-180's more but they are def an upgrade. They are better than Alden in terms of quality and style but at half the price. They are very similar to Alden because the owner's father and grandfather worked for Alden as shoe salesman so many of their boots looks similar to the Alden's like the Ottawa's from GS looks like the Tanker's of the Alden line. I would love to see a review on GS boots!
I am a very big fan of the company and I have the Matt black captains myself and have gotten lots of complements on them. What I don’t get is why ppl say these are hiking shoes? They are not comfortable for long distance walking let alone hiking, and I have added cushioning to the heel myself. I have long distanced walk once and got three blisters! Do not buy these to go hiking lol
Hi how's ur racer jacket been holding up for u? I ordered Anejo racer jacket and wore it for about 1 week and the finish, dye, paint or whatever it is on the surface of the leather is peeling and comimg off already.
Hey, thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. I just saw you video update on your racer jacket and was thinking “that guy in the comment has the same problem” and was about to link you that video to only realize it was you who made the video 😅 I’m so sorry to hear about your racer jacket 😢 my racer jacket is holding up find after 1.5 years of wearing it. I’m wondering maybe it’s because of the color you got and the dyeing process it goes through. The matte black racer jacket is a rugged and resilience leather that they use, so maybe it a a different dye process? Maybe you can ask to switch to a different color. But over all I love my racer jacket, I’m so sad to hear you didn’t have a good experience with Thursday, since I know they make good products. Keep us updated on what Thursday does for you. Sorry for the long comment but Hope this helps haha😊
@@MichaelHsu95 Thank you so much for the reply! Yes it was me doing the video too. This Anejo color is one of the newest they recently added, so maybe they do different process? Thursday told me that it is "not typical" and "not therr standard", so they are admitting the low quality (it came with the quality guarantee card, tho). It was my first time buying any of their products, and it did not go the way I was expecting, so I asked for return & refund instead of exchange. Glad yours is holding up pretty good! I watched your video too beforeing buying the jacket. I hope mine was just one rare occasion where the product lacks quality, and that this is not what Thursday wants to be known for. They have been very sincere and seem to be taking me and my experience seriously, which I appreciate a lot.
I’m wondering if there is a difference in width between the president and the captain. Or if the president breaks in a little more width wise due to its lack of a cap toe
I'd warn that eyelets do wear with time, the color does peel off back to the shiny metal. Also, you don't need "speed hook", if you tie knots on the ends it's much faster and easier to take on and off.
Why do you keep saying "hiking" so much? This worries me. Please don't do any hiking in Thursday boots! They are very nice boots, but they are city boots, not hiking boots! Only type of hiking they are designed to do - is to hike from subway station to the nearest Starbucks😁
Why not? I've hiked in my thursday legends for a year now and they've never let me down. Not all their boots should be hiked in, but if it has that lug sole i see no reason not to.
I suspect we have a VERY different definition of hiking) I would not wear a Chelsea boot to a picnic where I leave, hiking is just unimaginable. I think they may survive it, but it won't be a pleasant experience neither for me, nor for boots.
@@Orangatangerine C'mon man, 50 hrs is a 5 day trip. You would not use a Thursday motorcycle jacket to really ride a motorcycle, neither should you use their boots for heavy duty stuff. As you would never use Allen Edmond's brogues to really walk in a swamp.
@@OKOK-hm2is Comparing Allen Edmonds Dress oxfords for a swamp, and Thursday boots to a hike is non comparable. You can wear Thursday boots to an Appalachian trail and itll be perfectly fine! the Allen Edmonds in a swamp on the other hand... you get my point. Theyre boots, treat them as such.
I wear business clothes 5+ days a week and I have many dress boots/shoes. I have several brands. Allen Edmonds are my go-to, and the best leather. Soft and brake in time is maybe 2 days at most. If you watch any polishing videos, it's always on a pair of Allen Edmonds. It's because they are the best American made brand. Don't waste your money on extreme marking brands like thursday boots. You will never see a polishing video on thursday boots. They are cheap factory boots/shoes..
Thursday Boots are sold online, by way of social media influencers. The space in the market is selling a cheap boot for $200. On par with maybe a Kenneth Cole, or some other department store shoe, which is sold around $100 - $125. Johnston & Murphy, Florsheim, even Stacy Adams, sells Goodyear welted shoes & boots which exceed Thursday quality.

I got captain and cadet. I like the cadet more but i didn't buy another pair of cadet. The problem is that their cadet boots had a very narrow toe box. They also don't offer E width. So i stick with the captains.
Really great quality boots? Thursday is no better or worse than boots from Kohl's and JCPenney. Thursday are right on par with Skechers, Rockport, Dr. Scholl's, and Lugz. Questionable quality leather uppers. Foam and cardboard footbed. Soles which are facsimiles of Vibram & Dainite. A resole would cost more than the price of the boot.

But you can get the President in Tobacco with the normal sole so I am thinking of getting the President in Tobacco.

They're awfully expensive for boots made in China.
