One of the finest renditions of this raga by the great master Pt Ravishankar . This was recorded in the year 1966 by All India Radio , Calcutta.

Ravi was playing very 'nicely' then. Less frantic and more 'ras'.

Not inspiring or touching enough to make lifeless Tansen open his eyes in appreciation of his son Bilaskhan for creating this raga as a mark of sorrow and tribute- as the legend goes

I am guessing you have seen Tansen do that to someone's rendition !

Every music ( classical) aficionados know that's the local legend. A concert goer and collector I have heard RS great recitals at legendary festivals in Calcutta Delhi in 1950/60/70s. Have many 80-90 ' fulll lenghth recitals in my library. This one might have been played by any RS clone like US Mishra( no disrespect to him) one of first des piles of RS.

@@prasenjit1304 If you believe Pandit Bhatkhande, by some accounts not only did "Tansen open his eye" but he sat up on his bier and started laughing like a maniac...Poor Bilas... must have been mortified at the thought of what he had wrought...
