I can't get over your boxes. Dude you have a real talent for this and being so preticulur about how and what your boxes look and sound like, says a lot about you. I want one of your boxes so bad. Please please make blueprints I would love to build one.
You explained both enclosures not only accurately, but simply and concisely. (Moreso than anyone else I've heard) There's so much bad info, inflated specs and misinformed people in car audio, that hearing someone knowledgeable discourse on the subject is refreshing. Nice craftsmanship too, btw.
Cerwin Vega has a ton of horn designs online. They made a bunch for movie theatres while pioneering subwoofers for the first time. They did this for the movie earthquake in the 70s. The theatres back then didn't have subwoofers and Cerwin Vega made thousands of subwoofers with boxes and delivered with those Earthquake films.
Lol this is the exact video you asking for. And 64 likes lmao. He's even telling you how to tune the horn VS schematics of subwoofer sd. I can't believe this comment 😂😂
The man is pure genius, master of his craft and he has the ability to the complex and make it simple to the point anyone can understand clearly. Keep up the good work and I will be contacting you for my truck box.
you do great work been building boxes for 30 years was 17 when i started alot of people dont understand how the right box makes all the difference keep up the good work
I have a 4.7 cube box with 100 sq. inches of port area for a single 12". It was an experiment and worked quite well. Thanks for the explanation. I am planning on a box experiment using the principles of a "loading wall" and kind of a horn too for a more venue/stage show oriented subwoofer box.
You explained this so well, I can tell you know a lot because you dumbed it down and it actually made sense! Most people seem like they are proving they are experts rather than teaching the target audience at the audience's level. Those boxes look great too.... nice smooth corners
Very informative video, thanks for the clear description of the effects of t line vs horn loading. Im building a custom couch with a built in sub and im going to horn load it. Great work bro 👍
You have to be absolutely the Best my G. Never heard it explained like this. I took carpentry in high school just too make boxes for Suzuki Samurai jeeps & Broncos.. you make me wanna get back into the Craft. Peace 73X
I would love to see what this looks like on the inside. I've tried for a few days now to see a similar build to this with no luck. Would really appreciate if you could make more videos on this
First off this is the best channel yet about enclosures I've encountered and delivery of ideas. 💯 Good. I just bought three 12-in stereo integrity SQL 12 s and I'm going with a horn loaded front firing sealed off from trunk enclosure that faces the 3 12s like this if you were looking at them overhead \_/. The chamber they're firing into is MDF on top and bottom of these three enclosures, reinforced. Each sealed in .8 cubic feet for a QTC that's tight and accurate. I was going to go with a front firing sealed off from trunk ported enclosure, with the aero ports ran up through the rear deck loading onto the glass. However,I've always preferred that thump and projection ability with accuracy that the horn produces.
this is the best fucking video explaining the differences in the types of box bc every time i tell someone i have a horn port in my car i have to explain, because its a hatchback without a typical trunk and the sub is reverberating in the open space of the car so i needed the horn port to project the sound over the whole car
this man knows his design criteria, If you build with Baltic Birch (yes more expensive ply) they will not need as much bracing and you will find you can use thinner ply with the same cabinet stiffness. Charge more for a better product. Your explanation is spot on and the language is suitable for most lay people who don't build speakers from scratch. :) Excellent video and boxes. Nice double baffle on the 8" box good job.
Glad I watch this brother in 2021, you have definitively directed me to what design is best for my application.. thanks for your time and imparting your knowledge.
Often double 18s nowadays because you can pack more in a lorry. If you need to drive 2 lorries to get the same output from horn subwoofers, then any efficiency gains are negated by the inefficiencies of 2 trucks vs one. If the venue has a low power supply and the subwoofers can be permanently installed, then you get more out of the horns, and spend less on drivers, though more on cabinet woodwork. Double 18s are good at concentrating bass for space, though Danley Tapped horns are probably doing even better nowadays. I've also found 6th order can gain quite a bit in the upper passband for only being 50% larger than a vented box, and that's without increasing the amp power. I did my birthday party in a village hall and had substantial output from 2 12" subwoofers on 600 watts though only turned up about "40% loudness" which actually gives not 240 watts but just 30, for you need disproportionately more power to get slightly louder, psychologically speaking. By placing them both side by side and facing into a corner at close proximity - far more than I would have had placing one in front of each mid/high stand on the same amplifier. The rig fitted in a Citroen C2 and slammed and got pretty low too.
WOW. Thanks for explaining this in simpleterms. Now I know what to do with my ford ranger early 90s!! Going to build around my TERAMPS 3000 HD 1 OHM. These amps are more than a beast. crazy power in a perfect small space. I think I go 2 12 inch sundowns or 4 8s on one side so I still can maintain a seat in the back and storage room. Thanks again for the explanation MB. B E A Utiful
Thanks man. I learned a lot today and opened my mind to bigger and better builds. I love sq that still can do 50s and 60s on the meter. I want to try doing a horn with the new solo x pro kicker l7x 15" or even 18 if they ever get them out and build a folded horn enclosure in the back of a jeep. Loud, efficient and clean!.
This is really really nice damn bruh so detailed! I always thought the horn was predominantly used for large open spaces, I’ve never seen one mounted in any type of car. Seems like it’s way better and efficient than the ported.
Even thou this video is old today I understand better on contract of horn vs ported. In aspect to folded horn for djing sub setup. Looking at some old school p.A. sonic 18w,cerwin vega, wanted more of a difference between my ported box cerwin vega stroker & a folded horn subwoofer box for dj setup use in venue, block parties, concerts as u just mentioned 👍🏼 ✌🏻👀 👂 🙉
Whats up MB! So what about these different order enclosure? Like when they say 4th order or 5th order? Can you give some insight on these type of enclosures? Man I remember when I first subscribed you only had 100 some subscribers and now look at you! I'm proud to have watched you on your journey and thank you again for helping me! Much love !
Thank you for the video. Question: for HF Mid/Sub Bassbox; 80-250,300 hertz range. Your thoughts on enclosure design in my van. All sizes and shapes welcomed from your experience to hit those frequencies best.
BudgetBassHead did a video that displayed a 5th order enclosure. You made a very useful point about ported boxes controlling woofer excursion using tuning. Would you consider it reasonable to use the port cross section to make a horn based on the port instead of the driver?
Ok question though.. because of the lack of back pressure doesn’t it limit the power handling of the sub? In a simplistic form it’s more like a free air in these terms. I’ve never messed around with horns but it would seem to me that you would want the resonance wall as close to the back of the speakers as possible wo loosing cooling so that you can maintain responsiveness of said speaker on kick drum bass as well adding whatever momentary back pressure you can to keep the speaker from bottoming out.. I’m I correct in this thinking?
No, subs won't act like a free air in a folded horn design. A good way to describe it is a ported box where the ports long and narrows the closer to the woofer it gets. One of the biggest concepts in a folded horn design is that as the air get closer to the speaker in the port. The port size reduces increasing the air velocity, this increase in airspeed and is what makes the speaker efficiency increase. Just like a ported box, folded horns are usually tuned to the subs FS. But they will give you a frequency response more like a sealed box, but louder and more efficient. A good example of a horn design with little input and lots of output is the Tuba.
Question im Trying to setup a System in my chevy spark (small hatch). and am curious to what might be better for Solid SPL levels. Should I Go horn or Ported? Im wanting a single 18", I know it will take up most of the car lol, if i can even get it in there, ill go 15" if not. Unless someone thinks a 15 might be better anyways?
I have 2 10 inch Rockford Fosgate power series what do u suggest type of box for it Its in regular simple box now with small round ports it's not all that yet I have 750 Rockford Fosgate ampl mono on it as well
GREAT information in your video. Your wood working skills seem at par to your knowledge of horn loading. You gained a subscriber. I agree with you on 8's! I'm yet to try 6's though. Your thoughts horn loading?
Don’t know if anyone else has ever had this experience but you saying you prefer larger port areas, I had a 15” sub in a 2”ported box when I was in high school, I was moving so much air through the port that it would at times actually whistle and the smaller the port area the longer it needs to be to tune for lower frequencies
It would be nice to see a graph comparing the two. I use WINISD a lot but I don't recall it having an option for horn loaded woofers. I dont know of any that does? so what is the best type of speaker for a horn loaded woofer? would it be one that also works for an open baffle?
So a horn port for 2/8 will make it sound like a pair of 12s a single 12 a single 15 what would you rate it as soundwise instead of a regular port ? Curious because I have four American Bass vfl 8's and I'm wondering if it'll sound louder or just as loud as 2 15's in a horn box versus a normal ported box
Because these enclosures are equivalent in size, I'm not sure how much more efficient the horn will be for these examples. The horn may skew its efficiency towards the upper bass, and of course some enclosures get closer to the Hoffman - Iron ideal than others. The horn will usually trade compactness for efficiency, as it takes a lot of space to fit that expanding port, particularly when you get to mouth sizes beyond a meter squared to properly support the lowest notes at high efficiency. In smaller "horns" you end up with a flared port or bass pipe design, which might have a wider bandwidth and has some advantages of each type. Usually in a given size constraint, the ported will play louder on the lowest notes. The advantage of a horn is being able to gain efficiency over a broader range, whereas if you simply make a ported box larger, it will become a 1 note wonder unless you install a more efficient speaker.
If the ported enclosure gets higher meter results, at what point would a ported pass the horn enclosure in spl? Can you still feed a sub max rms wattage in a horn?
Is it possible to do a horn enclosure with 6.5 ct sounds meso and is a horn enclosure good truck builds since there isn't much area for the sound to bounce off of?
Can I use my pair of sundown x15 for a horn enclosure if so how big would the box be. Putting it in a Chevy express conversation van I have already remove third row seat
One of the best explanations I've heard on the diff's between horn loaded enclosure and ported bass reflex enclosure.
I salute you sir!
I can't get over your boxes. Dude you have a real talent for this and being so preticulur about how and what your boxes look and sound like, says a lot about you. I want one of your boxes so bad. Please please make blueprints I would love to build one.
Preticulur 🤣
Can we get a demo of the horn enclosure?
It's way too small to produce bass, so no :)
You explained both enclosures not only accurately, but simply and concisely. (Moreso than anyone else I've heard)
There's so much bad info, inflated specs and misinformed people in car audio, that hearing someone knowledgeable discourse on the subject is refreshing. Nice craftsmanship too, btw.
So much false info though. While the principles may be correct, the horn needs to be physically much larger and thats by laws of physics.
Could you make a video about designing a horn enclosure and hints for the build. Thanks a lot, my compliments for your Channel
That u not going and see
Lol

Wish I knew that much about Soundwaves and box building. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Now that explains dem horns, thanks mang, great explanation! 🙌🏾
I came up with a design for a horn enclosure just to see if I could do it and I love the fact that it plays windows and all down the same as up
Last year I attempted to build a horned enclosure for 2 sdr 10’s, and I was amazed by the output. Hands down the loudest set of 10s I’ve ever heard.
How did u calculate the box design after u modeled it
I spoke with you yesterday. I can't wait to try this

Great channel. I really like your content and knowledge level. Future customer.
New viewer. You really explain things well. Very nice !!

Best explanation yet best.
Brotha, if I had the space I may have went with the horn for my box. Another great vid. Keep it going!
My dude if I could buy a horn enclosure box from you that would be dope your knowledge is precious. Love from the HI, Oahu G 🤙🏽
I’m so glad you remembered everything i taught you Myron bruh lol. Proud of you homie.
Brother. Deffinantly dont keep it simple. Knowledge is power!
Great explanation. Needed this. Thank you 🙏🏾
what this means horn type has wider freq. bandwidth in tuning..? This is one of the best explaination, really love it
I found this to be very useful and informative I appreciate your content and keep crashing it brother💪🏾Maryland showing ❤️
How do you decide if the woofer is good for a horn enclosure?
Easiest way to say it is: Dont use cheap, mass produced, or low end speakers. We're one of the few companies that build speakers FOR horns and Tlines.
Look for the beyma 15G450N. His Parameter are the optimum for hornenclosure
Great information like always.👍
Great Explaination. Thank you.
Boss channel and great information
Best vid youve made. Awesome job
Back in the day there is what they call it the Klipsch horn I had one for a little while it was really old pretty amazing too
Design elements and internal shape?
Thank you for your time and knowledge.

amazing and super well explained
Which do you like better?
Great video your knowledge and ability to articulate are top notch could you make a detailed video about SPL it would be greatly appreciated thank you
Thank you for the video. Question: for HF Mid/Sub Bassbox; 80-250,300 hertz range. Your thoughts on enclosure design in my van. All sizes and shapes welcomed from your experience to hit those frequencies best.
thx for explaining the horn, I'd actually prefer a horn or tapped horn enclosure over a 2nd or 4th order reflex for SQ.
BudgetBassHead did a video that displayed a 5th order enclosure. You made a very useful point about ported boxes controlling woofer excursion using tuning. Would you consider it reasonable to use the port cross section to make a horn based on the port instead of the driver?
This is the same science applied to the old line of Klipsch home audio speakers. A lot of people run systems on literally a few watts.
Ok question though.. because of the lack of back pressure doesn’t it limit the power handling of the sub? In a simplistic form it’s more like a free air in these terms. Can you make a video with this old but good subwoofer. 8 " Power acoustic reaper
So is the chamber behind the sub hole sealed and then fires into the folded horn walls on this design?
Which is best for an mid size SUV?
Interesting information 🤔. Thanks heaps and cheers from Australia! Subbed and liked 👍
Question

Good infi Mann, never saw a video describing it in real talk!!!
Can you build horn enclosures for underseat builds for trucks???
Thanks for the info man! Could you show us a vid of the horn in action ?
What program or calculations do you use to design your horn enclosures?
You got the gift bruh👍🏾
Nice job. I'd like a horn box for two Meso 8s.
I have 2 10 inch Rockford Fosgate power series what do u suggest type of box for it Its in regular simple box now with small round ports it's not all that yet I have 750 Rockford Fosgate ampl mono on it as well

MBE, does a horn load off the back of a (suv) the same as any other enclosure? And, what is bigger, a horn or 6th order enclosure?
How can i calculate the tunning for a horn enclosure i might want to do it for my DD715 cause i use it as my home audio sub
Whats the overal length of the dual 8inch horn enclosure
34L 16.5W 10.5H
Can you do a sealed box as well as a push/pull (Isobaric) box? Thank you!
So for a Ford F-150 super crew, dual 8 inch setup, a horn enclosure would be best? Or rear facing port?
It would be nice to see a graph comparing the two. I use WINISD a lot but I don't recall it having an option for horn loaded woofers. I dont know of any that does? so what is the best type of speaker for a horn loaded woofer? would it be one that also works for an open baffle?
Does the horn need to be the right length to be set on the quarter wave length?
So a horn port for 2/8 will make it sound like a pair of 12s a single 12 a single 15 what would you rate it as soundwise instead of a regular port ? How to build a Horn Enclosure for a Kicker L7 15” sub ?
If the ported enclosure gets higher meter results, at what point would a ported pass the horn enclosure in spl?
Can you still feed a sub max rms wattage in a horn?
When would u recommend to use a horn enclosure?
I learnt a lot. Thanks
Is it possible to do a horn enclosure with 6.5 ct sounds meso and is a horn enclosure good truck builds since there isn't much area for the sound to bounce off of?
What box do u suggest for bed of a buggy im running 2 kicker cvr 12s
Will a horn enclosure with 2 8 inch subs hit the lows that you like M.B.?
Hi bro love ur videos
Keep it up
Is there still no horn enclosures graphed like in winisd?
I have a question, How do you get rid of those annoying resonances from a horn enclosure?
Let's see some freq graphs and spl measurements on these. thx MB
Man this dude knows his s*** about speaker boxes
Can I use my pair of sundown x15 for a horn enclosure if so how big would the box be.
Putting it in a Chevy express conversation van I have already remove third row seat
