I switched to a 165Hz 34" monitor from a 10 year old 60Hz 27" monitor just before christmas and the difference for me was night & day! But then I wasn't just increasing the framerate, I also increase size and resolution (1080p to 1440p) so it should look a lot better! I don't think it's made me any better in competetive games though, I still suck xD

I have 2 monitors side by side: 144Hz main monitor and a 75Hz secoundary monitor running at 60Hz due to HDMI to VGA converter limits.
I just now realised my main monitor's refresh rate has been changed from 144Hz to 59.9Hz and if it wasn't for this video I still wouldn't have known.
I just didn't notice the difference probably because I wasn't thinking about it.

Once you go high refresh rate, you'll never go back lol. I recently went to a curved Asus 1440p 165Hz w/Freesync 32" and and it's just... lovely.

It's not that hard to go back actually. Just need to get used to it, can take half an hour or so. If older panel response time is fast enough, you just have to make it through two things - "choppy mouse" and "bulge inward" feelings lol. You will still feel the difference between 60fps vs 200fps in any fast game, lowering resolution kinda helps your GPU there also.
For me the biggest difference was VA crazy colours (after TN) and amount of workspace due to resolution. High refresh is nice and all, but it seems to me that fast response+(HI FPS) is more important than refresh itself. Hi refresh does help aiming tho, that is for sure.

I remember my first time experiencing a high refresh rate monitor. I gamed on a 24in. 1920x1200 60hz panel for years. I switched to a 144hz 23in 1080p panel and it was night and day. The smoothness and fluidity on the 144hz panel as opposed to the 60hz panel was unreal. I thought my game was smooth before on the 60hz. I didn't know what smooth was. Kind of like console gamers who were stuck with 30fps on PS3 or XBOX 360 finally experiencing 60fps mode on PS4 and XBOX One.

For me, the initial hit was quite big, bit eventually I got used to it and realized that it did not make such difference at all, of course, it is still amazing to have a high refresh rate experience, but it is not THAT great.

@@ruuriiiiiii I mean, going from 60hz to 144hz was good and all, but I cannot say as if my performance in gaming had changed much, if it had, it seems that I played better in a shitty 60hz display.

@@ruuriiiiiii I recommend still getting the monitor, even if it doesn't improve your gameplay much, it makes it *easier* to improve and also takes strain off of your eyes because the frames are less choppy, the input is faster and the visual clarity is better

How for so long ? Why not upgrade earlier ? Your upgrade needs to be 1440p with 165 hz u will see thr difference in spotting people is soon much easier there's no way I would go back to 1080p

I think you'll definitely enjoy the fluidity of the high refresh rate monitor for quite a bit. But if you're having a hard time hitting your shots and winning games with your current monitor, I personally don't think a faster panel is going to make a massive difference. I used to play CS:GO quite a bit back in the day and even with my previous monitor and 100-150 frames that my PC was able to output, I had moments when I myself was surprised by what I can do, not to mention other players that would think that I'm cheating. I believe if you try hard enough, you can play about as good as you would with a 165 Hz panel.

I'm crap in PUBG still after ~1500 hours, but I've very recently started to want a 144 Hz display to replace the 60 Hz one. Mine is Lenovo 24" 1440p which I've had for maybe 5 years. I want a 24" QHD 144 Hz one, but there isn't many to choose from in the used market. AOC AG241QX being about the only option and the one I want.

I believe I also have about 1400+ hours in PUBG, most of which were spent with the old monitor and setup that could barely go beyond 100 FPS. I'll admit I also wasted tons of hours before I started playing better, though even with the old setup I had plenty of great matches.
Hopefully you will have more fun with the new monitor!

Now since this topic is extremely subjective i might as well put my thoughts here too. First of all i strongly agree with your conclusion of 140hz+ vs 60hz, it IS without a doubt, a better experience, but it wont make you a pro player by any means, vice versa, if you are very good player you WILL perform very well on 60hz monitor. Im very familiar with competitive environment and mentality of it as i played csgo for 5+ years and i have around 5000 hours clocked into it.
I used 144hz TN panel for about 5 years and i did rather a "controversial" move by changing to 60hz 4k panel. Now the primary reason for that is that i dont play competitive games anymore and im not planning to start again. My monitor was benq xl2411z which was one of those earlier high refresh panels which had TERRIBLE color accuracy and obviously really poor PPI density as 1080p on 24inch is just not good especially in todays standards. So for some time i was really unhappy with it and decided upgrade to 32inch 4k VA 10bit panel.
Before that i was kinda worried about getting back to 60hz i even tried my dad's monitor just to be sure if i could get used to it and once i got my monitor, oh boy its an amazing experience. Panel response time is very respectable and i got used to 60hz very fast, like in hour of use it felt completely normal. The biggest factor was resolution, PPI and its size, the moment i turned it on first time i said out loud "holy s#it". Another very subjective "advantage" if you can call that, i no longer need to care about hitting high refresh in single player games to maximize my panel RR. I just plonk to max settings and dont worry about it. Even when i get into csgo for few days or sessions i still have no issues hitting good shots and owning newbs :P High refresh can make a difference in those super fast reaction shots, like holding an angle in csgo with awp which is only few pixels wide, or doing those "nutty" 180 one taps, but for the most part i feel like i can perform at ~90-95% of my potential, its really not a big deal, BUT its nice.
My next upgrade is most likely going to be oled 120hz but mostly not for RR but for OLED tech, but its not going to happen anytime soon, im super happy with my 4k 60hz monitor for foreseeable future ^^

Whatever you can afford. If you also have a good graphics card and the rest of your components are also decent, you can even get a 120 Hz monitor or better.
