  • this is something new to me but has been talked about alot recently on the sloppy public page and has been used with success forever with subaru guys and others. i show how to decap the stock injectors and i will be sending mine out to get flowed and tested for fun to test how this works out, then install them in a vehicle and tune with them to see how far they'll go, since these are nearly free and will support a good amount of power at 60-80lbs reported flow
    *UPDATE RESULTS VIDEO*

    Shoot, I may never build an LS, but the homebrewed engineering and problem solving like this is why I follow the channel. That, and wicked Fairmonts...

    I'm sure it's already been said, but the MCM guys flow tested their decapped injectors with a measuring cup to just get a rough idea. Be neat to see a rough home measurement compared to a "professional" measurement as well.

    For your top 25 questions, here are a couple I'll throw in the hat:
    1) how uniform were the flows between them (pre and post cleaning, if the guy measured them before)
    2) Where do you suggest to send a set for similar cleaning and flow testing?

    I decapped a couple injectors from my '97 explorer 5.0 (bosch 0 280 155 710) and tried to flow test them with the injector pulser in the microsquirt.
    Without the plate with the holes in it they didn't buzz or flow any more. Dunno what's up with that, did a few of them to try and get one to work but none of them would work.
    try and get them to buzz before you spend money sending them out

    I did this with some light blue Subaru 440cc injectors. It supposedly makes the 440's flow the equivalent of a 740cc with the cap removed. I used a Dremel with a cut off wheel. You have to be really precise. I ruined the first one, oops, but luckily had spares. If I do it again, I might try the carbide bit method instead.

    What are the thoughts on decapping 2001 LS1 injectors

  • @UnTamedMustang
    @UnTamedMustang 6 років тому +2

    Have you tried removing the MAF and the o2 sensors? Now THAT will give you more fuel. Just be sure to feather the throttle so it doesn't stall on you. and forget about fuel economy. But at least with decapping you dont have to worry about the stalling issue.
    I'd rather remove the MAF and front o2s because they can always be plugged back in.

  • @MrBombzzz
    @MrBombzzz 8 років тому +3

    Is it simply possible that most injector manufacturers just make a couple of injectors and change the caps during final assembly to get a bigger range of flow ratings?

      Who knows lol

    • @El_Chompo
      @El_Chompo 8 років тому +2

      That's what I'm thinking. Same way I bridged the L2 cache on my AMD3000+ back in the day to unlock the multiplier. They set the multiplier at the factory to get the speed and once it's unlocked you can change the speed up to the top of the range in that class of processor. And I think you could do the same on a Pentium using just a pencil to draw a lead between two contacts.

    Could you just take a jewelers drill and carefully open up the hole in the cap to the desired size? After all that's what they use to do to carburetor jets was to drill them to size.

    what about removing the inlet screens as well? I've seen some of the "big name" injectors with no screens. i would imagine this increases flow as well.(especially with a high mileage injector) maybe you could send them out to be flow tested to varify? its pretty cheap.

      +Sergio Ramses if you have no information on it you have to send it to somebody with the flow bench and they can flow it and measure how much and what size it is

  • @jsrmotorsports9071
    @jsrmotorsports9071 8 років тому

    You could use mega squirt in test mode to test their flow couldnt you? Just make up a fuel rail for 1 inj and have the injector squirt into a measured container for a set amount of time

    • @SloppyMechanics
      @SloppyMechanics  8 років тому +1

      eh, i could but people could argue home testing vs a pro bench with static and dynamic tests

    • @jsrmotorsports9071

      +Sloppy Mechanics i can see that.. but it would get you pretty close anyway and it doesn't cost anything other than buying a $8 plastic graduated cylinder.. im not sure what it costs to have inj flowed by a pro but its an option anyway to save a few bucks

    About what size are those injectors out of Jaime's truck? Think they'd be much larger than a 2001 5.3 injector? I was just wondering the other day why no one does this with stock LS injectors, and if it would be worth just de-capping some old stockers i have laying around.
