As usual, very informative. Keep in mind also, when you are describing your ideal lighting situation, with natural light, that natural light can be very strong even on a cloudy day, but a piece of lg. white cardboard mounted just out of camera range on the opposite side can provide "bounce" lighting for fill purposes; that helps resolve ( or "fill") the stark shadows that may result. It also looks as though the window you are seated next to is shaded, or translucent, rather than transparent, which is also very useful for diffusing strong natural light.
Thanks for the tips. I think I'll need to look into the horizontal arm for the tripod. A few people have suggested I start a UA-cam channel for my drawings but I don't feel the need to record any audio of me speaking. I'll probably just film my drawing and add some royalty-free music. I don't need to be a "UA-cam celebrity" I just want to share my drawing process.
that's fine. Lot of people don't talk. Some do ASMR type noises of drawing, Those don't bother me. Some put text on the screen instead of talking. Or put in description or a comment
Frame rate only matters if there is ARTIFICIAL light source in your video. The light source can be from a tablet display, phone display, phone torch, from ceiling lights, wall lights.
that info about fps vs electric power frequency... that is gold. i was able to eliminate the artificial light flickering by just switching to 25p (italy). thanks Teoh, you made my day
Great video! Most people that make videos like this don't tell everything that's included. So thank you for THAT! I had no idea there was something called a horizontal tripod. 🤗
You don't need expensive items yall! I got a ring light at Walmart for 25$ with a movable arm for your phone, I'm using a 10$ desk and just pencils! Just get started that's all that matters !
I'm using clamp, so true! When I'm doing something it keeps on shaking... when I tap start button for video it's shaking... I need that mic, I usually don't talk or do voice over on my videos. I like your setting! I only use my phone in editing, don't know how to edit on my computer but I will try to learn soon... Thank you! Your video is very helpful 💙 Btw, I'm one of your loyal subscriber for 2 years..😊

Teoh, I just came upon this and really enjoyed it. I don’t usually watch the ones about technology, but I’ve done a few videos using my phone. This was so helpful. Thank you, hope all is good with your family. 🌴Tallahassee, Florida
Thank you Teoh, you’ve solved a huge problem for me - flickering! I’ve downloaded Moment onto my iPhone, altered the settings and hey presto the issues I’ve been having have disappeared 😊 Thank you xXx
Thanks. You're the best. I'm slowly starting to understand this stuff. With the pandemic I had to move my classes online although I don't love the process.
Thanks so much for the simple tutorial on phone recording and introducing simple equipments to do the job. I really really need that. I been watching so many videos and I am still blurring over it. I am gonna try it. Thank again and looking forward to your next video.
Thank you so much for this basic behind the scenes look. It makes me all that much more impressed at your ability to LiveStream WITH your daughter in the room and drawing and painting and responding to comments. Wow. Do you know what method is used to zoom in during a video? I've seen videos where a person will zoom in to their face maybe if they are making a funny face, or to their art. I'm not sure if they do that while filming, or if it is an editing thing added later?
You may need some software to do the zoom in, or to show multiple views such as showing the drawing with your moving face at the corner. You certainly need more than one camera
I am a recently new subscriber! Watch all your video's on how to urban sketching. You helped me so much with my drawing skills! You explain it realy well! This video is also realy helpful! Thank you so much! 😊
Wow! Just wow! Thank you. This video was extremely helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to make this and how to make these and what goes on behind the scenes.
Very informative and helpful I would probably try those set up on my next video. I was struggling on finding which is the best and easy editor app for windows 10. All my videos shoot and edited in my iPhone iMovie.
Too late. I just bought a clamp... lol! Good thing it was cheap. It's so hard to get a good angle while using it. I'll invest in a tripod soon. :) Thanks for sharing this video!
Very clear instruction and demonstration on the equipments ant tips in video recording tips.. I hope i can also buy those for me. This will hepl me a lot on my future vlogs. Thanks for sharing.
This video is so informative. After years of watching you tubers, ig’ers, vloggers etc I’m finally curious about filming and tips with the iPhone! I never knew! Do you have a simple video how to edit your videos on iPhone 11 Pro specifically or a video explaining FPS? Thank you! P.S in two days I’ve watched about a dozen vids and I keep coming back to this one. I’ve purchase my starter stuff to film art vids. Thank you again for great vids
It's kinda difficult to edit videos on such a small phone screen. I use iMovie for simple edits. There's Lumafusion on iPhone and iPad with many more features for editing video. But I highly recommend using a computer instead. Da Vinci Resolve is a video editing software that is free. The version is that's one version older than the current one they sell is always free, and has enough features to edit a good video.
Thank you for this one. I have often wondered how you put your videos together. I guess my Super 8 movie camera with boom mike just isn’t going to cut it.
Do you by chance have a link to these products ? Thanks so much for making this ! I’ve been so stumped with recording my art with a tripod. Couldn’t find one that I could bend downward. Now I know what I need!
I do find that an awkward setup to be honest. Instable and it's in the way and you always get your work under an angle, never really straight. I'm using a similar setup with the overhead rail as Ian Barnard uses here, ua-cam.com/video/Nxr4PcNXKQc/v-deo.html The only thing I changed was using a thinner 15mm rail and different clamps on the tripods for that rail. I'm also using a clamp with ball head so I can turn my camera however I want. For less than $60 I've got a very sturdy, stable setup. Works with a phone, but a much more heavy camera too.
Thank you. I was looking for affordable ways people with impaired vision could use a phone or tablet as a video magnifier. This could work for my project.
Hi Teoh! I was disturbed by a call... I didn't notice if you spoke about the distant remote control. I think even that I saw the whole video and it is very helpful because someone asked me to make videos when I will do sewing works. I think I would have to record in mute 🔕 mode because of the machine noise, then to record my voice when it would be time to edit the video. Thanks for sharing.
I am really glad in the beginning that you showed us what equipment we should use, the most valuable piece of information was that you said we needed to make sure we had a phone to record on. Thank you, you have saved me a lot of time and possible confusion for when I set up my "record art videos with my phone" . Life saver
Thank you for this very helpful video. I found it insightful. I shot with natural light and always went with 60fps but I will stick with 30fps now. And I will remove that auto focus
Thank you so much for this informative and complete video! I’ve been wanting to start recording videos but didn’t know where to start! I already own a Manfrotto tripod so I will only need to purchase a clamp! Been wondering if I should use a small table tripod or a big one because I also want to record Reels on Instagram and have a versatile setup! I have the answer to my question now!
Tabletop tripod is not easy to use because it’s very short and usage is limited. Main advantage is portability. A full height tripod can be used for anything.
Thank you so much. I’ve always wanted to record my process, but I don’t have a lot of money for a camera. This is so helpful!
