Erraid - my little piece of heaven on a wild Hebridean Island

  • I was lucky enough to spend nine years living and working as part of the Findhorn Foundation on the tiny jewel of a tidal island just off the tip of Mull.
Living on the Isle of Erraid was both beautiful and challenging as our small community of about 8 people, stretched ourselves to handle everything that was needed to repair and restore that which was worn and bring in new that which was needed.
I loved every single moment of every single day and even all these 12 years later, there is not a week goes by when I don't think of this incredible place and the wonderful people I lived there with. Here's a few pics of everyday life, they are not touched up, or set up but rather are just quick snapshot of what was happening in the moment.
If you are at that point in your life when you may want a 'great adventure' give them a call. erraid@live.co.uk :) Paul

Isn't it amazing that something so simple, can be so healing and nurturing.

Thank you - I felt that way about living there but it wasn't always easy. :)

Nicely made video... From my visits years ago, glad to see how life continues. Did you consider including info about how to make contact... in case people want to see for themselves? I leave it to you--as maybe this was purposeful :)

Two questions! Why did you leave? How did you realise it was time to leave?

Leaving was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Debs and I knew it was time to leave when our son Josh was 7 years old as if we had stayed any longer, he would have had to go to the boarding school at Oban 5 days a week and we would have only seen him on weekends. It was never our intention to have a child and only be able to enjoy their company a couple of days a week. So we 'tuned in' during our meditation and were clearly told, 'your work here is done, time to move on'. That was good enough for us so we let the family know we would be leaving in 6 months and started the process of letting go of this incredible place, incredible people and simply unbeatable lifestyle.
