The halo effect
I just dreamed about this song while I was sleeping. I broke up with my girlfriend because I didn't want to get married. We had a very emotional and painful argument where we even exchanged death threats. In my dream, the lyrics "Let me in, I'll bury the pain" kept repeating and I was tearing up. So I came here to listen to this song as soon as I woke up.

I've been listening to this song for probably 5,6,7 years now and i never thought about the meaning of the song that much.
Guys do you have any theories what this song is really about ?
Is it about depression and suicidal thoughts, is he talking to himself in the mirror the whole song, is it like a fight between happiness and sadness in our lives.
Or is it someone killing themselves mentally trying to help someone in need and changing from the good person which they used to be to a person they were trying to save.
''Let me in, I'll bury the pain'' to me sounds like someone is trying to help someone else (lets say a friend), he might be trying too hard, or the other person isn't thankful for the help and that where I think ''You taught me to be sad as you. You almost made me take it all.'' is the point when the person trying to help is getting depressed, maybe even suicidal .
''You bend me and you shake me. You beg me than you break me.'' Bending and shaking that doesn't sound good, probably violence, ''You beg me then you break me'' His friend is begging him that he needs his help and then breaks him mentally .
Or maybe the whole song is about drug addiction ''Let me in, I'll bury the pain'' is the drugs talking, it will be easier after something that will numb the pain. ''The sickness that you are. The plague that made me starve.'' could also be him knowing that the drug is a sickness, but he can't help himself.
''You bend me and you shake me. You beg me then you break me.'' drug has done so much bad in his life and I think that everything repeats so many times in a song like it's a circle, only thing that doesn't repeat is ''I feel it's taking over
everything falls dark break me open desperate cry'' that part is also where the music changes, even it is a pretty chill song drums in that part make the song sound pretty tense, real, dark, like he has a sober moment of reality after which it goes back to melody that is playing most of the song after probably taking the drugs to bury the pain. Hope someone will read this and give me some opinions. I've probably listened to the song 10+ times while writing this, 10/10 would do it again !!!
I was thinking while writing and I really thinking this song is a perspective of a drug addict who ruined his life with drugs, there may have been something or someone in his life after which he started doing drugs. ''You made me fell like a sinner, You fear you'll die alone'' are the lyrics that confuse me, is he talking to himself or ?
I relate to this song by having to deal with a narcissistic parent for my whole life. They make you feel guilty for trying to live a better life than they’re living.

If you are old enough to work and move out please do, do something to make your life better or at least little less miserable . If you are still in school, collage do your best, study a lot so you can move out first chance you have and start your own lifte. I don't know your situation, but if it's that bad try your best to make it better and please don't kill anyone.
@@petar470 thank you so much for the reply. I am doing good. By the time I figured out what she was, I was already moved out of the house and living with my now wife. I’m a supervisor at a railroad and she’s a supervisor at her job and we have two kids. We’re doing good with next to no contact from her since I have her blocked on pretty much everything. But she’ll eventually try and get back ahold me at some point like she always has in the past but I’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. I still speak to my dad regularly but he lives in a different state. Not even he could stand her lol.
