    Hi Joel I'm having a problem may be you can help me with, your video on how to personalize and customize the icons of folders and hard drives was great, I just got a new laptop when I connect my hard drive to my laptop, i'm not able to see the photo that I created for each folder, but when i connect to my desktop I able to see the photo.

    Great video! Super cool feature I didn’t know was an option! After you alter the icon to the image of your choosing, do you need to keep the original source image (the one you saved to your desktop in the first place) in order for the icon to stay to what you changed it to or can you delete it so as to not clutter your computer with random image files?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому

      I love when I learn little tweaks like this too @UCFDisneyMan!
      You can get rid of the original image and the image should still stay that associated to the folder or hard drive.
      I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! It helps more than you know and is greatly appreciated! If you know someone who may benefit from this video, feel free to share it along!

    As always another banger video. thanks man for all you do! Joel one single question, in the finder i have icloud and i use it alot. i dragged the icloud documents folder onto my dock and it works it makes it easy for me to get to my icloud. is it safe if i change the icloud folder on my dock to someting else or leave it as it is since its an icloud folder. I can’t see the icloud folder changing design across devices but i don’t know please let me know thank you.

      Ah, you're very welcome @RazorBackRoar! Thanks for the continued support! I'm happy people are viewing and finding my content useful and informative.
      I have actually changed some of those folder myself. I was hoping too that they sync the icon across multiple devices, but I haven't seen that happen yet. I see no harm in doing it. You can for sure drag folders to the right side of the Dock. It's designed to do that, so you're good there.

      @Learnwithjoel  Рік тому

      Hi @Tariq Al-ghunaman!
      That would be cool if iCloud did replicate the changes of folders to iCloud on iPhone and iPad, but it does not. I have a handful of custom folders on my Mac, but it does not reflect on iOS devices.

    Hello! I have a question related to Photos. On my Mac, the Library Location is my external drive since the library is too large to sit on the Mac’s SSD. Question is - can you still make this library the ‘System Photo Library’ even though it is external ? Thanks!!

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому +1

      Hi @Patricia Adams!
      So yes, if your Photo Library lives on an external hard drive, you can make it your System Photo Library. However, before you turn do that, remember you can only have ONE system library within your Mac User account, as only one Apple Photo Library can sync to iCloud Photos and the system library is the one that does it.
      I'll link a few of my other videos that are exactly related to this question below:

    Is there a way to just change the color of the folder?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому +1

      Great question @ffmedic1638!
      Let's say that you don't have any special photo editing software...
      If you wanted to change the color of a folder, first get "the info" on any regular blue folder and follow the steps to click on it and copy it. Then open it in Preview and save/export as you typically would as a .PNG file.
      Then assuming you have no special software, with that file opened in Preview, click on "Tools" in the top Menu Bar and go to "Adjust Color"
      From here you will have a little panel of editing tools that will allow you to "edit" the folder picture. If you play around the the Temperature, Tint, Sepia and Saturation sliders, you can change the color of the original blue folder.
      This actually would work with any image that is opened up in Preview.
      Thank you for the continued support! I hope this helps!

    How can I create folder not in Desktop or Documents? I want to copy files from external hard drive to folder on iMac..

  • @jorgeofc
    @jorgeofc 2 роки тому +1

    Nice! Can you delete the image icon, in case you need to? Like reset to original folder one or so?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому +1

      Hey @Jorge Feliciano!
      There's not really an option to undo or revert a image used for an icon...You would have to create a new folder and then copy that image to use on on the previous if that makes sense. This process is more out of the box approach where it's not really documented as a feature of the software.
      I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! If you haven’t already, please support me by subscribing! It helps more than you know and is greatly appreciated! If you know someone who may benefit from this video, feel free to share it along!

    when I press delete after using instant alpha I don't get the option of convert the document to PNG...

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому +1

      Hey @Neal! My first guess would be that the file itself is already a .PNG file. You could still pull an image from the internet or really anywhere, and have it be a .png file with a solid color background and it may just not have the alpha channel.
      Or it could have the alpha channel already, but there's still a background. I hope that makes sense!

      @@Learnwithjoel Thank you for the reply. I think I've worked out where I was going wrong Joel. I was trying to apply the changes to an external HD icon which although changed it, left a white background. When I applied the same changes to a new folder icon, boom clear background! Also you are correct the files I was using were PNG's. I am already a subscriber to your fantastic channel, keep up the good work buddy and a happy new year🥂🎉👍🏽
