  • Fix this creak in less than an hour. Just use an 18mm socket to remove the front stabilizer bolt, swing the stabilizer down, and grease the metal. Then bolt it back and voila--no more creak.
    Update:
So after I fixed this creak in the rear, I could hear creaking in the front. This new creak happened when I applied the brakes hard, regardless if the car was moving or even in gear. After removing a front tire and having my wife push on the pedal, I traced the creak to the caliper internal. What I figure was going on was that the outermost part of the cylinder lacked lubrication and that resulted in a stick-slip noise. A quick fix was to remove the caliper and compress the piston back into the cylinder using my big channel locks. A c-clamp works fine too. I cycled the piston in and out a few times hoping that would get some oil on the outer end of the piston. Sure enough, after reinstalling, the creak is gone--at least for now.

This fixed it! My ‘08 Bullitt had such a bad creak when starting in 1st gear and a squeak when lightly accelerating in higher gears at low rpm, and now it’s completely gone! Idk how long the grease is gonna last but at least I know where the sound was coming from. If you do this yourself keep in mind that after you back out the bolt the control arm is not gonna reach the bolt hole without some prying. I pried from the back using a screw driver after taking the retaining nut out of the way. Good luck to all who try

Good to know. I just bought an 08 Bullitt, And it's driving me crazy trying to find the squeak

Thank you!!! My god. I've been trying to pinpoint the noise on my Bullitt for a while. I originally thought bumps were causing the problem. It seems it is being caused by axial force that's pulling/pushing on the trailing arm bushing when accelerating. Thanks for the vid.

Yes, the bar moves horizontally with respect to the mount point when you accelerate or brake.

jeff, thank you so much for posting this video. I also have a 2008 mustang gt with the same problems. rear suspension squeak and front brakes make a creaking noise. I used your recommendations and both worked !! You saved me a lot of time and effort trying to figure out the causes of these noises. thanks again.....

A more permanent fix is to remove the bar, push the bushing all the way in, and weld a couple or straps across to hold the bushing in place. The straps should be parallel to the bar and spaced at least 1/8 in from the spindle, to keep from rubbing.

My nylon washers wore out, so I did something more permanent. The strut walks across the bushing until it rubs on the mount. The permanent fix is to remove the strut, reverse the bushing in the strut, and then weld a piece of sheet steel on the strut to prevent the bushing from sliding thru.
