I think Meg was being sarcastic and Liz just didn't get her humor. I mean, it wasn't a secret that neither Meg Ryan nor John Cusack provided the singing voices for their respective characters. Fox released behind-the-scenes footage/interviews prior to the film's release. Not to mention, the performers were clearly listed on the soundtrack CD liner notes.
She is 61 years old now and she did a great voice acting of Anastasia from the movie over the past 25 years
