She said it was always a bit scary at the end when you hear the hound coming for you -- no matter how high up in the tree you may have climbed...
My mom had a Bloodhound named Claude. He was a drool factory. And a fart factory. And didn't mind being used as a pillow, which came with its own risks. I know! My current fur baby is a chiweenie. Before Finn, we had two doxies and I adopted Finn because he had a similar " ear flap" noise to wake me up every morning at 6 to go out to potty. Good boys, all of them.
Good job describing the bloodhound. I have had hounds my entire life. I spent years doing missing person's search and rescue along with criminal search and rescue. I lost my last bloodhound in July. Your video made me smile. I've also been grooming dogs for almost 20 yrs. Being a groomer and having bloodhounds, I went on a mission to find a good shampoo that kept them smelling nice for longer than a couple days after a bath. At one point we had 5 bloodhounds and a lab. So I had plenty of test subjects. Final results.....Ultimate Unleashed 65:1 shampoo by groomers edge works the best and keeps hounds smelling good for 2 to 3 weeks depending on their activity. My non working hound was good for 3 weeks. Working boys, usually 2 weeks. The key is not diluting the 65:1, but about a 16:1 instead. Making sure to scrub like crazy on the neck, the flap that is there the ears and up under the ears and sides of face very very good. That holds all the smell. And making sure its 100% dry afterwards. Then if you get a rubber brush, I'm sure you probably already have one. Use the rubber brush before bathing to get out loose hair, then scrub good with it in the bath, then after using your hv dryer, use rubber brush again. It doesn't damage the coat like the bladed tool you used. And you will be shocked at the amount of hair you will get off a slick haired dog. I had an old groomer tell me that years ago and I didn't try it because I honestly didn't believe it would work. I mean thinking about a rubber brush I think it was ridiculous. Then I got one with my scissor of the month club a couple years ago, and decided to try it. I was amazed! I now have bought several for my bathers and use one at my table as well. Thanks again for doing justice to the breed. Most don't realize they aren't like the lazy Bevery Hillbillies dog. They are literally very high drive working dogs. My very first one who was a search dog VS the pets from my past, had a very successful SAR career with multiple finds.
Wow, you put so much work into this, and clearly for a reason! Out of curiosity, does retaining a scent from a good shampoo and grooming like what you described for 2-3 weeks affect their tracking ability for that period of time?
Very interesting to learn more about this amazing breed! I love how you always include educational parts in your videos. Also, such a cute and gentle pup 😍
Reminds me of the bloodhound my dad had for missing persons work (police). She was so headstrong and really not interested in being a "good dog" - we chalked if off to the fact that we couldn't really obedience train her since she had to be able to make up her own mind while searching. And your comment about them needing a fenced-in yard made me chuckle - she was a NOTORIOUS escapee! So glad you shared this video, took me on a nice walk down memory lane, thinking about that little love brat :p
Balance training is the best for any dog but especially stubborn hounds. I have 8 hounds and 1 of them is a bloodhound mix and using balance training people mistake her as a service dog and using balance training using e collars you can have any dog breed off leash. I should know having beagles, Bassets hound, a Treeing Walker, Bloodhound mix and dachshund who can all be off leash anywhere. Took my bloodhound mix off leash to a beach thanks to proper E-collar training.
There are two kinds of intelligence that dogs have. The first is where the dog quickly learns tricks and what not. The second, which most hounds have, is where they look at you as if to suggest that you go do it yourself.
Short-haired dogs seem to shed constantly. We've had an English Lab/Mastiff mix and now a Belgian Malinois, and both of them have seemed to shed far more than our Border Collie/English Springer Spaniel/Shetland Sheepdog mix.
This reminds me so much of my sweet Hound, Possum. (Yes, we named him Possum, lol) He would howl and "sing" for us every single day. He was an amazing and unforgettable part of our family!
I have a bloodhound named wrinkles and some times he will jump up on me to give a hug, but usually when he sees anyone he starts sniffing them out. Also smart enough to scratch on the door for when he wants out
Oh, one of my favorite parts of grooms is when ears get cleaned. The way dogs gratefully lean into the clean because it feels so good and is so relieving really makes grooming totally worth it.
I have a bloodhound. He’s absolutely a bull in a china shop. Their ears are freaking adorable and they get sooo dirty. He makes me laugh every single day though. To get hound to howl takes very little… just hum or sing.. he likes to join the chorus. He taught my quiet boxer/dane to howl. Music in my house has become a group event. Haha
Our last Bloodhound (Boomer's Bad Boy or BB for short) weighed 153 lbs. He was not overweight, he was just that big. Bloodhounds love water, so having a small pool for them to soak in during the summer is a must. BB would go swimming in the lake just across the road from us whenever he got out. They are also escape artists and will easily climb a 4 foot fence. They really hate having their feet messed with but love to be brushed and have their ears cleaned.
My bloodhound was a literal kangaroo, in his youth he could jump and get his head over our 6ft fence. The jumping and his howling paired made for quite the “intimidating” guard dog and scared our neighbors a bit. But he was actually a giant teddy bear
I'm owned by 2 bloodhounds, 8 and 6 years old, both rescues. My female looks like Vino and my male is red w/black nose. They are goofy, high-energy dogs that go on a sniffari daily to keep them in shape and tired because a tired bloodhound is a happy bloodhound.
As an owner of not only a blood but also 2 American fox hounds, a fenced yard, martingale collars and lots of exercise are definitely required! But, they are the cutest, funniest and gentlest of any dog I've ever had.
Vino is adorable. I love it when people have the less common/popular dogs and we get to see them. When you sprayed her with bubble gum cologne, I wondered if she was going to spend the rest of the day looking for Hubba Bubba.
You can put as much footage of her flapping jowls as you want, I still gotta say that's a beautiful hound right there. What a lovely temperament too, you can tell just by looking what a gentle soul they have.
Thank you for these entertaining educational videos. Thanks to you, I now groom my catahoula leopard dog with the equi-groomer and it manages the shedding so well.
Aww I had a boxer who was a bad ass scent finder. Alas one day he was SOOO INTO his sniffer, he didnt see the telephone poll and ran smack into it!. No worries though he was fine and got lots of kisses Bubba rip I miss you friend. ❤️
Vino did so well! She is such a pretty dog, and so is Ellie! As for Susan's suggestion - a book on the dogs, cats, animals in Happy Hoodies and your scarves - YES!!!
If only every dog was so chill during grooming, great job Vino👏 And am surprised to learn they've got a lifespan of 11 to 15 yrs! A bit longer than a lot of big dogs
I've always thought bloodhounds were adorable, but then I read the book "Bloodhound" by Tamora Pierce and the scent hound in that book is just. so. precious. So of course I went on a research binge and now every time I see a bloodhound I get emotional. Lookit her feets!!! her big ol ears!!! floppy droopy lady of the house!!!!! I want to hug her!!
Ahh one who looks just like my big fella! He's crossed with a foxhound, so I get all the squishy loveable good points - without the drool. I'm lucky to live where he can be off lead, because, yeah when that nose goes down his listening circuits definitely get rerouted! 🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite animal videos involves a bloodhound tracking down an escapee and not even hiding in a muddy bog stops him from the guy. The whole time after the capture the dog is licking the escapee happily and the guy can't stop laughing in spite of the situation. That is how the bloodhound do.
Thank you for showing us a less common breed! And thank you so much for the air drying/lips scene! Made my day! Thank you to the owner for sharing with us also!

To get hound to howl takes very little… just hum or sing.. he likes to join the chorus. He taught my quiet boxer/dane to howl. Music in my house has become a group event. Haha
I love the slow motion blow drying set to classical music 😂 Fantastic. Such a cutie!
2:57 was heartbreaking for my doge. He never reacts to dogs barking in videos, but as soon as he hears whining, he bolts up for the rescue
Bless you for doing a slow-mo section of her getting her face dried! It definitely made my evening!🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, my bloodhound, Clyde, is 140 lbs. Same deal, he’s just a pony.
My bloodhound was a literal kangaroo, in his youth he could jump and get his head over our 6ft fence. The jumping and his howling paired made for quite the “intimidating” guard dog and scared our neighbors a bit. But he was actually a giant teddy bear
My female is 130 and not overweight at all. I completely agree with this lady that a bloodhound is no dog for a beginner.
This is wild 🤣 I just can't picture one of these hopping a fence ! Awesome bit of information thank you 😁😅
Yeah when she said "up to 110 lbs" I was like, hang on...... lol :D
She obviously enjoyed every bit of ear action you gave her. But I laughed way too hard at the face drying, lol
Watching so many steamed hams videos I immediately thought about an unforgettable luncheon!
As a bloodhound owner x3 I can tell you all you said is EXACTLY RIGHT. Drool everywhere
I love that you always squeeze in some facts about the breeds you're working on!
Vino: I am always a good dog. Are you a good human?
When you put the happy hoodie on her, it’s like she was checking to make sure you had one on too 😂
She is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! No wonder they use them for TV. She is so photogenetic.
Oh the drool, especially after having a drink of water! Their tails are pretty powerful too, cleaving Christmas ornaments in half.
She's got velvety ears. SOOOOO Soft !! Sweet Doggie Dog !! Woof Woof !!
She is my top 10 love her
Vino is a gorgeous blood hound and she was very well-behaved!! A very sweet girl!! ❤❤❤
The happy hoodie on this dog gave me a a serotonin boost that I needed today :D
Thank you for these entertaining educational videos. Thanks to you, I now groom my catahoula leopard dog with the equi-groomer and it manages the shedding so well.
Aww I had a boxer who was a bad ass scent finder. Alas one day he was SOOO INTO his sniffer, he didnt see the telephone poll and ran smack into it!. No worries though he was fine and got lots of kisses
Bubba rip I miss you friend. ❤️
I am addicted to this channel. I have never even owed a Dog or animal of any description. It goes to show the channels utter brilliance.
Vino did so well! She is such a pretty dog, and so is Ellie! As for Susan's suggestion - a book on the dogs, cats, animals in Happy Hoodies and your scarves - YES!!!
How about a fundraising Calendar, instead?
I didn't realize they were so big! Cute Pupper! Luv the flappity lips...lol! ❤❤❤💋
One of my favorite animal videos involves a bloodhound tracking down an escapee and not even hiding in a muddy bog stops him from the guy. The whole time after the capture the dog is licking the escapee happily and the guy can't stop laughing in spite of the situation. That is how the bloodhound do.
What a gorgeous dog. I hadn't realised that they are such a large breed!
Yes! She said "up to 110lbs" in the video, but in reality bloodhound males commonly go to 140 or 150 lbs
@@glibbergloop woooowwser! 🤩
How much joy can you get from a 3-5 minute video 😂 I love this channel.
MAGNIFICENT!
She is very even-tempered-seeming girl, and has a very sweet howl. It'd be a delight to own one, if I had a big ol' backyard.
Love that you showed us a Bloodhound!
Thank you for showing us a less common breed! And thank you so much for the air drying/lips scene! Made my day!
Thank you to the owner for sharing with us also!
She’s beautiful. I suspect those pendulous ears would require a lot of maintenance to keep infections at bay. Totally worth it though.
Majestic....
Vino is the best Squishy Monster! Those ears!!! Those "curtains" of cheeks!! She is just awesome! Thank you for sharing that amazing squishy monster.
This made me happy, I've been really depressed and watching this makes me smile. Bloodhounds are my 2nd favorite dog I love it when they drool a lot.
