Ghost not stepping out of their comfort zone?? You know this is from their 1st album right? Tobias is not following a formula. The development from Opus through Prequelle is not similar to other bands. I think having a very wide range of influences helps bands in their own development.
Tobias has said in interviews candlemass was one of their biggest influences
Uriah Heep is one of their biggest influences. Particularly on Opus Eponymous. Just listen to the song 'Return To Fantasy' by Uriah and you'll see what I mean.
Reacting to Ghost - "Monstrance Clock" is an absolute necessity.
Would also recommend Spirit.
spirit, absolution now for ghuleh kids !!!!!! ;)
Monstrance
But that live version from Hellfest 2016!
But LIVE!
The song is from their first album. There was no wave to ride at that time...
Right? They should really do more research of the context of these songs in regards to what album they're from. The band was very much underground at the time when this song and Opus was released. There was no hype train to carry.
Still arguably one of their best albums ngl
@@dillonfehr7545 Personally I think it IS their best
@@ashenone6166 for me it's either opus or meliora. I'm hoping their next album is heavier and dark like opus
@@dillonfehr7545 The lead guitar breaks on Opus are perfect. Nothing else in the catalogue really gave me that same feeling.
Something you didn't touch on - The line "Satanas, We are one out of three, Trinity". Ghost are saying that THEY'RE the false prophet or the (un)holy Ghost. Hence the band name Ghost. Opus Eponymous as an album is all about the birth of the Antichrist. So, Ghost are the unholy ghost/false prophet who're trying to lead you into following the Antichrist. Thought it was obvious but there ya go. Also, in the context of their discography, this is the first ever Ghost song (first full song, first record) and yeah the lyrics aren't as complex as some of their other songs. That's because Con Clavi Con Dio is their mission statement (Lucifer, we are here).
Don't agree with Sori at all when she says that all Ghost songs sound the same. He Is for example sounds nothing like Mummy Dust (another one you really should do). Tobias' voice often sounds the same, instrumentally though? Plenty of variation within Ghost.
Vin my man, you want a heavy Ghost song? Try Mummy Dust and Faith. Possibly their 2 heaviest songs. Gonnne ;)
No doubt
This guy knows what he’s talking about.
Actually it's about the presence of the Anti-Christ,their second album Infestissumam is about the birth of the Anti-Christ. Because the last song on the album Genesis has a double meaning, last song - end Genesis- the beginning, so meaning the beginning of the end is near. Then with the second album, the Anti-Christ is born, and the song Year Zero is like starting completely over,as the Anti-Christ taking over.
@Kim Layman Nope. Opus is about the birth. Tobias (a nameless ghoul) has even said so. Check the wikipedia articles. Genesis refers to the birth of the Antichrist. Plus, the song before that (Prime Mover) talks about the Antichrist being conceived. "Clad in cloak, secretive nun. Bearing the old one's bastard son".
Then for Infestissumam, he said the following - 'Everything on the first record was about a coming darkness, an impending doom. Whereas the new record is about something present, and literally, the new record deals with the presence of the Anti-Christ'.
@@neonspec You are correct. After going back over the lyrics, I see I made a mistake.
how can you say they're following a formula? this is the 1st song on their 1st album
😂💯👍🤟
21:55 Exactly right! Tobias has said numerous times in interviews that the band is more about human nature than anything. They’re a mock-satanic band, meaning that they use extremely played-up and exaggerated satanic imagery to give critique in human nature. This song shows how human nature makes people quick to mock their creator, the song Mummy Dust talks about how we as humans make money almost like a god in a way and worship materialistic ideals, and then songs like He Is shows how quick humans are to fall into dark temptation when they are lost and seemingly have no “Light” presence (or God). That’s why I love this group even as a Christian myself. They’re extremely intelligent in their songwriting and they say some really important things about human nature.
The band no longer uses BC, which was only used in the states and only for like a year because of a naming rights issue with another band.
Joel Brodrick they know
Then why does it say Ghost BC?
Joel Brodrick probably to narrow searches. They have been told many times and have addressed it
I think what happened especially with this first album is that it was supposed to mock Satanism by being over-the-top and cheesy, but Tobias was so knowledgeable on the subject that it actually managed to capture certain forms of Satanism so accurately, it comes across as legitimately satanic and being serious to a lot of people. He kinda took advantage of that on later albums and started putting actual sociological messages behind the satanic lyrics.
I like this analysis....I think you're right
Tobias is a genius
Yup. The more you look into the meanings of the songs and step back to see the big picture of the Ghost project, the more you can see how brilliant it is.
A bunch of Christians looking down & lecturing Tobias Forge haha
Con Clavi means Reunited, like the reunion that happens to choose a new Pope. So the translation is like:
We are together
We are with God
We are with our dark God
Drag Ropes by Storm Corrosion it's gonna give you hours of debate, the video it's a masterpiece, and as you guys talk about religion, it's a must see. Storm Corrosion is: Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree). Love your opinions and thoughts :)
The literal translation is "with nails, with god"
Yes to Drag Ropes!
alison you are completely wrong. This is the lyric
siamo con clavi= we are with nails
siamo con dio= we are with god
siamo con il nostro dio scuro= we are with our dark god
Hold up. I'm glad you like the Chorus part, but you are missing the point.
In Catholic mass, the Priest says a passage, and the entire MASS responds.
So when Papa says Si amo con clavi,
The mass says Si amo con dio
This song is one of their heaviest, and you missed one very important thing.
This was SONG 1, ALBUM 1
VERSE 1. ( Let that resonate for a second) PAPA Emeritus 1 purposely starts out the "Ghost journey" with saying LUCIFEEEEEEEEEER, WEEEEEEEEE ARE HERRRRRRREEEE. This is the beginning of a now 4 Album journey.
This was an absolute call out and a statement. Also, it's made to feel like you are in Mass, and you must respond when you are at the Live Show. When you watch him perform this live, he sings Si Amo Con Clavi, and then points to the crowd, urging us to respond.
So many big points about this first song EVER that you missed.
Enjoy your shows btw.
Hail __________
Hello from N.Seattle
Good insight!!
its called " siamo " - we are
Truth
From what I understand the first three main albums (not the EPs) Deal with 1. Invoking or heralding the coming of the Antichrist, 2. His conception and/or birth, and 3. His arrival on the scene.
Opus was actually about the conception and birth of the anti-christ. Infestissumam was about the presence of the anti-christ after his brith. Meliora was more so about the absence of God and the acceptance of the anti-Christ by the masses (which ironically was the album that brought them into the mainstream), and now Prequelle is about surviving the end of times, which I can only assume is linked with the previous acceptance of the Anti-Christ.
Ohh so many Ghost songs I want you to react to!!
Ghost- Faith
Ghost- Jigolo har Megiddo
Ghost- Zombie Queen
Ghost- Monstrance clock
Choose an acoustic version of jigolo though
Agree! Add Absolution, Majesty, and Secular Haze for me.
The Acoustic version of Jigolo is better though.
@@jyggalag9838 I like both versions..each has its own certain charm..chose which ever you wwnt I feel like its a win win situation haha
Year zero
Ghost ghuleh/zombie queen plsss
Kamikasi ! Definitely for Halloween!!!
SiriusFM live version! :D
Yessss, please!
Yess the acustic version, please Vin and Sori!
Their finest moment. A 50s surf song.
I'm not sure why Sori thinks that all Ghost songs sound the same. The songs on their first album "Opus Eponymous" sound nothing like the songs on their latest album "Prequelle". Does "He Is" sound like "Rats"? Or does "Elizabeth" sound anything like "Dance Macabre"? Ghost does have a distinct sound, but their songs are vastly different from each other.
What I like about ghost is that all albums are different sounding, all their own identity. Truly the feeling of an church like entity.
Also 'con clavi' can also mean 'Fault God'.
Good video guys
It's funny with these two listening to Ghost. When the music starts, they're like, yeah... this sounds good. With looks of surprise and pleasure on their faces. The words kick in, and they turn to a serious look, and no joy.
P.S. Ghost is heavy, no doubt. And very versatile ranging from 80's hair band pop, to 70's metal and back to 90's and on hard rock...
💯
So first of all, as a Christian who loves metal (and Ghost!), I really enjoy this channel. I don't always agree with you guys, but I always learn something from your intelligent discussions. But I just have to comment on the beginning of the video when you mentioned the new president of Planned Parenthood.
I haven't seen the exact comment you were referring to, but as someone who works in reproductive healthcare and is passionately pro-choice, I just want to give my two cents about why an immigrant from China might want to run Planned Parenthood. It's important to understand that pro-choice people in general don't *just* advocate for the right to have an abortion. We advocate for each and every woman to make her own reproductive choices, whether that's to have many children or no children, to have an abortion or use contraceptives, etc. I am equally against forced abortion as I am against forced birth (though as an American, I'm especially concerned about the right to have an abortion), and I don't know any pro-choice person who feels differently. And while I don't know Dr. Wen personally, I'd imagine that she feels the same way.
Anyway, I hope you guys see this comment. This was not meant to preach at you in any way, just to give you the pro-choice perspective :) Keep up the great videos! Oh, and to echo many other Ghost fans, I'd love to see a reaction to Monstrance Clock!
I see it. To make an equivalence between “forced abortion” and “forced birth” is a category error. We host a live call in show, if you’d like to have a conversation that’d be great
@@VinAndSori category error? It's about who should decide over a woman's body. Anti-choice people generally want the state to enforce laws which denies a woman control over her body, because they see the outcome as immoral, usually for religious reasons. But the thing is, you can see something as immoral, but still leave it up to people themselves to make those choices, based on their own moral system and world view, and not use the state to make the choice for them and enforce their morality upon others.
@@ThomasLG aborto is a crime
When the song goes "Siamo conclavi", they are saying, we are in assembly, in catholic religión a conclave, is the reunión of cardenals to choose a new bishop.
This is the first actual song on their first album. It's the introduction to what Ghost was to become. That's why I suggested it to y'all. I love their first album.
That "Supernintendo" part is one of the reasons I love Ghost! Quite a few of their songs remind me of videogames from the 80's - not a bad thing at all in my book :D
Stereotype23 Tobias loves the 80s
same here, it reminds me of a spooky sort of scooby doo type of sound. I hear that's why a lot of metalheads don't like Ghost but that's one of the things that I personally love!
They don't go outside of their sound? Wait 'til you hear Prequelle. I think you guys will like it
*Ghost ghuleh zombie queen* please
I agree.
It's been a long time coming for that one
The best
acoustic version would be sooooo fun to watch
Ghost's most epic song :D
Vin and I are friends forever fa shaw! I guess if you go far enough back we are all related :-)
Jan Erik Tiwaz yeeeup. Family is from Norway. Related to Harald Bluetooth and many others!! Hello cousin!!
Hi guys, i think abortion has to be legal if the life of woman is in risk or if woman was raped or if the kid won't be healthy. It's the right of the woman to decide, not church. Also it's not again christians, if you don't want abortion because of belief, it's your choice but please don't take the choice from other people with other beliefs.
If the woman was raped, the child can be put up for adoption, the child should not have to suffer for the actions of the father. I think it is a very bad notion that so called rights are used to eliminate personal responsibillties and consequences, because convenience and expediency are rated higher than what is moral and right. However, if the womans life is really at risk and her life is beyond saving if she continues the pregnancy, it would be logical and ethical to end the pregnancy with an abortion. #prolife
Cool bass guitars.
at least you accept one of reasons, but there are states in the world with strong church lobby which even in that case denied abortion and rather let mother died. I understand and respect your reasons but what is moral and right could be different for you and for others. Abortion is wrong, everybody know, it's not solution, but in special cases it is acceptable even by morale. I'm happy that I live in country where church isn't strong so we have liberal laws and we are really free. You don't have to be church fanatic to live according to ten commandments

This is off of their first album Opus Eponymous....which also had Ritual and Elizabeth. It is a very different sound than say Meliora (which has Cirice and Square Hammer) and their newest album Prequelle.
only the Meliora Deluxe version has Square Hammer in it, originally it's on the Popestar EP. And yes, every album sounds very different from one another, which is totally calculated ahead of time by his genius mind!! :)
Ah yes you are correct. I have the Meliora Deluxe version. I always forget the last 5 tunes are basically Popestar.
@@derrickshultz6800. No problem, I also have the Deluxe version but I had to buy the EP just for the album art and awesome presentation. No regrets! Lol
Yeeeesssss I've been waiting. A long time for this, I hope you do more ghost in the future ♥
Damn y’all missed out again on “Life Eternal” from Ghost. Y’all gotta listen to it. So amazing
Ghost tour hits east coast in December...you should really check out their live show. Very entertaining and worth it.
Bathory - Oden's Ride Over Nordland/A Fine Day to Die
Please don’t be deterred by the name guys, it has nothing to do with Elizabeth. You Viking lovers really ought to hear this one! It’s sort of in the mid-ground where the band began crossing over from black metal to viking metal. Pioneers you must hear!
Amazing song. Bathory in general I'd love to see these guys react to.
Yea I've been saying this for awhile. Bathory is perhaps the most influential black metal band and one of the most influential extreme metal bands period. As interesting and great as the Norwegian second wave is, they didn't create black metal and the scene itself might not have even existed (or at least not in the same way) were it not for Quorthon and what he was doing on The Return... and Under The Sign Of The Black Mark.
Finally, been waiting for this one
Great stuff guys. You should check out a live video of Ghost next time. It would be great to see you guys react to their live theatrics
Love ur ghost reactions just got off work and excited u have a new vid rock on Vin and sori
Whenever you post Ghost I'm happy
Avenged Sevenfold - A Little Piece of Heaven
I've requested this one numerous times. I don't think they listen to their UA-cam subscribers. They only seem to care about their patroens
Yeah
i'm with some other commenters who've brought up ghost's life eternal and witch image. i'm very curious as to what your thoughts are/would be on those tracks, i just imagine they'd spark some really interesting conversations. i know that for me, after being brought up in some evangelical churches growing up, those songs are among the ghost tracks that hit very different feelings.
Since this is from their first album I guess you could say they were just "discovering the formula" rather then following it :P. And although I love Ghost I do feel this is more about the "shock" than the "poetry"
This is Ghost at its best and most purest form. The only GHost album I listen to on a regular basis. I also play drums to the entire album for a good work out. Good stuff.
Love you guys doing some more first album Ghost!!!!!!
I really love this track and Opus Eponymous is IMO one of their best albums. If you two want a good recommendation for another 'heavier' Ghost track, I'd have to say go for Mummy Dust, It's got an interesting message in it, especially considering your recent Pink Floyd review for Money.
Ghost - Faith !!!
LOL, just thinking of Ghost doing a George Michael cover now... Sorry.
I never really listened to Ghost before. Weird thing is that I never really considered them until watching the review of Don't Fear The Reaper and you guys said it was kind of reminiscent of Ghost. I saw you post this video and thought I would check out this song.
Ghost- Faith from the new album is FIRE!!!
Finally you made this song
Ghost... once again... goood.
Tobias Forge knows alot.
You have Ghost, you have everything.
The look on your faces at the opening lines, classic
Monstrance clock!
I really like this song. I'm glad you guys reviewd it.
10:15 was there some kind of weird grunting yell noise? Couldn't tell if it was on the video or someone making noise outside my house.
Epica - Consign to Oblivion (live at the Zenith)
"I am for a tight logic"
Witnessed Con Clavi Con Dio live in San Diego last week and what I trip that was.
The Super Nintendo comment was funny, a lot of fans often say that ghost is just Scooby-Doo chase music haha
@13:36 where you just discussed the lyrics I think they are much descriptive and line by line it's kinda like how he reveals himself is like a movie
as I promised (although you probably didn't read my comment on your previous Ghost-post), I will keep recommending the following two songs from the band, as they meant to listen together:
Helvetesfönster/Life Eternal. ;)
Though this is the first track off their self titled album, Stand By Him is the first song Tobias wrote (wrote the riff for a different band, they didnt want to use it so he made Ghost to use it). you should listen to it.
Just had discussion with my son: which is your favorite Ghost song?
Mine: toss between faith & Elizabeth
His: toss between absolution and dance macabre.
I think I have raised a good son lol😂😂
Yeah I agree with the lyrics point. This is from their first album and it feels like they were still trying to find their feet.
This is the first song off of ghosts first album (excluding the Intro track) so this is kind of introducing the formula not riding the way
i love how at the end you actually proved the point
Always love the Ghost reactions
They make some sort of "wordplay" with (Cónclave : A reunion to choose a new Pope)
And con clavi or con Clavos which means : with Nails , Cloves , Spikes , Studs or Hobnails .
If you want to hear something different listen to Mummy Dust
What the heck was that voice in the background @10:02?? Haha kinda hilarious it comes out randomly.
3rd Testament (Codex Omega) by SepticFlesh
Also, a lot of songs off of their first album are a bit heavier than their following releases.
Thanks for reacting to this one it's one of my favorites. Next up Ghost " Pro Memoria"
That scream at ten minutes in scared the shit out of me.
MOONSPELL "Tenebrarum Oratorium [ Andamento I ]" & "Tenebrarum Oratorium [ Andamento II ]"
from the 1994 EP "UNDER THE MOONSPELL"
(not to be confused with the re-recorded versions featuring the 2007 compilation "Under Satanae").
You guys should really experience Ghost live. There's a concert in Indianapolis on the 29th, you gotta come.
I always took “one out of three, trinity” as being papa 1 and they knew two more were coming. Tobias did say he had the whole thing planned out.. idk
Have you check out any of ghosts acoustics versions?
On Meliora bonus tracks there´s ghost´s version of the song misionary man.
I love your videos of Ghost. I am a huge Ghost fan. Keep up the Good work. Im also a Christian and your videos a very interesting and fun to watch. Have a nice day. Cheers from Sweden
Great reaction. You should give the whole album, this treat. although we all know u already heard it. But a dark side of the moon analysis. That was great. Imo this is the best album ghost have done and it works best (imo) to listen to it as a whole piece. Keep the good work up and hail satan. ❤️😄
You guys should do a Magna Carta Cartel song. They are former members of ghost. A couple of my favourites are Hotellus Eviction
The Demon King
Valiant Visions Dawn
He wasn't "trying to be blasphemous" he was trying to speak about his religion. As a Satanist, I love the stories Ghost writes about because I see it as my version of Psalms but I also understand that the Satan they're speaking of isn't this mystical beast with horns and a tail, he's just everything.
The heaviest ghost song is FAITH, so good highly recommend.
Heaviest?
@@jyggalag9838 yeah, you could argue it's mummy dust but I mean... mummy dust does not have the strongest lyrics.
@@gavin7097
Strongest Lyrics don't make a song heavy, and why does that matter?
@@jyggalag9838 well i'm not going to like a song depending on how heavy the song is, faith is one of their heaviest whilst being a pretty damn good song.

You guys have definitely started to like Ghost on permanent basis. HAIL SATAN.
Just joking :D But they really have very unique musical style, and its amazing.

A different song from them, which is part of the new album. You guys will like it.
ZOOOOOOMBIEEEEEEE QUEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!
Smudge could refer to Ash Wednesday, worshippers attend services at which they receive ashes on their foreheads. The pastor marks the forehead of each worshipper, often saying "Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return."
Where do the ashes come from?
The ashes consist of burned palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday service. The ashes are blessed by the priest.
i always love seeing them covering ghost
"Shoutout to them...and the four million people that just unsubscribed to us!"
Lolol I love it.
(And no, I don't agree, but hell no, I wouldn't unsub for that- who learns anything with that attitude?)

I would recommend He Is - Ghost. It's one of their softer songs but is amazing.
Es idea mía o en el minuto 15 aprox de escucha un grito de algún demonio en el audio.
waiting tool aenima album
I laughed when the song started and their faces
There is a moving concept from these albums...1st album is about the coming of the Antichrist , 2nd was the Arrival, 3rd was the take over , or absence of God...4th is about the Black Plague.
