A wonderful trumpet for jazz and lead playing. I just wanted to have a recording of how it sounds for craiglist and for reference in case anyone was interested.
That sounds like something special. Great horn with nice memories. Thanks for sharing. My Dad never played trumpet but my bowling bowl was the one he played back in the 50's.
@@MrCoolerdave Agree. I installed some stiffer springs to help reduce the springiness/bounciness of the valves. But, then the stiffer springs took some getting used to, too. And, the horn's weight is something to get used to, too. When I played this horn through middle school and college, it wasn't an issue. Then I owned a few Kanstuls and Yamahas and the weight differential was really noticeable as an old guy now. LOL! Cheers, Dave!
i'm a trumpet student in college and am looking to buy a 38b can anyone, anywhere PLEASE help me. I know how rare the horns are, I'm willing to pay good money for one.
okay.. they really aren't THAT rare ... but you do have to watch the production dates... also FYI if you haven't played one I would suggest trying one out before you drop money on it, unless you get a steal of a deal. The valve action is a bit springy ... I love the sound but I am not sure I would like having this as my go to all around instrument. Watch ebay or craigslist DAILY and you will see one pop up. They just go fast and people are on the look out for them. Good Luck and thanks for listening
or you could save yourself a boat load of money and buy this 6b ... similar valve block and bore www.ebay.com/itm/CONN-6B-VICTOR-TRUMPET-LATE-MODEL-WITH-COPRION-BELL-S-N-962826-1962-/121510576959?pt=Brass_Instruments&hash=item1c4a98433f
I played one of these through high school. When I gave it to my son many years later it was still in perfect condition, no dings, dents or scratches.
My dad played this trumpet in high school, and so did I after him.

I have a 1964 38B with a Bob Reeves precision valve alignment. She plays and sounds beautiful.
Reeves is a master. Those Conns have a great sound. Thanks for commenting.
Interested in selling? Even if not, how much do you think you should get for it?
I have a 1970 38b constellation made in Elkhart. Looks just like the ‘67 in this video. A great horn; underrated and under-appreciated.
I wasn't a fan of the valves but the sound was off the charts good.
Nice to hear a vintage 38B!
Thanks Sean... I loved the sound that came from it but the valves are a little "springy" ... it's a fun horn to play though.

Nice playing on a wonderful song.
Thank you and thanks for listening
what is that thing on the 1 valve slide, it looks like a trigger
yes, it's actually a pretty ergonomic one and doesn't interfer with the grip at all.
Is it in Bb?
Is this the 36b or the 38b?
38b .. the large bell
MrCoolerdave how many inches across the bell? The braces do look like a 38. Selling?
