I owe a TON to Mr. Robert Wadlow. I had the same growth problem as Robert. I was ( at age 12 and I am female ) already 6'4", Here as a kid I was reading the Guinness book of world records daily and came across his account. I started checking the height Robert was at certain ages and my jumps in height were fairly similar. At the end of grade 4 I was 5"5" ( the same as my mother, At the end of grade 5 I was 5'10", and so on. The so called doctor I had at the time kept laughing at my concerns and said I was tall like this because my dad was tall - seriously ??? One appointment I came in at age 12 I told the doctor I think I might have this disorder called gigantism that I had read about in the GWR. She laughed at me. My mother got pretty mad and at least got the Doctor to do a head Xray and blood tests. Well, when the results came back, my doctor wasn"t laughing at me any more - they tested my Growth Hormone ( GH ) levels. Well 0-5 was normal, 5-10 was iffy, my result was 42.5. The Xray also showed a shadow in the pituitary area of my brain. My bone ends were judged to be at the age of 12, so I had a LOT of prime growth ahead of me if this tumor wasn't removed. Thank God this was operated on and removed or my height probably would have been well over 7 feet tall. God Bless you Mr. Wadlow, I hope to see you some day and give you a monster big hug !!!

I feel so bad for this beautiful man. It's so SAD, how many people died in the past, because our technology wasn't there just yet. He was a gentleman, and a giant, but also an Angel.
My Dad was born in 1933 and grew up outside of Alton, IL. He has some vague memories of Robert. At his grave the dirt covering it is raised and as long as he was tall.
I dont know which doctors you you referring to so I commented on them all lol I aoologize for the long reply. As he was a kid: Although I agree you have to remember that times were different back then. They weren't confident enough to operate on something they didnt know much about especially when it had to do with the brain. Although they could have helped him, they could have also done more damage or possibly killed him in the process. I mean they were doing electric shock "therapy" and lobotomies for mental illnesses (big time in the 60s and 70s and this was the 30s) just for being considered to have an "abnormal" attitude that didnt fit with society. As an adult: That doctor that spoke ill of him I believe mainly did it because he wanted to experiement on Robert which is sick. I understand wanting to help, but what he did was vindictive and petty. He was rude when they first met so he didn't want to help, he wanted a gerbil to learn from to make his name known and get money. His illness and death: Yeah they could have helped him. I know they didnt have the tools to accommodate his size, but they could have tried something instead of leaving it to get worse. I mean penicillin was discovered in 1928 so they could have tried that to fight the infection. I dont know why they didnt try to do more. Once again I apologize for the long reply. 😅

So he can't be a joke to us Even if we have proof, bodies grow after death. He could've been 6 ft but had an unnatural thing happen to make him have a large growth spurt after death.
One thing that is interesting is that most of the people who have birth defects like this are usually treated very poorly by there family, and often have to go to abusive circus routines to make money. But Wadlow was treated well by his family, which made his life a good one, even if it was short and hard.
either way he would have died a slow and painful death as he kept getting bigger and his heart failing to support his body i doubt he would have lived past 30

Point?
So he died relatively young at 54. Interesting.
An 11.4 inch hand span (the measurement from tip of the thumb to the tip of the little finger of an outstretched hand) is not the “greatest” known. Several NBA players have hand span measurements of 12 inches.
He seems like such a gentle and kind man 🥰

This is your best video yet. Interesting, informative, but best of all, humanizing of Mr. Wadlow. Until watching this, I’d never really thought of him as more than a curiosity. Knowing about what he went through and seeing the touching videos and photos of him with his family really put a human face on it for me. He wasn’t just some intellectual curiosity, he was a human being. He loved and he was loved. You made my heart ache for a person I’ve never known. Bravo.
Roberts memory has always been in my brain since I read about him in GBWR in the eighties.
I'm glad for this video to learn more about this man.
Robert lived a short happy life despite the hurdles he remained positive. I feel the INCOMPETENT doctors let him down in the end. R.I.P. Robert Pershing Wadlow 🌺🌱🌺

Robert had a wonderful loving family. May he be Resting in Eternal Peace 😇
My Dad was born in 1933 and grew up outside of Alton, IL. He has some vague memories of Robert. At his grave the dirt covering it is raised and as long as he was tall.

Robert: “my back hurts, I can’t bend it.”

Well, he was a giant human being then
Duh
Bro🤦🏻♂️ giant is literally just used to describe someone that’s a lot bigger than average, ffs
At age 7 people must have been like “Oh look a teenager”

So had his infection been treated by local Hosp, he may have lived longer, so sad to hear that, heartless, arrogant drs!

@@ravenmangaming2244 there wasn't advanced medical care back then
can we all agree that it was the doctors fault they should have treat him earlier

One thing that is interesting is that most of the people who have birth defects like this are usually treated very poorly by there family, and often have to go to abusive circus routines to make money. But Wadlow was treated well by his family, which made his life a good one, even if it was short and hard.
