DKM, or The Murphys!! Dropkicks is so khakis & polos, the worst fans at dkm shows dress this way. "LET'S GO MURPHY'S!" is literally the crowd chant to bring them on stage and again for encore. I even have a DKM soccer jersey with those words on it that I bought from one of their shows.
The best live band to see... First time I seen them was in Pittsburgh in 2001 at Warped Tour...and the crowed was flying 10 foot murphys flags...like 8 people had these flags. It was awesome, it gave me chills to see people chanting for them while waiving those flags. Hands down my favorite band. I began listening to them in 2000 and that experience at warped tour sold it for me. They pulled people on stage to do the spicy mchaggis jig and everything. Working class punk rock all the way.
A couple of weeks ago I had the honour of not only seeing the Dropkick Murphys in concert for the third time, but also getting to meet my hero Jeff DaRosa before the show as well! Got to play the signature Dropkick Murphys tenor banjo as well! Watched this awesome documentary the day before I went to see them, thank you WGBH! :)
Great video. I LOVE the Dropkick Murphys. I've been a fan since Mike was the lead singer. Seen them live many times. The only band I've stayed 100% loyal too through the years. When I first heard their music, I thought, damn, that's my family. Irish American, blue collar, union workers, a lot of beer, crazy family.
Haha, great comment. No doubt their music embodies blue collar, hard-working, hard-partying sensibilities. Glad you liked the video! Thanks for saying so
WOW, so happy I stumbled upon this video & page tonight. I've been a big fan of The Murphys since '97, so I'm psyched to check this show out. I've also been a fan of PBS since I was a small kid in the very early 1980's. It first started with MPBN, or The 'Maine Public Broadcasting System.' Then sometime in the 90's I believe, my cable company switched over to WGBH-Boston. I remember though being a fan of their programming much earlier as MPBN showed a lot of programming originating out of WGBH. My biggest favorite was 'This Old House.' I remember watching it in 1980 I believe....during it's second year, as the show began in '79 I think. Even as a small child in the early 80's (I would have been 7 in '81), 'This Old House' with Norm & Bob was easily one of my favorites. Also who cannot forget 'Mr. Rogers,' even though it originated from the 'WQED-Pittsburgh' PBS affiliate. Another big favorite of mine was 3-2-1 Contact which went from '80 to '88. Great show for learning, & I'll always have these jingles in my head 'till the day I die: "Contact, Is The Secret, Is The Moment, When Everything Happens, LET'S MAKE CONTACT!" Lol And this one: "Where Ever There's Trouble, We're The Bloodhound Gang." HA! Anyway, glad to have stumbled upon your 'WGBH Music' UA-cam channel tonight, & cannot wait to listen to what you have in store.
What an awesome documentary. Saw em live a few days ago and their setlist has completely changed. So much material that they barely touched the old songs. A bit disappointed they didn't play BOYS ON THE DOCKS AND SKINHEAD.
Lucky enough to catch the DKM up at Snowshoe, WV this past Sat., 3/7/15, thank you all for making the drive up there and for awesome show, in the snow, damn hope to be lucky enough to see you again sooner than later, happy St. Paddy's day and safe travels!!!!!
best band ever! all tracks make me smile, you all kick sooooooo much ass! been jamming to dropkick since do or die and seen them plenty of times to say favorite live band and most fun ive had in the mosh pit!!!!
This is a really fantastic documentary of the band. Nice work, WGBH and Dropkick Murphy's. I mirror Joe's comment. This documentary made me want to work harder today and tomorrow. Inspiring stuff.
I've been on the both their's gigs here in Zagreb, Croatia and even the first one was without Al Barr(he had to stay in hospital in Germany because of problems with pankreas-at least that was what Ken Casey said) the both was fantastic and can't wait to see them live again!!!!!!!!! They are the best punk-rock band today and one of the best punk-rocks bands ever!!!!!!!
They are coming to West Palm Beach Florida Sunfest, I have never seen them live. My buddy has been to many of their shows and has scars from the pits to prove it. I am 100% sure he will get a pit going at Sunfest. We saw Flogging Molly at Sunfest 4 years ago in the rain, yes, he got a pit going, the band thanked him for his energy.
Excelente banda. Cada vez que la escucho es como una inyeccion de energia. Espero tenga algun diala oportunidad de conocerlos en un show en vivo. Sigue asi excelente produccion de documental. Soy de Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Saw the Murphys a few years back with my brother. It was an amazing show. In September I am seeing Them with Rancid in Nashville. Funny story about the show I went to a few years ago. During Kiss me I'm Shitfaced, I didn't get up on stage but my brother did. My brother had a previous funny story with Ken up on stage, I can't remember the details. At the end of the show during autographs, my brother didn't have a paper or anything to sign. He said "fuck it sign my arm". Ken Signed his arm saying "Fuck Off -KC" We both thought it was amazing.
Great vid. Looking forward to the July 17th show. I'm hoping to be invited up on stage. It's a shared festival thing so they may not do that. In any case I'll be the guy up front and center.
Wow, thanks wtranger54! Appreciate the comment and desire to contribute. You could make a WGBH contribution supporting our programming here: www.wgbh.org/support/tvpledge.cfm
Question for the general public! In the background before they get on stage, you can hear a song playing for the crowd, with a female singer... They had the same song playing when i saw them at the House of Blues last year... What song is it?? You can hear it clearly at 2:13 ... PLEASE HELP! lol
Too bad the crowd at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD last month couldn't appreciate the quality live show the Murphys put on for them. No one sang along to Rose Tattoo. The response from the crowd was so tepid that the band did a quick medley into another song.
well what can i say......... been watching them for a while......... they will never understand what ireland is really about, i remember parking my truck waiting to ship from liverpool to ireland and being told to not use the irish toilets..... there is only one band that comes from ireland and they are SLF

Excellent production...
Mitch Everson thanks, Mitch!
Let's not gloss over the fact that my dude killed it on that vocal spot on Skinhead on the MBTA
Why doesn't Al Barr get that many lead vocal roles?
I like explicit language and also in the mosh pit. Erin Go Bragh !
What a GREAT fucking video! I
I didn't know Brendan Fraser played rhythm guitar and the accordion.

Sinead oConner with the Dubliners from the lond Black Veil Album
@TheBatshy it's Sinead O'Connor with The Chieftans, not the Dubliners. Song is the Foggy Dew.
1:06:46 he's like put your fucking phone away
Are they coming to Ireland or am i stupid? r
Industry insiders : I'm curious, what kind of money you think this band makes? What do you think the members make annually ?
Too bad the crowd at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD last month couldn't appreciate the quality live show the Murphys put on for them. No one sang along to Rose Tattoo. The response from the crowd was so tepid that the band did a quick medley into another song.
What´s the name of the song it is played before the band played "the boys are back"???
The Chieftains with Sinead O'Connor "The Foggy Dew"
go beantown:)
It could be considered boarderline child abuse having those little ladies doing the Irish jig keeping up with the music😂
Does anyone know the name of the song playing at 2:05?
The Foggy Dew
nhgroupie Thanks!
