I thought of a challenge like this a while ago, and have completed Disgaea 1, 3, and 4 so far with a slightly different rule set than this one: 1. I'm not quite as crazy as Primal, so I let myself use as many prinnies as I want and didn't do the "death = restart" rule. I also allowed myself to use the better tiers of the prinny class. 2. No skills or evilities that are not natively accessible to prinnies may be used. (Since scrolls don't exist pre-5, this mostly means no using skill inheritance.) 3. Deploying humanoid units is permitted, but they may not take any actions apart from lifting and throwing, and they can only be used on stages that are impossible to complete without them (e.g. for gaps in the terrain that can't be crossed otherwise.) Dealing damage by throwing prinnies is permitted. If you counterattack with a humanoid unit, you have to reload a save. I had to use rule 3 pretty quickly for most of the runs. Level 2-1 in Disgaea 1, for instance, has enemies on ground that's inaccessible and unreachable by prinny skills. One trick I had to use a few times was to deploy a human unit, pick up a prinny, deploy a second human unit, throw the stack, then end the turn and let the human holding the prinny get killed off. This lets you move the prinny without it counting as having directly thrown it.
This got me curious enough to do a little testing as I wanted to see how far you can get without power levelling and so far I have a few early game notes in case anyone else wants to try this (currently just finished chapter 2 at level 17, only one non mandatory battle to complete a quest faster) : -You can get access to a fair few more early game spells before chapter 2 is done. There are quests that give you ice (for a water weapon ie water pistol), fire for killing 8 sludges and fire blessing for 3 magicians. Fire is very useful immediately since zombies are weak to fire and resist monster weapons. (Also the geo symbols in 2-1 are enough to get the star scroll on it's own) -Not mandatory but removing the Geo effects on the map with the high up mage in chapter 2 will make them start moving towards you. So if magic wasn't an option, there is another solution. Doing this will also get you the one time bonus which is the heal spell if done correctly. -Prinnies can't lift but montoss lets them throw at least. -Once you can subclass, i would recommend the Imp as an early focus for two reason: if you can get poison heal before the end of poisondise then it shuts the main gimmick down. The other reason is the evility that reverses the effects of weaken since some of the major bosses (bloodis comes to mind) have weaken on their skills and having this evility will make them buff you instead. (Both of these also synergise with through adversary which is a higher level prinny evility you may wind up getting as you go since promotions through classes happen automatically) -You have two weapon slots so packing a physical and magic monster weapon doesn't hurt for more magic resistant monsters. -after some testing on my post game save file, unfortunately summoning your netherworld is the only solution to getting past chapter 12 without instantly dying to the netherworld effect. I tried the thief evade danger evility (which nullifies explosion damage, including the bombing but explosive body seems to override it and it also requires a tier 5 thief) ,deathblow immunity from both the bear class and usalia (although you can't use the bear until after this chapter anyway and getting usalia's evility would require squads and mana grinding) and none of them worked. The only non dlc solution is to horde a bunch of bonus filler items from the item world and summon your netherworld on turn 1.
Small update: Restarted that playthrough to remove the one optional battle and am currently going into chapter 14 at level 98. A few more notes: the Quests that give spells are unfortunately random so if you are unlucky, star is the only consistent option which does make the Geese fight a bit tougher. Another quest highlight is Power of Bowls. If you can secure that quest as early as possible, get it since it's a great option for chapters where evilities are not as needed. (gives a 5% boost to every stat for every empty slot. Outclassed by stuff later but is great if you can nab it early. I still get use out of it by ch 14) Fire and flame blessing are also pretty solid since Prinny Bomb is fire based. Also it may not seem important but pick up charm vaccine. There is one level in particular that is nigh impossible to solo at a lower level without it Rabbit and Imp are amazing sub-classes for a good few chapters. Hidden Valley is insane on chapters that are naturally high up (which is actually pretty common). It essentially doubles attack and Speed for free. Imp for the same reasons mentioned but also Elemental reverse actually works on the chapters with netherworld effects that cut resistance by 50%. Giving you a free 50% resistance against the enemies primary attacking element. Also lets you compensate for Prinnies natural weakness to fire. Succubus is also good for Bones out, giving you a defence lowering effect on all attacks, including magic. When Sub classing a mage, I went with the witch since Expand is good for that additional magic range. (also you can be a higher level than 98 by where I am but I allowed the use of squads as long as the prinny is the only member. Mostly to see if I can max out the prinny squad by the end of the story. As such I have been using the capture and interrogation squads and capturing does not give EXP). There are also some interesting things I noticed along the way: For chapter 12, you don't even need to have prepared anything in advance. There is a 10 mana bill that charges the bonus gauge which is more than enough to summon the netherworld for the 2 maps that require it (yeah, only the first and second have bombardment) -If wrestlers have access and the MP for Super piledriver, them picking you up is not the end of an attempt since Super piledriver does not trigger the prinny explosion. It still eats your turn so just make sure you are always close enough to them that they will default to Hurricane blow (which most fist users seem to since it's their strongest skill early on, even bloodis if you don't steal his fists) With poison heal and through adversary, Majorita boss fights are pretty easy if you just gun for her first. Without going back to do optional battles, you actually miss out on the shroom monster class and potentially the Ninetails as well if you can't find the item for it Biggest walls so far have been 8-3, 9-2, 12-4 and 4-1. (although I don't restart the run on death. When you don't have lvl3000 HP, it's simply doesn't sound fun to me to reset. My rules mostly prohibit power-levelling, the cheat shop and stat enhancing item like the magic shards and extracts while also going for the absolute minimum battles possible)
Love prinnies. Phantom brave was the first nis game I played and the prinny was a difficult to get secret class type. I love challenge runs but feel bad for how much time this must take for you.
I have never underestimated your grind but I have gained more respect for it if only because I don't know how you can do it mate, just drawing a big blank
You say which one Primal, but you know you're asking yourself which one first!?! I do like the disgaea games. I've actually completed uber baal on all of them using only generic units without reincarnating once, inheriting where available and.... Without one unit dying at all from start to finish. I dare you to do the same, Disgaea 2 is the hardest of those challenges. Godspeed dood
You talked about a 20-30 hour run that you could do to basically complete the game and end up at max OP. Did you already do a run of that or would you be willing to do that run? I'd love to watch it.
Even without that unfair technicality, I think you would have had an extremely hard time with a couple of the last few maps due to the Reinforcements criteria, where an enemy spawns on a random part of the map every turn. These were the hardest stages for me to do with my OP Maid solo, and she was equipped with Bows for decent range. Trying to do it with a Prinny might have caused you to throw your controller out the window.
If your speed and defence are high enough, you can just tank the damage and use area attacks to mess over the enemies. When you are op, the enemies can't even kill nor damage you.
Wow, a Prinny-only run, killed by a technicality! That's harsh! I tried a similar challenge, restricting myself to only using Prinnies throughout one save file. Obviously, that's not exactly hard, just a tad slower than your average Disgaea run. Because of that, I never realized that the "Bombing Run" Netherworld effect counts as an explosion and triggers Prinnies, since I just bum-rushed everything on turn 1.
I think there's an invincible geo puzzle either walls or enemies on invincible panels in disgaea 1-3. Ive never played 4. Id love to see a full LP including LOC of any disgaea game from someone who's knowledgable of the games inner mechanics.
As soon as you said you were gonna say dood asm much as possible, I knew this would be an abomination, and I'm so keeeeeeen, I've been watching a while I only just noticed your name is great, just solid.
Now if this was Pringer X, that'd be a much different story. Only things that'd get in the way would be if you had to toss someone to another platform, or if an enemy was out of range due to Height issues/lack of Skill Range
the "restart the entire run" rule basically discounts this challenge entirely, because at some point it will become a matter of encountering a wrestler and not wanting to restart a several-dozen-hour file. of course it's going to fail.
you must be new to my channel, if i made a rule like that then you better believe im going to stick to it, i knew about wrestlers before i even began and already had a plan for that
@@Primalliquid92 my point isn't that you wouldn't stick to your rules, it's that he rule is a "this is going to fail/die" from the outset, since the failure condition/massive soulcrushing timewaster is completely outside of your control. having the rule AS a rule immediately killed the run, since it would come down to an astronomically low chance to go through an entire run with all the grinding required without a single enemy using a basic game mechanic on you.
You could have just created a Heavy stance ability scroll via chara world or unlocked Dark Knight via subclasses. For what he got stuck on, he could either gain bonus gauge prior to the fight starting and then summoning their netherworld to stop the explosion damage. If this doesn't work, you could always include the free prinny DLC and have "Pringer?" be your only unit.
Hey, hold up. I'm pretty sure you could summon your own netherworld to overwrite the current netherworld's effects, allowing you to get through the level explosion free, and you can raise the Bonus Gauge by using a potion from the base panel.
Total lack of Doods in this video dood, but also I think you can learn evilities in the Chara world that stop you from being thrown and possibly taking exposition damage? But I could be totally wrong I haven't played this game in ages now, and even then I didn't really play with Prinnies.
had to go check and completely wrong though I thought there was a skill that protected prinny from being thrown from something maybe just not this game.
You can get a ice scroll with the quest Its really cool, you just need to clear few quests for it to appear, crab pincer (monster weapon) is the first water base weapon (freezer innocents), no need to upgrade the shop rank.
It's is possible, he could have summoned his Netherworld to cancel the effect. Although the machanic is overlooked it does make this run more than possible.
Love your content Primalliquid, but the doesn't the thief class have an evility at rank 2/3 that nullifies explosions? If you ranked up your thief sub-class you could grab that and no more BOOM!
god damn... i legit checked lists for all evilties to see if it wasn't only the DLC prinny that had it and i couldn't see the thief one at all :( well, time to revisit this in the future haha
Doesn't Evade Danger only prevent the equipped from being *damaged* by something else's explosion? I don't think it prevents *you* from exploding if you're explosive.
You actually don't need to place other units in a squad. You can literally just have the singular Prinny in a squad and you'll still get access to the Squad Attack, along with whatever bonus that squad gives. Props to foregoing it regardless though

I thought of a challenge like this a while ago, and have completed Disgaea 1, 3, and 4 so far with a slightly different rule set than this one:
1. I'm not quite as crazy as Primal, so I let myself use as many prinnies as I want and didn't do the "death = restart" rule. I also allowed myself to use the better tiers of the prinny class.
2. No skills or evilities that are not natively accessible to prinnies may be used. (Since scrolls don't exist pre-5, this mostly means no using skill inheritance.)
This got me curious enough to do a little testing as I wanted to see how far you can get without power levelling and so far I have a few early game notes in case anyone else wants to try this (currently just finished chapter 2 at level 17, only one non mandatory battle to complete a quest faster) :
-You can get access to a fair few more early game spells before chapter 2 is done. There are quests that give you ice (for a water weapon ie water pistol), fire for killing 8 sludges and fire blessing for 3 magicians. Fire is very useful immediately since zombies are weak to fire and resist monster weapons. (Also the geo symbols in 2-1 are enough to get the star scroll on it's own)
-Not mandatory but removing the Geo effects on the map with the high up mage in chapter 2 will make them start moving towards you.
(Both of these also synergise with through adversary which is a higher level prinny evility you may wind up getting as you go since promotions through classes happen automatically)
-You have two weapon slots so packing a physical and magic monster weapon doesn't hurt for more magic resistant monsters.
A few more notes:
the Quests that give spells are unfortunately random so if you are unlucky, star is the only consistent option which does make the Geese fight a bit tougher. There is one level in particular that is nigh impossible to solo at a lower level without it
Rabbit and Imp are amazing sub-classes for a good few chapters.
There are also some interesting things I noticed along the way:
For chapter 12, you don't even need to have prepared anything in advance. There is a 10 mana bill that charges the bonus gauge which is more than enough to summon the netherworld for the 2 maps that require it (yeah, only the first and second have bombardment)
-If wrestlers have access and the MP for Super piledriver, them picking you up is not the end of an attempt since Super piledriver does not trigger the prinny explosion. It still eats your turn so just make sure you are always close enough to them that they will default to Hurricane blow (which most fist users seem to since it's their strongest skill early on, even bloodis if you don't steal his fists)
With poison heal and through adversary, Majorita boss fights are pretty easy if you just gun for her first.
Without going back to do optional battles, you actually miss out on the shroom monster class and potentially the Ninetails as well if you can't find the item for it
Biggest walls so far have been 8-3, 9-2, 12-4 and 4-1.
Another update. Just beat the final boss at level 152.
I mean I've wondered since Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero came out. Thank you for doing this.
Man I have played just a little bit of disgaea 3, so I have a idea of how much grind you had to do, and it's insane
oh yea D3 was probably the worst in the series for the grind, maybe even worse than DD2
I've always wondered if it was possible. I'd love to see this done with Disgaea 3!
same
I always love your disgaea content Primal!
Love prinnies. Phantom brave was the first nis game I played and the prinny was a difficult to get secret class type.
I love challenge runs but feel bad for how much time this must take for you.
even if they take time and in this case, end in failure i still have tons of fun making them so i dont really mind
Love this man... great content
:)
Read the title, and Thought "Yes, yes you can!"
this is basically what I did but when I got flonne 😭 she kept tanking all the hits and killing everyone so she just ended up being all the classes
Correction: " I must work the word dood into as many sentences as possible DOOD!"
I have never underestimated your grind but I have gained more respect for it if only because I don't know how you can do it mate, just drawing a big blank
i just look at it as being the same as those who play cod all day or starcraft all day ect
I'd love to watch it.
ill probably do one in the future for that tbh
You’ve smashed this game and I’m so shit at understanding everything 😂😂
Amazing game, also your trial is appreciated ! Now we know this fact because of your discovery!
weirdly I had to sub again.Video liked. Love disgaea this is just what the doctor ordered
Good video dood!
This is brilliant and madness.
I love disgaea and your videos. Try this on disgaea d2, i think that game is underrated
the Defuse evility cancels outs the bomb damage
oh Disgaea, like Dragon Ball, overpowered and over the top dood. i absolutely love it
Why did I never think about this challenge!?
This is an insane challenge dood
Disgaea 5 feat. Hero Prinny!
Nice challenge man!
thanks glad you enjoyed it :)
This gave me nightmares of the standalone prinny game.
woah, nice video dood!
can't you use the summon netherworld + bonus gauge potions? sorry if i'm wrong
16:58 would netherworld summoning cancel it if you were able to gather up enough bonus gauges?
Wow, a Prinny-only run, killed by a technicality! That's harsh!
I tried a similar challenge, restricting myself to only using Prinnies throughout one save file. Obviously, that's not exactly hard, just a tad slower than your average Disgaea run. Because of that, I never realized that the "Bombing Run" Netherworld effect counts as an explosion and triggers Prinnies, since I just bum-rushed everything on turn 1.
Huh...did not expect it to end like that... points for defying my expectations. :D
Awesome video dude!
Glad you enjoyed it
I think there's an invincible geo puzzle either walls or enemies on invincible panels in disgaea 1-3. Ive never played 4. Id love to see a full LP including LOC of any disgaea game from someone who's knowledgable of the games inner mechanics.
Love your vids!!
Leaving a comment for the algorithm, dood.
Love the video, dood!
Glad you enjoyed!
Amazing run idea hope you make more Disgaea challenge run
You could have just created a Heavy stance ability scroll via chara world or unlocked Dark Knight via subclasses.
For what he got stuck on, he could either gain bonus gauge prior to the fight starting and then summoning their netherworld to stop the explosion damage. If this doesn't work, you could always include the free prinny DLC and have "Pringer?" be your only unit.
Your patience is nuts!
Hey, hold up. I'm pretty sure you could summon your own netherworld to overwrite the current netherworld's effects, allowing you to get through the level explosion free, and you can raise the Bonus Gauge by using a potion from the base panel.
Loved Prinnies from Disgaea 1 up to this day.
Instant Like!
This is awesome, dood
Total lack of Doods in this video dood, but also I think you can learn evilities in the Chara world that stop you from being thrown and possibly taking exposition damage? But I could be totally wrong I haven't played this game in ages now, and even then I didn't really play with Prinnies.
had to go check and completely wrong though I thought there was a skill that protected prinny from being thrown from something maybe just not this game.
You can get a ice scroll with the quest Its really cool, you just need to clear few quests for it to appear, crab pincer (monster weapon) is the first water base weapon (freezer innocents), no need to upgrade the shop rank.
i originally went for the quest shop magics but they just would not spawn for me so i went to star instead
Disgaea 4 seems like the logical answer, since that is the prinny instructor one.
read the title, immediate like and comment :p Tragic ending, but love the effort!
Never played Disgaea but after hearing that "your can so millions even... Trillions of dmg..." I live big dmg numbers so It's really tempting
tbh i'm sad seeing this, after tons of hours you put into this vid turns out to be the game said "NO" to you
prop to you man
It's is possible, he could have summoned his Netherworld to cancel the effect. Although the machanic is overlooked it does make this run more than possible.
Awesome video dood! I think it would be very interesting if you could do a "how overporwered can you get" with a SMT game.
The Lady Samurai has one that prevents the character from being lifted
He could have easily summoned his Neatherworld too. By using a Filler or passing 100 mana bill.
You actually don't need to place other units in a squad. You can literally just have the singular Prinny in a squad and you'll still get access to the Squad Attack, along with whatever bonus that squad gives. Props to foregoing it regardless though
My comment for the time used to do this.
Thanks.
