Every Vocaloid gives a feel that they wish they were a real person, which is really sad if you think about it.
You make a point there. Disappearance of Miku is very straight forward about this topic.

Well, considering the songs had to be written by a real person who obviously had something to say, found this as a medium in which to express the ideas they had. Similar to an author using a pen name or an animator doing the same. Sometimes people don't want to take credit for the work they do in these fields especially considering how personal the feelings expressed in songs like this are. Therefore they utilize a medium that allows them to retain their anonymity. Vocaloid is a fantastic representation of this idea in my opinion. Let me know what you think on the subject if you see this. I do realize I'm posting this two years after your original comment.

the fact that this song came out when i was in elementary school blows my mind. i listened to this so much growing up. old vocaloid really has a different feel to it... much more raw i guess? i miss this era ngl

To me, the song is about how others blindly look down upon her when they know nothing about her at all. They tell her that she is what they tell her to be. But she rebels. Everyone is writing the laws and judging the masses, but she refuses to accept their selfish logic. She holds contempt for the institutions (Science? Religion? Law? Society?) that attempt to pin her down and force her to conform. They are self righteous and gratifying, too blinded by their own beliefs to see the torture that they inflict upon her.
She has a dream that she is questioning because the whole of society is bearing down on her, and she is trying to figure out if she is justified or not.
It's sad that society and the human mind can drag individuals down a dark road. In the end, she was a type of person who simply thought about the world differently. Refusing to conform, not a bad thought, but it led her to a disappointed lifestyle. At least she could dream of a better world... A better option is to work towards a life that she sees fine in her eyes. The world and it's people may not be perfect. Isn't it fine to have dreams and work towards a better life?
I feel that way. Everyone's pressuring me to be normal; I can't. Because being "normal" is something none can be. So why lie to one's self?
+Julia Martinez For me, it's not that people are pressuring me to be "normal". It's more of the feeling of not fitting in. Combine that with a judgemental society and it leaves my mind a little disturbed. We should just live life how we want, but keep in mind of what our actions can do to others. I'm not interested in making another person's life even harder when most of us already have enough problems to deal with. So in the end, be the best person you can be or at least try to be nice.

I've just started learning Japanese and I'm glad I can read some of the subtitles ^___^ I can't really understand the singing yet though, i'll have to work on that
Bakamatsuu I've been learning for only about a month now, and the main thing i've been using is an app called Human Japanese, it's really great with loads of chapters & it's for beginners ^__^ as well as that, I just google things like verbs and vocab etc...and learn different words and every day :) I learned to read and write hiragana pretty much perfectly from the HJ app and i'm working on katakana right now~ good luck if you decide to learn too - it's a really nice language :)
I started learning Japanese too, I'm just not that good yet... But I'm happy that I'm better at Japanese than French, and I live in Canada so I have to learn French on a daily basis in school.

When she says that everyone tells her that she is an idiot and enemy of all of them I can relate to that.
I say this because back in my school days pretty much everyone thought that I was an insignificant useless idiot and sometimes it seemed like they also thought of me as their enemy, I still can't believe that I was able to pull through my school life, it was horrible.

Still my favorite IA song imo after all these years.
Years ago I would listen to this song and just cry because I related to it so much. I felt understood and that I wasn’t alone in my feelings. Now I’ve gotten out, gotten help, and made a great life for myself. I’m genuinely happy with myself and life now. It’s really nostalgic listening to this. It makes me proud knowing how far I’ve come and that song helped me in some way to overcome it.

***** Hm...I find it odd that nobody has mentioned this, but the way I view the ''is mama or papa on top'' is that it's not only about sex but about gender and society.
It's most common to view the man being on top during sex, and since the song is about an antisocial girl and the *society* she lives in, I always thought it was about gender roles and the irrational ways they're sometimes set up, because neither the man-on-top nor the woman-on-top position is ''correct'', people just view it that way due to stereotypes and the fact that people used to believe that the former was.

Papa wa Mama no ue ni nokkate. Ue ni- to be above. Nokkate-present of nokkaru- to get on. Literally it is Papa +standard particle+ Mama +possessive particle +above+ location particle+getting on.
Is it papa or mama STANDING at the top? as an actual meaning of the translation rather than a literal word for word view. This English translation is a bit jarred, but there wasn't anything sexual about that. Sorry, but your theory...has nothing to do with it. This song had nothing, I repeat, NOTHING to do with sexual overtones or undertones. It's just the translation left quite a bit out and not just in that one line. Japanese is really vague so they don't necessarily complete sentences with verbs, sometimes they just use particles and leave the verb and the other construction in interpretation to the one they are speaking to, because they are pretty lazy about that. That is why you get so many misunderstandings in anime. While the two conversing will understand because the original topic started with them- the one who comes in suspects from vague words. This is why my friend didn't get the job in Japantown. Hands down she could spout off Japanese easily in proper, complete sentences but it's the cultural understanding of the language that she couldn't get and she knew it. She still tried. The interviewer asked her what ONE WORD meant....She got the translation just fine, but for Japanese while shopping that one word conveys a whole structure of a lengthy question and the interviewer told her she had to know common speech Japanese.
Susanne Eby The english translation actually failed to present the meanings precisely in several sentainces, the next sentence for example, means ' (my father) shook his bottom like a moron'. 腰（こし）means waist, not back. If the author means ' turned my back ', he would use the term ' 背向け ( せむけ) ' .

this song can be interpreted in many ways, but for me it's about how bad/stupid this society is, and escapism. note the last lines on the song, "Isn't it alright if it's just in my dreams?" it shows that she doesn't like reality at all as it's incredibly harsh, or nothing just goes in her way, and this society isn't helping in the situation either, considering all the people are so judgemental. yeah. i hope that helps ;;

think the song is about a lonely girl who finds every detail important and judges,like in the beginning when she was criticizing the news,person saying anyone can talk like that with a script. However.However she is often bullied for doing that,so in the end she disappears..or something like that..

To me, the song is about how others blindly look down upon her when they know nothing about her at all. They tell her that she is what they tell her to be. But she rebels. Everyone is writing the laws and judging the masses, but she refuses to accept their selfish logic. She holds contempt for the institutions (Science? Religion? Law? Society?) that attempt to pin her down and force her to conform. They are self righteous and gratifying, too blinded by their own beliefs to see the torture that they inflict upon her.

If the translation is actually "the sleeping me" she could mean that they are criticizing the version of her with the eccentric clothing; the part of her that she is suppressing and is thus "sleeping." It's times like these that I wish I spoke Japanese so I could know just how accurate some translations are.
There's more. "Are you an idiot? even so you could put understandable words side by side." I think this is less about her thinking that she isn't smart and has more to do with other people treating her like an idiot because they can't understand what she's saying. Either she is too smart for people to know what she is talking about or she has an odd way of saying things.

This song reminds me of my struggles with maturity and gifted kid syndrome.
I've spent a lot of my life trying to fit in with a world that I feel like I don't belong in, where I'm constantly told I'm wrong for not fitting in with my "friends" who don't get me.

It's a little known one. I used to have it in my likes but I think the video got deleted. I'm pretty sure it was IA who sang it, but there's a chance it was Miku, as well. I'm not too sure on the title- something with 'oto' (sound) and / or 'kaze' (wind), and I don't remember much of the lyrics as well. I only remember the video, which was a little girl (who kinda resembled Hiyori from Kagerou Project) lying on a dirt road, and I'm also pretty sure the road split at the end in two directions. It was a simple drawing
