    Haps forgot to mention one of the biggest QoL we got this patch: COOLDOWN RESET ON WIPES
    We used to wait oGCDs to reset or come up with alternate openers and mitigations when various tools weren’t ready.
    This shaved off so much down time between Raid pulls.

    • @dataunknown
      @dataunknown Рік тому

      Yes, this was definitely one of the biggest QoL changes for anyone who does any kind of raiding.

    Apartments are very important in my opinion, especially if utilized right. Even if you have a Private Home and a FC House, Get An Apartment! The apartment can be in a different district (My Apt is Empyreum, my Private House is Shirogane, my FC House is Lavender Beds), thus giving you a cheap teleport point, at 1/4 the cost of the connected city. If, like me, you use gil for teleports at low-cost distances to save tickets for long range, this can save tickets when jumping from the Shroud to Kugane, just by hopping to that Shirogane Apt and exiting the housing district for low gil cost!
    Not only that, but if your FC and Private Home are small, this can give you extra indoor space for anything. Small house that you decorated but you want a large aquarium that doesn't fit? Toss it to your apartment! A family member of mine uses her apartment as a 'toy display', filled with all the stuffed animals and statues on tables.
    I know some few FCs don't keep a chocobo stable (if very themed designed). With an Apt, you have access to one there!
    Lastly, the apartment comes with it's own storage for indoor furnishings. Not only can you use your private FC room's storage, you now have the Apt's too!
    Finally, and this is big. Apartments are NEVER subject to Auto-Demolition. The only way to lose your apartment--is to voluntarily leave it.

    • @SubduedRadical
      @SubduedRadical Рік тому

      Yeah, I think people sleep on Apartments, but they're pretty useful. The only thing they REALLY need is some small antechamber/balcony you could put a few outdoor things on, and if the apartment had a sub/airship base for public use (like the Choco Stables), but maybe you could only use a smaller personal one that could still get all the stuff FC ones can but lower chance/less quantity.
      Those two changes would make it where people without a house or without a FC aren't seriously hampered compared to those who have them.
      Got a Small for the first time from one of the lotteries (went to Gridania where I love the biome, found a Small plot with 0 bids on it, bid on it, won it [no competition],) and while I do enjoy it, I don't really use it all that much. I feel like if the Apartments had SLIGHTLY more usability, people like me would give up/relinquish housing entirely, opening more of those up to other people, and fewer people would feel they NEED a house. Also if they up storage/item slots for Apartments, but...I think they said at Fanfest that's the plan, right? For all types of Apt/house increasing the space?

    I still want to see Squadrons expanded on in the future. I wanna be able to take a squaddie out into the world and use them in place of a chocobo companion, or something. Would give a reason to actually glam them.

    • @ajayrious
      @ajayrious Рік тому +5

      Yeah same. It's just another piece of dead forgotten content at the moment, all those squadrons stuck at level 60. I like your idea of taking them out into the world instead of the chocobo (another dead forgotten system) but first just give me the Stormblood dungeons already. Maybe we could even take them into Variant Dungeons.

    Yeah I think what really cannot be overstated for people who weren't there is how this patch (in conjunction with its follow-up 3.5 patch) breathed so much life back into FF14. We're used to getting regular QoL improvements nowadays but after some misses in 3.0-3.3 I remember being *really* impressed at their commitment to actually making life better for their players. Creator wasn't my first raid tier but it along with the rest of this patch cemented that 14 would be my main MMO 100%. When you opened with this being maybe the most important patch for FF14 outside of 2.0 I immediately agreed.

    This patch was really special because was the first time I got into raid scene, and I managed to kill the A10S Boss AFTER the enrage. I think they have changed this today, but I accepted a raise in the very moment my team wiped and after the black screen my monk was alive solo facing the boss with 1% hp. That was remarkable to me

    I've spent a very very long time playing FF14, and this patch had one of my favorite community moments of all time.
    Sophia's song (Equilibrium) was a huge hit at the time, and I remember a bunch of Reddit threads trying to piece together the lyrics and to understand the story the song was trying to tell. It was such an amazing time as a community.
    Actually, the official lyrics for the song ended up being a bit of a letdown compared to what the community came up with.
    Also, genuinely surprised Happy didn't mention the cooldown reset this patch. That. Was. HUGE.

    It was shortly before this at 3.38 that I 1st tried and got into 14 with the at the time 14 day free trial. My oldest screenshot on Steam is dated August 24th 2016 (so 7 years old this coming Thursday) that shows me as a Level 13 Archer (Later switched to Conjurer and became a healer main with WHM & SGE being the only jobs I have at 90)

    The way my friend convinced me to play the game was showing me, of all things, A10S
    I had no idea what I was looking at but it was a combination of that, A12S, and the Ozma fight in weeping city that really sold me on the game
    I'm quite sad that we don't see as many unique boss arenas anymore

    The thing I remember the most about 3.4's MSQ other than how important it turned out to be for ShB was the final solo duty of it. I think it was the first solo duty where I took 3 tries to actually complete it.

  • @ajayrious
    @ajayrious Рік тому

    I'm not a raider, but I agree 3.4 was the turning point for me also. The MSQ in this patch was my favorite even back then, and even more so with what happened in Shadowbringers. I loved the way it incorporated Titan Hard mode for example, and also the live letter beforehand finally got me to do Coil because we were promised additional dialogue if you'd done it. I'd been playing the game off and on since beta, but i think this was the patch where XIV finally became "my game" and i became a lot less casual about it.

    Agreed. As much as people go on and on about how we need to get to the "good old days" of early HW, I don't think those hardiest of hardcores get how close it came to killing the game a second time, and how huge 3.4 was at setting the game in a sustainable and healthy direction.

    I could be mistaken, but wasn't this also the patch where cooldowns were reset upon party wipe, and you didn't have to sit and wait for cooldowns before continuing your next pull? Or was that 3.5? Cause I could've sworn that was part of what made Creator so much better than all it's predecessors.

    Wasn't this also the patch of cooldowns resetting on death? That was such a massive improvement for raiders. Instead of having to wait for everyone's 2/3 minute skills to all reset (or god forbid tank invulns like Hallowed Ground) you could just get right back into the raid. So much wasted time just eliminated.

  • @Xemera18
    @Xemera18 Рік тому

    I could have sworn that going with your squadrons into dungeons was added in stormblood patch 4.2, you were able to send your squads out before but the ability to go into dungeons with them was added later.

  • @yabiyabi
    @yabiyabi Рік тому

    I remember doing Sephiroth for the first time, I died not long after, I think it was first knockback that eliminated me.
    The story no longer made sense with the praises, I hated it that I couldn't go back. Even Titan , the story made no sense when I wasn't the one who defeated.
    I think for emersion sake too, it was bad idea to not have players resurrected, but I wonder if it was something they didn't know how to do it.
    I am glad now we can do it. I do not mind if the extreme fights have this kind of penalty, although I wouldn't want it necessarily. It'd be too punishing.

    so weird to think solo potd wasn't even the initial challenge, because that's so central to the content today.
    I will say, I do prefer squadrons to trust/support. Telling the guys to attack the next pack before I get there- Thancred takes his sweet time going pack to pack, but I can direct the squadron tank "yo, go get that"

    Squadrons are super to trusts in just about every way, except healer AI. But have you tried wall to walling with Alphinaud? Cheeky bugger doesn't even have cardia.
    Also if you've built a good compositionthey are straight up stronger than playing with actual players because they have damage buffs that go beyond anything players can have, AND they are completely unaffected by mechanics. If you need to fast level, squadrons are 100% the way to go.

    Honestly, I still barely use the double cross hotbar, even to this day. Just the need to double press the trigger feels not responsive enough to be used on the regular. I tend to use it for non combat things, or set and forget things. Things like tank stance, Kardia, sprint, teleport, return, etc.

    This was the patch that truly started the "Balance or Bust" mindset and who could blame people, it was a 20% damage buff for 30s on anyone which you could make 10% damage buff for 30s for the entire party, this was single handedly the worst change to any healer pre Shadowbringers, it killed any sense of healer balance, it was actually decent to go double Ast for healers in savage. The fact it took until patch 4.05 to lower balance is so silly.

    Its wild that by curing Gabu's tempering in shb Alisaie made such a big discovery and the game almost immediately push it to the side
    Yes endwalker msq happened but still..... ITS CURE FOR TEMPERING
    Yes initially it was porxies but still(just realized i said but still twice lol)

    • @enlongjones2394
      @enlongjones2394 Рік тому +1

      But it *did* create a huge turning point. Curing Ga Bu led us to curing the tempering of the Kobold leader, opening the channel to real negotiation and reconciliation with the tribes. Limsa Lominsa made peace with the kobolds and moved onto finding peace with the sahagin. The amaalja allied with us for Pagalth’an, and we were able to leverage that into an alliance. Alisaie’s discovery allowed Eorzea to make strides to a lasting peace that was unthinkable for much of the story, and it’s followed through with that.
      Personally, my biggest gripe on this note would actually be with the Bozja story. A big part of it relies on Save The Queen tempering a big number of our allies, and the story kinda sweeps the capture-and-cure option under the rug. There *is* a point of no return , but it felt like we gave up on recapturing our allies too fast.

      But after 5.5 we never see more of it which i guess kinda makes sense
      I just wish alisaie got more recognition for it cuz her discovery would save so many lives when the alliance used to off the tempered on sight
      Regarding bozja tho,didnt they end up bringing porxies a little too late?
