I grew up on a farm and we regularly raised orphaned baby raccoons. They are so much fun. We also taught them how to survive on their own. One female returned for two years and brought her babies to meet us.
Opossums are fun to raise too-very affectionate.

This must have been fulfilling to raise raccoons and opossums. When i was in my 20's, i volunteered at a wildlife waystation up in the foothills of Tujunga, CA for about 2 1/2 years. We would get baby opossums, squirrels, crows, and other wildlife that the public would bring in for care. It was such a rewarding experience to be a part of this process, and i would love to do it again. I'm happiest when i'm with nature. You seem similar in this regard. 🦝🦡🐿

Okay that little life jacket is I think the most adorable thing I've ever seen. People that will give anything for animals are just the greatest people on this planet.
There is only one thing cuter than a raccoon, and that is a baby raccoon. I used to feed the little guys. It was such a joy. Lucy is adorable and l think that resilience is a natural raccoon trait. Even sweeter is the fact that Lucy has a raccoon sibling and a human mom who is so devoted to them.

I raised three different raccoons when I was a kid. No offense, but I think they'd out-compete all of Australia's fauna, including the humans. They've certainly out-competed me on more than one occasion. A lot of people here _hate_ raccoons because they're so good at getting what they want.
If the AU did have racoons they'd probably have fangs or poisonous spurs🤭

Raccoons are one of those oddballs that you either love or hate. Wild raccoons are time consuming nuisance in a lot of places, thankfully out here in Central California they're pretty gunshy about entering urban areas. They don't usually break or tear up things, but they do enjoy knocking things over and rummaging through whatever is inside, poorly mounted bird features, garbage cans, plants, etc. They are also adorable because they look like tiny furry bears, and a pair of socialized raccoons are always just fun to watch interact with eachother and their surroundings.
What a sacrifice! But for such a wonderful cause. Some people have the most generous of hearts. That was a huge responsibility, and still is.

Thank you SO MUCH for being earth angels…helping and saving these beautiful beings. I grew up with a mom who was the president of our local SPCA in the Bay Area and I felt we were SO lucky to have the chance to see beyond dogs, cats, etc. I love raccoons and although I cannot have them in my home , I can live vicariously through wonderful people like this couple, Lucy and Louie’s caregivers ❤

She is adorable, I have a crew of three that regularly come looking for snacks. I sometimes treat them to banana moon pies and it’s hilarious the joy they get eating them. Sounds like they’re saying yum yum yum with the noises while eating 🙂

We feed ours those cheap peanut butter sandwich cookies . They refuse to eat anything else snacks wise. They’re at least 5th generation babies now.

My friend and I saved a baby raccoon 🦝 because mama never came back for her. We ended up calling the wildlife center here in Wisconsin and they took over, because we did not know enough to keep the feisty baby!! They are so adorable!! Thank you for taking care of this sweet precious angel!! 👏♥️

I am sorry for her, that she can't be wild, like she's supposed to be. I am however, glad that she (clearly) has the best non-wild family possible. Thank you for being willing to share your time, finances, heart, home, etc. with this amazing little girl and her foster brother.
Raccoons are very intelligent, mischievous, and dexterous little critters. We have a lot of them here in Toronto. Too many people consider them a nuisance just because they are super resourceful and know how to survive in an urban environment.
This was their home before humans came, and I love seeing wildlife in the city. We have foxes and coyotes here, too. Sharing our world with wild animals is wonderful!
Thank God there are people out there who go the extra mile to help these animals.

This is SUCH an amazing and huge responsibility. This is way different than raising a child of your own species…this is being thrown into a dark scary cave and being told to find your way. Humans that dive in to this are the best kinds of humans.

I have been feeding 3 raccoons every night now for over a year. Last night they brought a friend with her baby. Dog food, bread, noodles, fruit, cat food, etc. they love it and I enjoy doing it for them.
My heart can't take the cuteness overload with Lucy in her little pink vest. That was just too cute thank you for being awesome and taking the time to make sure she has a chance at a good life. Peace and love to you and your family ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

1:20 I admire you, your fortitude, your empathy. I have hand fed 5 infant cats, all to success, so I do understand the work, and the worry. My most recent 2 included Captain Fantastic. He had a hard time eating. I ordered special bottles, from a company that makes formula for almost every sort of mammal one could imagine, and a few more! The bottles are glass, and are an angled cylinder. They facilitate a more natural, reclining nursing position. It really helped.🤗🤗🤗💋💐💐💐🇺🇸🌸

I grew to love racoons so much when l lived in an isolated place in the Smokies. We kept attracting more & more of them. We had 11 cats & they could smell the catfood apparently. We ended up feeding around 20 each evening. They liked certain dry catfoods, so away we went. I became attached to them.
When l had to leave them eventually, it broke my heart.
They're wonderful, cute creatures, aren't they?

Lucy and Louie are both adorable, thank you for taking such good care of them. I have raised many baby raccoons my self and I know the joy they bring. I see in these videos people using kitten nursing bottles or bottles with regular nipples to feed them. What I have found works best for baby raccoons is a Playtex nurser. It has a wider nipple and is flat on the tip and they tend to latch onto it better.

I love Lucy. Raccoons are very intelligent and curious, which gets them in mischief. I had one for 13 years. As a baby she got in my purse and pulled everything out and examined it. Loved to get in clothes drawers and sleep. Those little hands were constantly moving.
