I ended up buying one of these shortly after this video was uploaded. I had to learn the hard way to back up the SD card but after that I've been playing ever since. I absolutely love it. I only wish I could record gameplay and post to UA-cam or live stream from it. Custom-made SD card with certain custom builds would be awesome products to buy for people who own these. Anyway I just wanted to say thank you for showing me this console. For anybody who doesn't know about computers (and those people do exist because I'm one of them) this machine is amazing still after almost 3 years.
Hi everyone, thanks for the awesome feedback, and just to clarify, yes I'm aware that Android TV boxes are also a great option. I have three of them coming in the mail and will do videos on them in the future! This video is meant for those who simply want to unbox and plug a fully-featured solution directly into their TV with zero fuss. I should have been clearer in my video about that :)
I’m curious about the AV port. I have an older CRT that I keep specifically for light gun games. I’d like to see how this would handle those games, especially since it has this feature native. I’m guessing that port refreshes like a CRT and not via scan lines (which is what stops light gun games from working on modern TVs. Is this something you can try out? Maybe just confirming how it behaves so I know it’ll work properly.
Russ, THANK YOU so much for doing this video! I really appreciate that you listen to your subs! I would truly enjoy your expert touch on upgrading the system, if you feel it needs it, like you did for some of the retro handhelds!
@@RetroGameCorps be aware that there are a LOT of counterfeit San Disk cards out there, and that it’s highly unlikely they would include a genuine one with a device like this. But, maybe you got lucky!
Well I hope it's genuine. Then again if it has the advertised capacity then there's a good chance that it's genuine. Most fake cards have just a fraction of their advertised capacity.
@@ronch550 I’m afraid that isn’t true, even SanDisk reports that around 1/3 of memory cards that are sold around the world are simply rebranded cards of inferior quality, produced by other manufacturers. Sometimes they also have less capacity, but not in most cases like you state.
Im glad you did a review on this. I was debating between this and the pi4 and went with the pi instead. Im super excited to see how you feel about the raspberry pi 4. One thing is dreamcast emulation is fantastic. N64 is kinda difficult. Thanks Russ!
I ordered this back in January and it might be arriving as soon as tomorrow. This looks really impressive in terms of all the game it has. I wish it had ColecoVision games. But I agree the console itself does look really cheap and flimsy. Wish it looked more substantial. Thank for you mentioning the "confusing to buy" concern. 17:12. Agree. I wish it had Colecovision as well. I tried to download some Coleco ROMS today and they wouldn't play on the Console so far. My Super Console X arrived yesterday and wow! it's pretty much as advertised. Very easy to set up and to start playing but I'm having two issues: 1) How do you jump back to the main menu after playing a game? I mean this one here at 5:15 2) I can't seem to get both controllers to work at the same time for two player games. They both work for single player mode. Am I supposed to do something with the controller settings to recognize the second controller?
I'm thinking about getting one myself. Ive been around since the Atari 2600 days so I already know I would enjoy one of these that has every console that I grew up playing. Great video as always :) I have a Pi 4 with a Nespi 4 case. I want a handpicked game selection, custom scraping media and texts, theme adjustments... Configuring all that is so time consuming. Since I already have the Pi here I can't get myself to buy another console. What I also dislike is that they don't offer a cheaper version without controllers and that you have to use a bluetooth dongle since they don't have it built in. But I agree, both the price and the plug and play aspect are great with this device.
This is an tv box with Amlogic s905w with an image created by a Brazilian guy named Galisteo. I agree, u can buy this product and enjoy asap, but if u buy a tvbox with s905x3, for example, u can flash an micro SD with a lot of nice images avaliable in internet (look at galisteo channel) and have a better performance spending less money. @@spencelatouche8758 u can search in Google or UA-cam. Theres some with emuelec 4 already, and for s905x4. U can get a clear image from emuelec github page and install ur own game packs too.
Since this is running emuelec. Could you theoretically share the SD card with other Emulec handheld devices with 2 sd card slots? I dont mean running the actual OS, I'm thinking about sharing my game library and save states. It would be amazing if I could play on my tv, then just chuck the sd card in a handheld and continue my progress. I'm trying to remember if any of the emuelec handhelds actually have 2 sd slots though...
I bought this based on this review you made. Thank you so much for making it, it answered almost every question I had. I am Not disappointed. However my menus don't look like yours. AND, when I do get anything of good looking menu, I have no boxes or videos for SNES, or NES... It's annoying as hell. How would I swap it to look exactly like yours? Also, any way to get Coleco Vision put on this?
Haha, very nice! My speakers are definitely overkill but they sound great. And I have plans to put my OWC hard drive enclosure below my desk, but just haven't gotten around to it.
Mine is frustrating the heck out of me. A controller will work in the menu but then all of the controllers appear to reload when an emulator loads and then none of them work.
In middle of Tring to configure dig on android box to get something similar was attempting emuele but couldn't figure out device tree and image to use on my box so changed direction but if had noticed this before hand I may have just done this
Nice to see from your chanel a positive review about scx i am waiting for mine to arrive and watching your video it makes me happy with my purchase. I order the 128gb version for 75 euro witch is a good value for what this console offers also watching the zelda ocarinas time running so smooth makes me even more happy. If you have the time i would like to see n64 golden eye performance. Watching many youtubers being happy with that console it satisfine me i feel i did a good purchase. About your review once again a perfect one with your honest opinion as always gg👍 Oh btw i dident know that there is a way to play with your ps4 controler nice to see that. I cant wait to recive mine asap.😁
*Will you please answer some important questions I have about Super Console X:* 1) Can you remove the images on the sides of the screen and just have black borders? 2) How do game saves work? (Save states? In game saves? SD Card?) 3) Can you use any USB controller or just what's included? (I think this was answered.) (I'm ordering one of these, so I hope it lives up to the hype...)
1. You can certainly remove the borders. 2. Saves are done via in-game saves and/or save states, the software will let you do both. 3. You should probably be able to use most USB controllers, there may be some that don't work but the vast majority should.
Yeah I think I'm getting this. I like that it's just simple plug and play. If it allows me to play Zelda OoT, Zelda MM and a bunch of other N64 games with a N64(usb) controller on my 4K TV I'll be a very happy man already. Does it also have Majora's Mask on it?
Please, a video on how to get ColecoVision games on the Super Console x. Where to put the bios. How to use the emulator to access the keypad for the games. Coleco is always forgotten. I’ve tried to load roms, but I’m doing something wrong. I can’t find the info any where. Thanks.
In which file format is the micro SD card formatted FAT32 or NTFS. How many GB on the 128GB SD-Card in total is already occupied by the operating system, emulators, etc. and ROMs, because the real size of micro SD cards from different manufacturers is different. If you also want to pack Roms, you can definitely take a bigger 256 GB card straight away. Which cards of which manufacturer are recognized by the SCX?Thanks.
Mine took like 2 and a half months to arrive. Box was kind of beaten up but nothing too bad. The controllers had something rattling inside sobi thought they were both broken. But it turns out it was just the usb stick in the battery compartment. I don't think it was clear the controllers needed 3 triple a batteries to operate. Its okay I guess I can always buy rechargle ones
I keep going back and forth on whether or not to upgrade to a Pi4, picking up this or getting a Android TV box and installing Emulec. I’m at point I’m tired of downloading images for a Pi and configuring this and that. I spend more tweaking things that I don’t get to play. Recently picked up a AtGames Legends Pro because I was seeing all the great things people were saying about it. The reality is it’s buggy, they send out updates that screw things up and don’t address bigger issues like 3rd party controller support like they advertise. The build quality was good but the platform is a hot mess. The social media (UA-cam and Facebook) community pushing on how great it is it must be getting some kickback from AtGames.
I bought one of these boxes but the games were corrupt a couple worked most didn't, I have tried removing the roms and replacing them with others but for some reason it wont boot anymore, Kind of wish there was a flash where I could just reflash the sd card.
I'm not sure, those Arcade1Up upgrades require a USB controller board and I'm not sure that those are compatible with the software that runs on this (EmuELEC).
you keep referring to retroarch. I'm trying to run retroarch on my pc, and having problems with my logitech and ps4 controls. I'm assuming retroarch is built into these systems. So if I'm having pc problems wouldn't the same problems when mapping?
I just wish theyd make a COINOPS NEXT machine. I have yet to find a perfect system. I dont wanna keep buying and buying. THis may be the one for me though. I dont wanna spend half the price of a PS5 on RetroPie system.

Hello i have the super console pro, i have a problem i adjusted the controller buttons and i messed up, now i can't to open the options with start button or select and fix it, what can i do please help me thank you.
Anyone else’s save states stop working on the super console x? Is there’s a fix for that? Also if using an 8bitdo game pad the super console x doesn’t acknowledge the right stick.
Because the card is games partition is formatted to FAT32, it's prone to write errors. I would plug the card into a Windows 10 PC, and it will likely prompt you to "scan and repair the drive". Follow those prompts and it should fix your save state issue. My adapter recognizes my right stick just fine, with both an 8bitDo SN30 and my PS4 controller. Make sure the adapter and controller are set in "x-input" mode, that does the trick for me.
I'm waiting for this to come in the mail I just ordered it from Amazon for 79 bucks, thank you for your review. I heard you mentioned that you made another video about how to change some of the settings to get the most out of the games, do you think you could link me the video on your channel cuz I can't seem to find it...? 🤔. hi I need your help you see i just bought the 8bitdo 2 classic edition. But will it work with the super retro console x ? if so how can it work with the pad..... i just updated the firmware. but when i plug the controller in the usb port it didn't work...
I'll do a video on it. Long story short is that it does improve some things, but it also causes issues because of the 1GB RAM bottleneck. EE 4.0 really needs 2GB RAM to shine.
Hello, I bought this and just got it. Problem is I cannot play Ikaruga and other Dreamcast games because I don't know how to move between directions... Some games work, some doesn't and I don't know how. Any solutions? Thanks.
It has a heatsink already glued onto the CPU, but no other cooling. This chipset is rather low powered, it gets warm after use but I wouldn't say it gets "hot". Hope that helps!
If I insert the supplied Micro SD card of the Super Console X into the card holder of a Windows 7 or XP PC, it is then possible for me to use the Win32 Disk Imager to make an exact copy of the supplied memory card of the Super Console X to another Micro SD -Card to clone? Do I have to install Disk Genius beforehand and can I then access the memory card with Disk Genius in order to copy further games to the Micro SD card? THX.
Yep, you can clone the card using Win32 Disk Imager, I do it all the time! I'll pick up on all the partitions on the card and clone it wholesale, no need for Disk Genius.

I think it's a pretty great solution for those who don't want to fuss with setup.
Moi j'ai le nvidia shield TV fonctionne parfaitement avec retroarch 180 et dig regarde mes vidéo après c'est sur j'ai passé énormément de temps dans les réglages afin d'obtenir le meilleur résultat
I recommend you to buy a mini cooling fan to put it underneath the console because it heats up a little bit.
Does it make a difference if you put it on its side?
@@ghostofpambo6266 I haven't tried it but putting the fan underneath has worked fine because the air flows through some holes that the console has in the bottom. Check in Amazon and search for mini fan for tv box. They're cheap
@@manuelhernandez589 Thanks. I'll pick one up but I need the console first!
@@ghostofpambo6266 go for it. You won't regret it.
I have seen other videos that says this machine is trash I think you are the only person that said its decent.
Russ I just got 1.8 Billion on Zaccaria Steam Devil Riders 2019 Deluxe Pinball Table and I'm the #1 global score on that table's leaderboard!
He broke it all the way down.
Best review ever!
Great video as always :)
I have a Pi 4 with a Nespi 4 case.
Excellent video I was on the fence until I watched this
This is an tv box with Amlogic s905w with an image created by a Brazilian guy named Galisteo. I agree, u can buy this product and enjoy asap, but if u buy a tvbox with s905x3, for example, u can flash an micro SD with a lot of nice images avaliable in internet (look at galisteo channel) and have a better performance spending less money.
Nice video.
The worst thing is the China guys got emuelec and galisteo hard work to sell things that the both offer for free. I really didn't like that.
@@forati I agree, I'm not a fan of these free software solutions being sold for profit.
Any other recommended images other than those by Galisteo?
Holy Crap our desktop setups are nearly identical! I have different components, its how it's physically set up. Great minds...
Haha, very nice! My speakers are definitely overkill but they sound great. And I have plans to put my OWC hard drive enclosure below my desk, but just haven't gotten around to it.
Really cool little box. Is it possible to change the console art 'sidebars' to something else or are those permanent?
I Now Have This, and It Works Great
Mine is frustrating the heck out of me. A controller will work in the menu but then all of the controllers appear to reload when an emulator loads and then none of them work.
Awesome! I’m buying it now
In middle of Tring to configure dig on android box to get something similar was attempting emuele but couldn't figure out device tree and image to use on my box so changed direction but if had noticed this before hand I may have just done this
Nice to see from your chanel a positive review about scx i am waiting for mine to arrive and watching your video it makes me happy with my purchase.
Hope you enjoy it when it arrives!
Thank you.🙏 one question with the 8bitdo adapter i can conect only one ps4 controler per time; or i can conect multiple ps4 controlers;
*Will you please answer some important questions I have about Super Console X:*
1) Can you remove the images on the sides of the screen and just have black borders?
2) How do game saves work? (Save states? In game saves? SD Card?)
3) Can you use any USB controller or just what's included? (I think this was answered.)
(I'm ordering one of these, so I hope it lives up to the hype...)
1. You can certainly remove the borders. 2. Saves are done via in-game saves and/or save states, the software will let you do both. 3. You should probably be able to use most USB controllers, there may be some that don't work but the vast majority should.
@@RetroGameCorps Thanks for the info, it was very helpful.
WOW, stumbled on the channel. new sub!
There are other games that run fine in the Super Console X PSP emulator. For example FIFA Street, Virtual Tennis and Marvel The rise of the imperfects
Thanks.
It runs Emuelec by the looks of things. Check out the details of that emulator.
Where did you download the theme @ 5:35 it looks awesome my kid would love to have it on the tv screen
did anyone else hear the dog collar at 1:36? LOL
Haha, sorry about that. I have two dogs in the house who are always jingling and jangling, so I didn't notice it was in the video!
Fire TV stick works great for me for this application on a pinch. Otherwise I really don't like playing retro games on a big screen.
Yeah it's definitely an acquired taste, I like gaming on handhelds :)
Where can I see the video were you set up the handheld screen like GBC and GB?
deffo going to buy one of these one day
But can the bessels be turned off? I would prefer just black bars personally.
Can you use this for arcade 1up upgrade instead of raspberry pi ?
I'm not sure, those Arcade1Up upgrades require a USB controller board and I'm not sure that those are compatible with the software that runs on this (EmuELEC).
Oh Boy, I was looking for a machine like this! Seems perfect for me.
Can I just drag&drop everything to a bigger SD Card or what should be done?
Hey man. Awesome video. Wondering if u can tell me if No mercey is in the n64 games please
@GamebroTV yes?
you keep referring to retroarch.
Hey I followed what you said in order to change the screen ration on my Gameboy Advance games. It didn’t change anything but then when I turned it off and turned it back on again all of the screens are super zoomed in and now unusable. I can’t even get back into the menus or options to change it back because it is all un see able. Please help!
I soon have mine. But, can you make a video to show us how to backup the ssd card?
I'm waiting for this to come in the mail I just ordered it from Amazon for 79 bucks, thank you for your review. I heard you mentioned that you made another video about how to change some of the settings to get the most out of the games, do you think you could link me the video on your channel cuz I can't seem to find it...? 🤔. Thank you in advance.
What is adapter's voltage and amp for powering this console?
I'm thinking using battery to make this console portable.
I wonder if this would connect to a modified Arcade1Up Street Fighter machine. I have a Raspberry Pi on mine but it seems to be very buggy.
hi I need your help you see i just bought the 8bitdo 2 classic edition. But will it work with the super retro console x ? if so how can it work with the pad..... i just updated the firmware. but when i plug the controller in the usb port it didn't work...
KinHank is the maker of the console.. 6:10 ref . IE the KinHank Super Console X.
How do you add coins? In the dolphin blue game? None of the buttons are allowing me to add coins?
Just got this. many arcade games don't work. It shows EmuELEC Error blue screen with grey center screen and black code text. What is solution?
Would upgrading from EmuElec 3.5 to 4.0 improve any of those cores or performance on anything?
I'll do a video on it. Long story short is that it does improve some things, but it also causes issues because of the 1GB RAM bottleneck. EE 4.0 really needs 2GB RAM to shine.
Hello, I bought this and just got it.
Problem is I cannot play Ikaruga and other Dreamcast games because I don't know how to move between directions...
Some games work, some doesn't and I don't know how.
Any solutions?
Thanks.
Great review. My biggest concern is actually the cooling. I'm sure it's passive only, but does the unit get really hot after extensive play?
It has a heatsink already glued onto the CPU, but no other cooling. This chipset is rather low powered, it gets warm after use but I wouldn't say it gets "hot". Hope that helps!
What's the game for the thumbnail for the PC Engine TurboGrafx? With the green and pink visors
I'm looking for Williams defender, tempest, astroids. Are these games included, tia
@@RetroGameCorps so if you clone for example the supplied 64gb card to a new 512gb card you will have all the extra space left in order to put your own rom collections in every system ? What about artwork ?
Hello dear sir...so i made a mistake to try and change the contoller buttons...now the first controller is working as a prime one..meaning doing all the start, select fights...the second one is moving left, right etc but when i go in the game i can select to start a game...it doesnt work at all...what should i do?is there a way to make the second controller work properly as well?go back as it was?maybe reboot?if i am saying it right...
How do you save games? (I'm thinking about buying one)
You can either use save states in RetroArch, or in-game saves.
@@RetroGameCorps Thanks!
Is this still available anywhere?? Been looking for a reliable plug and play one! Or what is new that would be as good as this?
the game pads are completely unresponsive in NES games, but they work in PS1. Anyone know why?
Does anyone know if it’s possible to connect a 360 controller with usb adapter to this console?
