I wish somebody would tell the story of how Canada was truly settled and contextualized by a specific Iroquois group. My family is from Montreal and we left with the northwest company to Alberta. We were the first successful settlers. We lived independently and hybridized with the local cree while creating our own unique dialect. When David Thompson needed people to show him the rivers of the northwest, he enlisted one of my great uncles to lead his canoes. Our last name is Waniandy. I am told it means people of the river. I think every Canadian should know that name. I am one of a handful of people who know even the rough timeline of this story. Which ends with the creation of jasper and Banff natural parks, which are examples of a complete genocide. The story is also why you don't hear tales of cannibalism when trying to cross Canada. The trappers were completely taken care of with both their physical needs but also their diplomatic needs. As Anthony Henday was unable to make it that far due to the Cree unwilling to negotiate with the Blackfoot

The deer that the Iroquois hunted would’ve had a great Gilmore, fat than deer in modern times because the American chestnut was prevalent in that region. Chestnuts are preferred by deer in comparison to acorns 100 to 1. They are a far more nutritious food source for them, in the deer would have had more chestnuts than they could possibly ever eat once they started falling in autumn.
