The more immortals you add the less prestigous the title becomes.
Except there’s been about 10,000 play professionally. 500 play internationally, 150 in the hall of fame and less than 15 in the immortals so they could add about 85 and still be in the top 1% ever to play.
@@troystaunton254 i disagree, An immortal should only be reserved for the top 10-20 players to ever play. Thats what an immortal in a sport should mean. The rest can go Hall of fame nothing wrong with that.

Why does cam smith need to wait for players to be inducted from 30+ years ago ? andrew johns didnt have to wait long, why does it change for cam smith who is arguably the "GOAT"
Joey was a much better player then cam..

@@therelinquished4751 I just think that smith was surrounded by better players. JT, Lockyer, G.I, Slater etc .. and sure, he was great with his Vision and strategy etc .. and had longevity and the records . But Joey on the other hand had far more clutch plays and big plays at much bigger games.. origin, grand finals etc... he delivered and dominated.. unlike smith who had to rely on the likes of JT and Co to execute...
@@pelerontanda4367 "better players" he came up with slater/ cronk/ thurston etc... none of them were superstars when he started and he got a free reign of being with an elite class above him, they all worked together to create the qld dynasty.
he had a few overlap years with lockyer sure, but you cant dismiss what he did when the next batch of talent came through
every year was the same thing "this nsw side is better on paper" then they lose

But yeah, also, consideration should be given to older players.. maybe like a Lockyer or a fittler.. then Cameron and the lot from the QLD dynasty can have their turn.. 🙏... Ps. Lockyer, Smith, Thurston are the only ones deserving
Since 2005 Australia has produced its worst records and rankings in history. Hard to believe they are seriously calling any of them immortals.

If they go Cam Smith by the time they pick the next one, it'll probably be Thurston....then Cleary, then some bloke who probably hasn't played yet.
So giving it to Cam Smith now means any other player from the past is basically forgotten about and will probably never get the chance. Recency bias is going to kill the whole concept.
What is the criteria for it, though? I think that's a big problem with who they pick. If they pick a centre from back in the day like a Rogers etc. who is good in their own right, but does that mean Inglis being the best centre of all time who is elite in multiple positions is a shoe in for immortal? If they pick Sterling, does that mean not only the obvious Fittler, Lockyer, Thurston are immortals, but Cronk is as well? It's not outrageous names I'm bringing up, but I think waiting so long with eras to induct players, it's let us seen even more elite talent overtake some players, so there will always be a question over why this person, why not this person and so on.

Do agree with Hindy. Pretty sure Cam Smith, Slater, Thurston, Fittler, Lockyer will all eventually get it. I think they rushed Joey in (even though he obviously was going to be an immortal) so should give it to the older boys first, but again, shouldn't be handing the title around like candy.

Agreed he’s the only player to win 3 world cups and all at a different position centre, lock and 5/8. Fittler, Lockyer, Langer and Joey are the 4 from the 90s who should be going in. Just like Sterling, Kenny, Lewis and meninga from the 80s.

I'm sorry but Andrew Johns being an immortal is ridiculous.
Firstly it happened far too quickly after he stopped playing when great players have waited much longer.
Secondly it was based on winning 3 origins in a row when Queensland won 7 or 8 in a row. Where is J.T. Cameron Smith or Darren Lockyer?
I can name a number of players who merit the honour above Joey Johns and had better records. Alfie Langer for one.
But these guys aren't from NSW.

@@ozbolli The Immortals of rugby league in Australia are 13 players named as the greatest ever.
To be chosen as an Immortal is the greatest honour a player can receive and it is widely considered that to earn the accolade he needs to have changed the game or had an impact beyond his career. To answer your question not very often as you can see but recently like once every 5-10 years.
