  • @angelinemarsland
    @angelinemarsland 9 місяців тому +3036

    It took me watching the series like 20 times to realize that zuko and Aang’s stories are completely paralleled. They both had to grieve the loss of their bloodlines, they both struggled with making the right choice and committing to their path rather than running away, they both had to learn from all nations like you say. They both “died” to who they were (zuko going through sickness and loss of ego while aang literally died both in the same season), they both had strong ties to the previous avatar! Probably a lot more but it’s really brilliant writing tbh to have the antagonist and protagonist reflect each other to eventually help towards each other’s destinies

      Not to mention it's a like a repeat of the past but made better in the end, and has a unthought family tie, Avatar Roku was best friends with the past fire lord but it didn't end well and caused the war, then in the next generation Zuko becomes the fire lord and becomes friends with Aang the new Avatar and end the war in peace, but technically Zuko is also fighting along side his great grandfather Roku, since Roku is Aang's past life and is still connected to Aang, I love how much Zuko has a strong tie to the Avatar destiny despite not being the Avatar, but shows how important Zuko was too

There's no telling how long they had been around or how long they were friends. But, this is without question why I believe Iroh gained the title "Dragon of the West" due to the unique discipline he created my mastering different techniques from the benders of other elements.
      He literally knew all their forms, created counters, and used forms from rival nations using his element to combat foes he should've otherwise been weak too!
      And everything Zuko learned, he learned from him. Making Zuko not an avatar, but a next master of Irohs unique craft.

      Each of the elements corresponds to a key characteristic necessary for personal development. The elements are paired as opposites because you have to be balanced in everything. Air/earth: one must be light, unattached, and unburdened while remaining firmly rooted in your principles and commitments. Water/fire: one must be fluid, adaptable, and unbothered while maintaining tenacity and a fighting spirit to accomplish ones goals.
      The show is literally just an allegory for becoming a fully developed person.

    Zuko remembering what Iroh taught him about using other bending techniques with the lightening redirection technique is what gave him the edge over Azula in their fight, along with her mental state being what it was. He kept his movements to minimum much like Toph’s earth bending. His stance allowed him to keep his footing and allowed him to counter Azula’s moves. Fun fact: A very similar thing happened with Sokka.
    He was raised as a warrior by his father (Southern Water Tribe).
    He learned be humble and respect his opponent from the Kyoshi Warriors (Earth Kingdom).
    He learned to think his way out of a problem by the Mechanist (not really the Air Nomads, but they have similar mentalities so it counts).
    He was given some training by Chef Arnook and fought alongside him (Northern Water Tribe).
    And he learned swordsmanship from Piandao (Fire Nation)
    Pretty cool, right?

    • @xxeroxxasxx_653
      @xxeroxxasxx_653 5 місяців тому +30

      He learned how to fight from Suki, his girlfriend and Kyoshi Warrior. And also had a spiritual encounter with his other girlfriend that turned into the moon. I have a theory that Sokka would’ve been the Avatar instead of Katara had Aang lived his course of life like he normally should’ve. While it may not make sense because he is a non bender it actually makes full sense at the same time. His inability to bend is actually the result of Aang living longer than he should’ve therefore Sokka wasn’t given the ability to bend anything yet he took on so much responsibility that he shouldn’t have such as basically becoming Chief of his village while his father was gone, learning to fight with the Kyoshi warriors, learning to build the different mechanisms u mentioned with the air nomad type people (in a way Sokka learning these things was the equivalent of him learning the different styles of bending), making contact with the literal moon spirit on top of learning fighting styles from northern water tribe just as u said and the whole learning process he endured with Piandao and making a sword out of a comet which had literal cosmic and spirit energy flowing through it.

      @@xxeroxxasxx_653 Your theory basically means that anyone who's done great feats across the world would've been an avatar candidate, if their current avatar's life didn't follow the timeline the way it did. By that logic Iroh, or any other person doing cool things and learning throughout travelling the four nations was supposed to be an avatar, but it didn't happen for the sole reason of it not happening. It's a cool concept, but it really is more of a fanfiction than a theory.

    • @xxeroxxasxx_653
      @xxeroxxasxx_653 5 місяців тому

      @@4hoofd No u have it wrong my theory is only about Sokka and Sokka only. I mention Sokka being the next reincarnation instead of Katara because 1. Katara ACTUALLY would’ve been the next Avatar after Aang and 2. Both Sokka and Katara are part of the Water tribe which is the exact next thing in the Avatar cycle. Uncle Iroh is literally the furthest thing from being a reincarnation of an Avatar theoretically and literally as far as the cycle goes. And If unless it states it in some written content like comic books or something (I’ve only watched the series so I know little no lore outside of that) then Iroh didn’t go on a journey like that he took inspiration from other cultures but he didn’t exactly explore those cultures and actually be there taught by someone else. The only thing that comes close to that is his time spent within the earth kingdom and his status within the white lotus. Other than that he only fully explored his own culture and learned about becoming spiritual within the real world which is part of the reason he was able to see spirits while he lived. He also understood that violence wasn’t the right way to go about things and that real peace was necessary. And I think his son dying in war along with the fact that his nephew Zuko was related to Roku was what really opened his eyes to what the 4 nations being in harmony meant. Also a theory could absolutely be fan fiction and vice versa.

    This is something I've explained many time before in countless other videos but yeah, Zuko adopts many different styles, stances and patterns from other bending arts to perfect his own. The most common style he uses with his firebending is waterbending which is especially evident in his fight with Katara where he was mimicking her moves and slowly adapting to, and overpowering her. He mixes Aang's style with his own by the time he decides to join Team Avatar and he showcases many Earthbending stances which is what he picked up from Iroh about drawing energy from "The Breath" and keeping a firm stance rather than aggressive, which represents Neutral Jing.

If she was in her proper state of mind… like taking over the dai lee state of mind? She would have absolutely beat zukos ass because of her skills, not raw power… however that comet boost is no joke. Idk if she woulda killed them bc ofc katarra was there, but Zuko losing the agni kai is almost guaranteed in this alternate ending

      @@DJBEAST821you know what I'm thinking? Zuko never wanted to kill her, that's why he'd be in a more defensive position. And his defense got great, more than Azula remembered. Zuko learnt something that Azula doesn't know, even her being one if not the most powerful firebender. (Literally could jet fly with her blue flames. Not even Ozai could)
      So in a Sane-Azula VS Zuko scenario i think the only way she could win is by using some tricky way to mislead Zuko into a trap, same as she did with Katara, she'd do it again perfectly conscious but even better executed.
      However she's a control freak. If Zuko can survive and prove her ineficient, chances are she's gonna feel that she's losing control, hence doing some out-of despair moves, again, like she did with Katara.

      No Zuko at the end solos Azulas as depicted in the final fight despite her mental health. Throughout the whole show, you can tell that Azula was as cruel and cold as her dad but Zuko never had a cold heart to harm his own family. Even after losing his mom and being publicly humilated by his dad and tricked by his sister he still stuck with them. Azula has no problems backstabbing the brother so ofc she fights him head on but he has a strong family tie and lost himself with his internal conflicts. In the last chapter he finds himself again and he finds out his true family is his uncle. He accepts that his sister and dad are not good and he no longer holds back. Azula only knows attack. Zuko learnt how to attack, defend, deflect, and repel. He's learnt not t9 just his own attack power but also use Azulas own force on herself basically like Taichi.

      Well luckily for you! Smelly boy if thats your real name And the rest of the fandoms out there will be blessed to get an animated avatar movie hopefully early next year With the exact voice Actors, story line either takes place after season 3 or time skip and I ain’t talking about the live action teaser they just released, I’m talking about the hardcore nostalgic avatar show I grew up Watching at the tender of 7 when it first came out which I’m forever grateful to have witness alongside the original CN OG shows like teen titan, shawling showdown can’t be bothered to look up the actual name and many more, no need to thank me mr buttface and just spread the good news

    He's the great grandson of the previous avatar, and he hunted the current avatar, plus later trained him while traveling alongside him and his friends.
    This isn't just something that runs in his genes. It's something he learned to do.

    Zuko really had the biggest growth throughout the series. Which is really important since the end has him take in charge of the fire nation, bringing it back to its harmonious glory with the other nations. It's great to see he is able to see wisdom in the other techniques and nations so that will help him. Btw him using techniques doesn't make him the avatar, just adaptable. He still can't use other elements unfortunately

    The man with the Cabbage stand lost so many cabbages. He has been around longer than everyone. Earth Kingdom had the Avatar the ENTIRE time.
    Cabbage stand man is THE AVATAR!

    In Korra, ATLA, and in the expanded universe books it seems like the avatar’s companions are some of the strongest benders of their element (at least of the companions that do bend). I have had the theory that that is because they do get to take inspiration from other elements bending instead of only learning and seeing their fellow benders of their element. In Korra it seems like her companions don’t seem to be as OP compared to other benders of their era and I think that is because republic city has brought together fire, earth, and water benders and this collaboration and cohabitation has expanded beyond that era’s team avatar

    • @daphnetuason6404
      @daphnetuason6404 6 місяців тому +3

      That is so true. The reason why ATLA is so relatable is because each character took up different forms from the other elements and used them to their advantages, whereas Korra is just too modern, just being self absorbed and little to no growth whatsoever.

    • @darkshadowsaver
      @darkshadowsaver 6 місяців тому +4

      Even in cohabitation in korra they've stuck to themselves it wasn't till the brothers that lived in harmony as brothers of different elements. But you also have them expanding their own bending learning from others. Also the fact they didn't need their bending to fight as much unlike war times made them dull to fighting experience they only did the bending games as combat experience. Then you have aang and his gang that was molded by ongoing war and strife. Its like the same with boruto generations of peace forced people to become dull with no combat experience.

    Apparently that spin thing was just Zuko using his breakdancing. There was an Avatar Extras thing that clarified that he used to be part of a breakdancing group
