  • Constantine the Great ruled the Roman Empire from 306 to 337 AD, unifying a divided empire and transferring the capital to Constantinople. He was an effective military leader and strategist, excelling in the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, where, after a divine vision, he adopted Christianity and defeated Maxentius. His victory not only consolidated his power but also marked the beginning of the Christianization of the Roman Empire.
In addition to his military achievements, Constantine was a religious and administrative reformer. He convened the Council of Nicaea in 325, establishing Christian unity with the Nicene Creed. He also promoted religious tolerance with the Edict of Milan and enacted various reforms, such as banning pagan sacrifices and constructing churches.
Constantine spent his later years consolidating his reforms and preparing his empire for his sons. After his death in 337, he was buried in the Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople, leaving a lasting legacy that united church and state and transformed ancient Rome into a Christian empire.
