This Lesson had me laughing so much. It's 1:51 AM and I was laughing about Preston. :D Cannot fault it. I wish, I WISH, I had found these videos much much earlier.

He's great isn't he? Preston I mean. We learn well when we are having fun, and if we are laughing, what better way to learn something wonderful?

I have tried learning shorthand before with textbooks to no avail. This video series truly has been most helpful. Today's lesson in particular was a favourite as I observed myself gaining speed, confidence and making fewer and fewer errors. You're doing a fantastic job and I am so very grateful to you for making this such a fun and encouraging journey✨

Agreed Jo has taught me a lot from just these few videos. I tried several books and online courses that cost 150+ pounds and this set of videos, BY FAR, Have been the most helpful. 🤣

Thanks for the video. It makes me realise how many words and sentences have the r blend in them.
No mention of a Curly Wurly. NCTJ students probably don’t know what I am going in about. 😊

That used to be my son's favourite Colin. Both words would have been excellent examples of when we DON'T use the blend.

    A couple of questions:
    1. Why doesn’t ‘closest’ use the disjointed s for the double s sound?
    2. Why was ‘Man’ not one single swooping curve like ‘when’ is?

“Closest” could indeed have been written with the disjoined “s”. I would automatically have written “closes” that way, but chose not to do so either “closest”. But you are correct - it would have also been accurate. “Man” - now I NEVER write this with the MN blend, but again, it is an option. I think it is probably because there is often another letter(s) following MN, in words like “meant” “mend” “means” “manner” etc so that it not a blend I use very much. Again, it would be correct to do so with “men” or “mean” though, or any other word with just “MN”. Also, with “when” (WN blend) writing it any other way makes a poorly defined outline. Where exactly does the “W” end and the “N” begin if we don’t write the “swoop”? Whereas “MN” is perfectly defined. Thanks for your excellent questions. 😊

Hello - thank you so much for making these videos. That special outline for "had been" is new to me (shown here at 22:42) can you explain it to me, please? It's a sort of HD then a B laying on it's back.

      Hi Richard.
I’m not aware of there being any official rule about the B laying on its back, but from my studies, I consider it related to ease of use when writing at speed. Not only is it easier to “keep going” and wrap the end of the first word right into that “B” but (from my perspective) it saves a stroke and one does not have to lift their hand either to complete. Moreover, that outline saves “vertical space” by not extending the B into the line below.
You can use this format with “Could Be,” “To be able to,” “Should be,” etc. Very handy.

Also the this video appears to cut out the music to transcribe to… ?🧐

The music stops when the whiteboard is full of outlines. It sounds as if you love “Glory Days” as much as I do! Play it from your own device so that it continues to the very end - and keep writing - your pad has more space than my whiteboard. 👍
