    my favorite early 80's R&B songs would be...
    just be good to me - sos band
    and the beat goes on - the whispers
    give me the night - george benson
    early in the morning - the gap band
    ain't nobody - rufus with chaka khan

      Lol, thanks for watching! No one has heard every song regardless of how popular it may be in some circles. But that's why I brought this song to the channel; its a staple for me and I wanted to share it with someone who isn't as familiar with this genre (just as its been done vice versa).

    • @Brax1982

    • @panda9144
      @panda9144 4 роки тому +3

      Brax1982 You must have a tin ear. You can’t tell the difference between the Beach Boys versus the Who or Led Zeppelin versus earth wind and fire? They all had their own distinct sound and styles. You must be young.

    • @Brax1982
      @Brax1982 4 роки тому

      @@panda9144 That's different genres, I thought we were still talking about funk-based bands. You should be able to figure out how "young" I am. You are an eagle, after all.

    • @Brax1982
      @Brax1982 4 роки тому

      @Shock Right. Disco is not based in funk and this song does not sound funky, at all. How silly of me to think there could be a connection.
      It was not easier to be different when far less genres existed and some sounds were not even invented, yet. That's reasonable.
      And yes, I don't know anything about music after listening to thousands of songs and dozens of genres. Makes sense.
      I know at least more about it than I ever knew about Mortal Kombat (except how to spell it).

    • @Brax1982
      @Brax1982 4 роки тому

      @Shock Ah, the millenial shaming...that's the problem with you "old" people. Innovation and change is only commendable when it's from the "good ol' days". The young whippersnappers are all dirty lazy uncultured gamers that succumb to modern capitalism. They don't know "our" music, so they don't know music, period. How could they possibly be inaccurate about something once. Surely they must be idiots all the time! And now get off my lawn! ...oh wait, that's YOUR way of arguing.
      Let's try this my way...
      Sils brought up something completely unrelated, apples and oranges comparison (another generalization based on generation, obviously), so I navigated back to the ballpark, at least. I admit I was slightly wrong. Even listened to the whole thing, again. This particular song is not exactly disco. It's not prototypical funk, of course. But you must be joking if you are telling me there's no hint of it. This is also not too far away from disco. It's closer to those than to R&B or soul. Based on this song, they were clearly leaning the way of funk/disco at this point in time. Probably in a move to go more commercial, because R&B/Soul are (were?) different charts. I don't know.
      I am not familiar with a ton of EW&F, granted. Like everyone else, I know their hits. September is totally disco. I don't remember anything else, right now. Based on that, I should not make generalizations, that is true. But who cares? Doesn't hurt one of the best-selling groups of all time. Besides, there's warriors like yourself setting the record straight, even on here. You could do it in a less grumpy fashion, though.
      FYI: I barely qualify as a millenial, I don't give a shit about Black Friday, I haven't been a "gamer" in at least a decade and I also "regret" that I even pointed out the spelling, because that is indeed silly. Had to find something that I actually know about what you accuse me of knowing inside-and-out...

    You can‘t go wrong with EWF. I love the whole late 70’s funk vibe. I recently discovered Brothers Johnson from that era and love it. The vocals are weak but everything else is pretty solid. The bass player is a beast. Here's a link to a video of Ain't We Funkin' Now playing on a spinning turntable. It really creates the mood for that era. ua-cam.com/video/dYKNPMpPMFo/v-deo.html This particular version has an extra long outtro that I don't care for, though, because it's too long.

    Gratitude from Earth, Wind & Fire is a great live album. The introduction and crowd reaction will give you chills. I tend to listen to the keys first, and Larry Dunn is great. I think that Phil Collins is a fan because he’s worked with Philip Bailey and the horn section in the past.

The combo with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards was magic. The grooves they could come up with will and forever be simply the best.
    Justin have you ever heard of House Music? The Funk and Disco craze in the 70's was the music played in the dance clubs at the time. JPMP OK. Twitter is not for me :-) I drop a group for you that you might like, might not. Heavy progressive new rock. Motion Device from Canada. The song I would like to see you reaction on is a whopping 21:12 min long (as a homenaje to Rush 2112) Infinite Wave
      ua-cam.com/video/XwAWxVICe7M/v-deo.html
      The first 6 min mysterious Pink Floydish, the coming 8 minutes a bit old school Black Sabbath vibes (though female singer) and last 7 minutes an opus in beauty. You might like it a lot or not 😎

    I just found y'all and I've been binging your videos. I really like that y'alls taste is so different from my own. I'd love to hear your thoughts on neutral milk hotel. The song In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is the most single-like song to listen to, but Two Headed Boy and Two Headed Boy Pt. 2 are the best in my opinion.

    Was this an edited version? Seems shorter than the version i listen to. Still...what a fucking tune, eh lads?
    Interesting fact: Philip Bailey, the singer, had to stretch an elastic band around his balls to get his voice that high. No pain, no gain.

      Manna. No Philip Bailey didn’t have to stretch a rubber band around his balls to get his voice that high. That’s called falsetto. It’s a singing style that allows your voice to go into a higher level in the vocal register. It’s a very difficult thing to do.

    The red hot chili peppers do not play funk music. Harold melvin & the blue notes is strictly r&b. Funk is like the fatback band, bootsy collins, ohio players, parliament & funkadelic too many name. EWF started off the doing jazz music then crossover doing r&b funk pop even fusing rock universal band SMH.

    Harry Melvin and the Blue Notes were NOT funk. They were doo wop first and soul/R&B later on.

    The disco kind of funk never did much for me, in general. September is a banger. This one, not so much.
    Update: This is not disco. Sorry, if that offended you.

      Brax1982: Thank you for noting this is not disco. I looked all down the comments to see if anyone would know the truth that EW&F is not disco. I grew up during the 70's and I used to listen to disco all night because at that time that was pretty much all that was on the radio after 10 p.m. Disco was a very monotonous type music and EW&F was anything but that.

    Cover don't sound like this. I will say a heard a very good cover understand, they wrote, produce and vocals can't be duplicated. if you can't write it, produce it, it don't count. Fantancy 8 plus. Listen more to the production. EWF anin't never and will never be a 5. You don't have a clue.
