    The preservation of momentum would also be an issue. Bound to the earth by gravity, we are currently being spun at the speed of the earths rotation - 1,000mph. Assuming we do not stop spinning with the earth, If the earth paused its rotation, we would continue to move at that same rate, slamming into the nearest wall at 1,000mph.

    If I'm not mistaken they missed the most important part of this question. The earth is moving at 1000 miles per hour therefore we are also moving at 1000 miles per hour (this is why we dont feel the earth spinning) and if the earth immediately stopped we would still be traveling at 1000 miles per hour and we would be instantly killed by that amount of force. Think about it like slamming on the brakes in a car. The car stops but you keep going forward until your seat belt stops you but in this scenario you are travelling at 1000 miles per hour and there is no seat belt and the amount of force put on your body would kill you instantly.

    Tim, have you ever had a circular pool in your backyard and decided to make a whirlpool with a bunch of your mates by swimming one direction? If you have, have you ever decided to stop after a certain amount of time and try to swim the other way while the water is pushing against you?
    Think of the Earths atmosphere as the water. The water doesn't just stop when you decide to. It takes time for the water to slow down.
    That's basically what would happen with the atmosphere. Everything else stops but the wind wouldn't.

    The video kept mentioning wind that would kill you but the fact is that if the earth stopped spinning that you would be thrown east at a 1000mph give or take not by the wind but your momentum, like standing on a bus and it crashing your momentum carries on, no one would survive. Professor Neil DeGrass Tyson has spoken about this on a few occasions now

    Tim i know you failed geography but here's why the wind stays and is huge. Think of the wind as an object, Newtons laws of motion says an object in motion will stay in motion unless a force acts upon it. In our situation the Earth is stopping, the wind is still going like the Earth is spinning, the air already moves with the Earth.

  • @musicalglaceon2245
    @musicalglaceon2245 Рік тому

    so btw the wind keeps that speed because its already at that speed, we are just moving with it. so it isnt fast relative to us, but if we were to stop the winds would be moving at the speed of earths rotation. its the same theory as to why being passed by a car going 60 can look like its doing 5 miles an hour, relativity.

    all the wind aside. objects in motion, tend to stay in motion. if the earth came to a sudden stop, everything would keep going at the same speed. everything but maybe micro organisms would die instantly. youd be launched through the air at 1000 miles an hour.

    So remember when they in the video "that it began when high speed collusions occured?“now imagine that it stops. Due to the earth spinning fast and the wind has no "direction"to spin ,it carries the Earth's rotational direction.

    If anything abruptly happens to the earth, we will cease to exist. The fact that the earth is the roundest ball that you imagine is crazy but real. If you hold a marble, it would probably feel perfect but the peaks and valleys on that marble would make Everest seem like the grassy knoll. If something managed to stop the earth, we wouldn’t be alive to experience the wind anyway.
