This video is meant to both show one way to install a swing bearing while having fun along the way. One of the best things about our business is meeting super people like you, who love their families and the great country we live in! Thumbs up, thumbs down, kudos or criticism, we love hearing from you because we live in a FREE COUNTRY! God bless!
You guys did a great job.I don't know how much safer you could have gotten unless you used a remote control robot. You took necessary precautions and finished the job with no damage to machine or human. This is the nature of the hard work you do. KEEP UP THE SPLENDID WORK AND THANKS FOR SHARING.
The local Kubota dealer wanted upwards of $7,000 to fix my little 4½ ton KX 121-3 excavator that has too much play in it. They said could take 30-35 hours. Sounds a little high to me. Now could be because they have 12 people handling the paper work generated by 4 or 5 repair techs. I cancelled my work order on it.
Good video , i have a mini excavator, nothing wrong with the swing bearing but i need to change the rubber tracks. It's on a komatsu pc40 just a 12,000 pound mini excavator but i am not realy a mechanic, but i do have some experience...not much though...iam pretty sure i can change the tracks if i can find a video on it ...i did help put a track on after it got a rock in the track and caused it to come off , the track wasn't adjusted right it was loose and i didnt know how to tighten it at the time
Please support the slew gear with more than a pry bar when fingers are gping under it, so easy for a pry bar to slip. Lift it block it, then silicone it.
Cool stuff. I would have thought they would have dragged the carriage out from under it to work on it so you aren't working in a pinch point if things went south while trying to clean it. Also , is that whole area inside the ring gear packed with grease or just applied to the ring gear?
Definitely a lot of debate if you should always roll the undercarriage out. Probably risk both ways. Grease was applied in all areas. Thanks for the comment!
Interesting subject, spoiled by the music and jokes. But keep at it and I'm sure your videos will improve. It takes a lot of effort to do this stuff, so hats off to you for having a go.
I noticed that you didn’t replace the small gear you should always replace them both because they are worn out in the same manner unless you did and I didn’t see it in the video
I have a feeling they did not. Great catch. The next swing bearing video we do we will make sure that is done! Thanks for the feedback. How is life where you are???!! =)
A shop uses what they have for safety and developed out of necessity.Still its risky to do a job like this unless its at the manufacturer where they have the equipment designed specifically for this job.I cringed a bit at some of the things done. The block between the track and the support beam showing up late.Editing may have made some things look worse. When reaching in like during cleaning I personally make long handled scrapers,I dont reach in there. And putting a finger under the bearing to spread silicone? The other guys bar slips and its your finger. Not I,that is why God made sticks.I did appreciate the video.A different approach this shop has for their situation.I appreciate the mechanics skill and knowledge and their serious approach to a dangerous job.The teamwork was impressive which is crucial to safety.I laerned alot from the video and appreciate that.I like how reasons were explained by the mechanic. Thanks
you are not alone. We've had a few people mention safety issues with this way of changing out the bearing. Thanks for your opinion. It is highly regarded Matt.
I noticed that you didnt replace the rotator gear itself , it will be as worn as the swing bearing , was it replaced or did you forget to add it in the clips , cheers good video .
Hey great video guys. I bought a jcb 8065 excavator. Unknown to me the slewing motor gear was all chewed up. The swing bearing ring gears appears fine? I have measured slack in the bearing with a dial indicator from the track frame to the underside of main body at 15thousanths. That seems pretty good to me? What could cause this and would you try to just replace slewing motor gear? That is what i am planning. Anybody ?
a good mfg of equipment would buy a slewing gearbox with a pinion gear that is slightly softer then the hardened teeth of the slewing bearing. Also the pinion shaft of the gearbox should be male spline and the pinion gear is easily replaced at a low cost.
Can't imagine any silicone sticking around and surviving that pressure. .! ..I guess some could cure near the edges and maybe down in the fine grooves of the machining finish
@@Conequipparts yes sir 🙌grease is key to long bearing life you got to put at least 10 gallon on that machine of grease in there before you reinstall . Swing gear cant get it from the Swing bearing.....
I've done lots of these bearings interesting approach to it the place i believe you went wrong is the undercarriage should come out from under the machine and the bearing surface machined done it without machining and the bearing will not last good luck
Great response. This was the first time we saw the job performed this way. What do you think the advantages might be? God bless you and your family in 2019!!
Not all bolts are done up to standard spec Depending what they'd use for Manufacturer specs are anyways first go to Failing that then use a torque table
Because a torque table gives you use the optimal torque for that bolt, not for the place you put it in. A torque table may be deceiving for some applications
1. kill the music, it's terrible 2. kill the humor, serious subject needs a serious voice, this isn't comedy. there are several comments on safety, does the CAT manual offer any standards on how this should be done or is every shop on its own?
Thank you for the feedback Henry! We truly appreciate your participation in helping us do a better job with these videos. What type of work do you do? How is your 2019 going so far? God bless!
So not due to wear but ingress of crap? Could better design of regular washing have prevented this? A cab of silicone doesn't exactly inspire confidence! Both the substance itself and no certainty about how much to put on and where. Why not a gasket -- rubber, plastic, copper? Breathtaking job.
well like coneequip said safety above all else!!! but lots of cribbing & at least other piece of equipment to help move the parts around. clean it before you start then move it from where you cleaned it so your not laying in the crud!!
Thanks for the comments. The mechanics didn't want their names shown so we obliged. Trust me, it would have made my editing easier without having to add that!
You guys worked with very low safety standard, how brave you are when you put your head under the cabin and it's very dangerous (unsafe action). This baby excavator look so cute for me but still dangerous for you if you work like that. I replaced Slewing Bearing of 5230 Caterpillar excavator in 2006 and never ever seen anyone put their head under the cabin like you did. Please do your job safely maaannnn, today is not your last day to do this job because you still have another day to do the same job like this. Think about your wife and children who always waiting for you comeback with the same condition as when you go to work and never ever make them worries about your safety.
Thank you for this thoughtful and informative response. I can't imagine how amazing it is to install a swing bearing on a 5230. Thank you for your hard work and kind words. God bless.

Can't hear what the guys talking about half the time because the music is about to blow the speakers out. I don't get what's up with people and their rediculous sounds and levels on UA-cam.
I don't feel the supports were adequate. For crane failure with that guy leaned in over the track, I lost a nephew that way. I think I would build special supports for this job that could work for all types excavators. I never realized how dangerous this would look to me. I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic, and I have done jobs like this myself. we would have charged a couple thousand just for work, not the bearing.
Thank you for commenting. So sorry for your loss. The crew had supports all around. The crane was only another precaution. Certainly no job is 100% safe but this was as safe as rolling the undercarriage out from under the machine.

How much does the bearing cost ?
