    So I decided to cover my room with wallpaper. I started practicing in a dressing and it turned out to be quite good except some edges that were visible. Now I've started doing my room and, for some reason, you can see the edges from different angles. I did half my room before seeing this video. I can't wait to get home from work and start applying this method of yours. I'll get back with a feedback after I finish the job. Thanks!

      @elgringocongafas1099 4 роки тому +5

      @@Potbellypigg Hi, I've since finished my room. Well, all I can say is that it worked out very well. I'm applying the glue only on the wallpaper itself and no longer on the wall, and the fold up method he uses keeps the glue from drying up. To be honest, I made it so good that I can barely see the edges. Though, I'm not starting from the middle of the wall, like in this video. I find it more easier to start from one end, rather than the middle of it. The quality of the wall you're applying the wallpaper to matters a lot also. You get better at it just by practice. I can see how I got better at it just by starring at different parts of the walls, lol.

    Great tutorial, successfully wallpapered the bedroom after watching this. We had heavy paper and found that two sets of hands were a must getting it in place properly. Struggled at first with applying the paste-- our paper required heavy-duty paste, and it was not as easy to apply as they made it look in the video. Had to get around two window mouldings, and that went surprisingly well considering I was making that part up as I went (wish the video included an example of that too!). Overall, I feel like I gained a new skill that I'll probably avoid ever trying to use again. I imagined wallpapering was a lot of work, but it was way more work than I had even imagined.

    Some people say apply adhesive to wall and not the paper? Which is it?

    • @bandq
      @bandq  4 місяці тому

      Hi, there. Thanks for getting in touch! The answer to this question will all depend on the type of wallpaper you're using. Some wallpaper comes ready pasted, some will require the adhesive to be applied to the wall and others require the adhesive to be applied directly to the paper. We'd suggest checking the instructions on the specific wallpaper you want to use. Hope this helps!

    So question. I understand I need to find the middle of my feature wall and draw a line down it to align one side of the wallpaper with BUT am I right in thinking my first strip of wallpaper will be off centre and actually to the side of the middle?
    I have watched many videos and maybe I'm being pedantic about it but no one clarifies and I have never wallpapered before!

    • @foxfur8327
      @foxfur8327 5 років тому +5

      Wall papering is far easier than you think if you buy prepasted paper and the right supplies to go with it. Ask the dealer which supplies you need. You don't need a large table for prepasted paper - just a floor. All it takes is a little patience. Vinyl paper is easier to hang because it doesn't rip easily. It also can be removed easily years later and doesn't get dirty or fingerprinted easily.
      When buying wallpaper, be sure to look for words such as vinyl, stripable and, most of all, check the repeat pattern. If you have a repeat pattern that matches the side piece only every 24 inches instead of 12, you will have to discard and buy much more paper, so the smaller the repeat pattern, the better.
      Also, if you are a beginner, the easiest papers to match are plain or vertically lined paper such as wood designs, cloth designs, etc. Print is harder to carefully match and generally has a larger repeat pattern.
      Another thing you may prefer to try as a beginner is to just put a decorative wood strip horizontally about 48 inches from the bottom of the floor and wallpaper only the bottom half of the wall. A plain non papered upper wall is also easier to hang pictures on because paint versus print is less likely to conflict with paintings you may wish to hang.
      Also, if you ever want to change the paper design, it's easier to strip the bottom half of the wall than the whole thing up to the ceiling, which would require the use of a stool. If you should goof up a strip, you also have a smaller piece to discard and replace on only half a wall.
      The thing I most hate removing are the cheap decorative 6 inch rolls of wallpaper people sometimes put near the top of the ceiling instead of the centre. They are usually harder to remove because of their cheap quality and the height at which they were installed.
      It's also best to NOT use print on the bottom half of the wall but rather designs with no print, such as a wood or material look. This is because not only will the smallest repeat pattern use less paper, but what if your pattern repeats only every 24 inches and your wall below the wood divider is 49 inches high instead of 48? That means you would waste a lot of paper to cover that extra inch on every strip. Wallpaper is beautiful and can make any house go from boring to pretty, cozy, and interesting.
      Although it's not necessary to paint walls before papering, I like to do it several months before anyway, so if I ever want to peel it off I don't have to repaint. Not only that, but wallpaper better sticks to a painted wall and is easier to remove than wallpaper on a wall with defects. Some people today are still fearful of wallpaper because of the cheap papers of yesteryear which were hard to remove. Just make sure to not paper too soon after painting or you could end up damaging the paint with it. Wallpaper should be used as a design rather than a hidden coverup for cracked or flawed walls which can cause a lot of problems later.
      This post is from an amature wallpaperer who has done a few walls. It's actually fun for those who are patient and like things done right. You don't have to be an expert at all.

    • @richardsmythe4864
      @richardsmythe4864 2 роки тому +2

      The answer is shown at 0:50. It appears you would find the centre point of your wall then move half the width of your roll to the left and mark your vertical line. Your first sheet would go right of this line and be in the centre of the wall.
