Great video! The best 1DX Review/Preview I've seen so far. Someone who actually USED The camera and knows what they are doing, lol. Not just looking at specs and saying it sucks/etc. Also you showed/talked about features no one else knew about/mentioned. Great presentation "as well". haha.
Thanks so much! Means a lot to me :)
exactly
Dont be coughing on cameras...lol
Lol rob love it...
I love when someone actually uses the camera in the field, instead of just repeating specs we can read ourselves..
that's what I'm going for!!
Wow, what a great review! You showed several things noone else has even mentioned. Beautiful images too. Thanks for the time you put into this review.
Thanks, I tried to show the practical side of it since most people will just read off a spec sheet.
Thanks for ..Such a great review (by an authentic person, a real photographer) .I am waiting to upgrade from another brand and was confused if Mirrorless or Latest flash chip DSLR and this is the one searching for.thx
Thank You for the review. Vanessa I wish you all the best for 2020 and Rob AS WELL !
Thank you!
Aww thank you so much 😊
Great video of a amazing camera !!!
i love canon for about 20 years! !!!
At one point I was just waiting for the as wells and forgot to listen to the review..ha. I wondered how soon you would do this review! So helpful to see your off-camera light use with it AS WELL!
Thanks and haha I’ve infected you with the “as well” syndrome.
You’re the 🐐. Canon’s still the 🐐. I’m ordering this right now and I’m a self proclaimed 🐐. Good talk
Thanks for the support as always J. I knew you were going to love this camera.
Thanks for the samples with high ISO. As a sports shooter, ISO is important to me. To date, I've been fine using ISO 5000 but haven't had the need to go higher. Now, sounds like I can move higher with confidence.
You’ll definitely enjoy that and the 20fps as a sports photographer. I don’t shoot sports, so I don’t know the correct term for this, but the warping in say a golf club while photographing at high speed in burst mode has been reduced.
A UA-cam reviewer that actually shoots beautiful images! Impressed & Subbed!
Hope you chanel grows strong guys, keep it up.
Aw thanks that means a lot to me!!
Finally someone that is a true professional giving examples and scenarios that happen in true working situations and use the gear for what it can do for you and allow you to focus on your craft, you are "GANSTA" mam! Kudos from Los Angeles...thank you for the video
That means a lot to me! Thanks!!
Thanx. Very good review
My pleasure 😇
wowwww i love it great video 💞💞😍
Thanks so much 😊
Thanks for a fantastic, thorough and useful review!
My pleasure 😇
I’m speechless. I don’t need it but I want it 😂 oh canon. You kill me.
THEGAS syndrome is strong with you😉
@@VanessaJoy Does it record or exit to SSD disc?
Remember you have to pay an extra $1200 or so for two decent memory cards. That would mean $6500 + $1200 = 😱
bird271828 yup - I did mention that. Those not that expensive in my experience
Kraft I believe so
Thanks for this review. It was informative and humorous as well.
Glad you liked!
as well again hahah
I enjoyed the review, and I love that camera.
Thanks for watching!
Vanessa thank you for the awesome video explantion !! :)
My pleasure 😇
You like it then! Great review and images,I enjoyed watching :))
Thanks so much 😊
Good stuff. Awesome.
Thanks for the visit
Great Review with real time pics....Thank you
my pleasure! Thanks for watching :-)
I’m just glad to see a review on a dslr , it seems like the only reviews on UA-cam anymore are only about Mirrorless! I own both DSLR and mirrorless, but the features in this Camera are amazing, hopefully they’ll pass it on to their EOS-R lineup! Great review!!!
Thanks so much. Those are my hopes “as well” 😊
Does anyone know if there will be a autofocus on shooting video 4/5.5k60 update? That’s the only gripe I had with this camera.
Just heard you on the Daily Fro on my commute home from work. Great content!
Thanks so much!!
My treasure !!!!!! I need this camera “ as well “ !!!!! 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
I have to admit. The video quality shocked me. It’s excellent.
You know it’s good when you think so😘
Was this shot with the 1dx m3?
Always a "Joy" to watch your reviews Vanessa. I've got mine on pr-order. You always present your reviews in a bare bones/grass roots kinda way! I love that!. Hope you make your way to Toronto one day for some photo workshops !!! Take care.
I would definitely love to come to Toronto to teach! Ask Profoto Canada and your local photo store :) that’s how I get places
Wow.. the best review ever ☺☺
Aw yay!!!!
Good review, is that silent mode electronic shutter only in live view or does it work when photographing through the view finder?
Live view :)
I need help I’ve got an r6 I do not like the focusing. I have purchased an r3 but my heart is still with the 1dx mark 3. Is it worth getting one? I’m not a fan of mirrorless and before you say anything I know the r3 is better but a 1dx is 1dx if you know what I mean?
So it does take a minute to get used to the focusing… it’s VERY different from a dslr - and I absolutely get you because I personally used the 1DX (and ii and iii) for years. Try the settings I use in this video and see if you like it: How to Setup Focus Settings for Canon Mirrorless Cameras like EOS R5 + R6 + R7 + R10
ua-cam.com/video/k2N7FKVKFYA/v-deo.html
Wow. You have information here I haven't seen anywhere else. Nice job!
Aw thanks! Curious what info that is??
@@VanessaJoy I watched it again. Things like the ETTL modes, network tab, pre-loading of metadata, time-sync and clarity slider are features I don't think I've EVER heard mentioned before in a review. It's great that you're a working professional that puts out great work!
Now I'm remembering the review you did on the automatic flash awhile back. Again you did a great job, especially given its intended audience but I thought the negative comments were annoying. Canon's trying to ease people into a more complex form of photography and some people were poo-pooing it. Ah well...
Awesome review! Really glad it was about how the camera handle "wedding light". It's the reason I have one on order. I'll now have a 1 DX Mark ii as a second camera - should I sell it and get a second Mark III? I usually work with as a single shooter and have 2 different lenses mounted on 2 cameras. My second camera up until now was a 5Diii. Love your photos and style!
So glad you liked it. Personally I always have my previous camera as my back up camera because I’ve never really needed to use my back up camera so I don’t find it beneficial to buy a 2nd Camera brand new that I’ll likely never use
Love the review Vanessa!! Look forward to getting one. Question about the HEIF format. Is their any photo editing software that accepts this format to edit??
I’m not entirely sure but I’d imagine most editing programs will be making sure it’s in future updates
lightroom and PS don't (at least the version i'm using (older version - cant speak for the subscription CS). However, if editing it is a must, just open the file in windows 10 (has as HEIF/C converter), click "save", and it returns it automatically to a jpeg format. Then edit all you like (of course, in that case, you'd likely just use jpeg to start if RAW isn't your default.)
Nice job. Beautiful wedding photos as well.
Thanks so much!
I liked this video as well!!
Haha. I see what you did there
Great review, it would be brilliant if someone (hint, hint) would do a comparison of the 1DX3 and R5 for stills photographers who occasional shoot very short videos to extract stills from.
PLEASE!
I don’t need it but I want it. Thanks for the video!
Isn’t that the story with all our camera gear😊
Thank you for the video, Vanessa. Love from Malaysia. Btw, can you fix the “posing inspiration guide” link. Seems to be broken. Thank you!
Fixed for
You! Thanks 😊 vanessa-adams.mykajabi.com/email-capture-4e2afca0-5db6-4b5b-8b58-ba9fb9a732cc
Thank you so much @@VanessaJoy . Love your contents.
This is a great video. So, I know with the 5D Mark IV shooting in live view gives you better low light performance (idk why, that's what the manual says), I wonder if this is also true for the 1DX Mark III, As Well?
Matt Wood yes it does. It’s -4 in the viewfinder and -6 in the live view. Check out around the 8 minute mark
Finally, got my mark iii and exploring it and I'm loving it already.
Yayyyy
Wowwww - I’m still holding out hope for a better mirrorless in the next year or so but this looks like a beautiful camera!
It definitely is and is much more resilient over the mirrorless systems.
Love the edit of this video “As Well” lol. Although I’m not a canon user, i feel jealous of how good canon is in bring awesome lenses for both DSLR and mirrorless “As Well” :)
Right? Def a hybrid feel
First time watching a video on this channel. Vanessa is so well articulated, and clear. Glad I stumbled in.
PS: That counter bing was loud and sharp...haha
Thanks for joining!
Love me some Vanessa. Thank you girl 🙌🏾
Thank YOU!
Will HEIF have the same ability to be used in editing software? Or do we know yet? Does RAW have anything to worry about?
LR and CO need to update to be compatible with this raw version I believe but that’s typical. I’m sure most editing programs will start working with HEIF as it becomes more popular
In 2023. Brand new R6 mark ii vs used excellence codition 1Dx mark iii for $3100 USD. Which one will you recommend? Is 1Dx mark iii outdated in 2023? Thanks
R6 mark ii, easily. The focusing system is phenomenal. I'm buying one
Its march 2022 and with so many options out there now something is pulling me to this camera. I shoot 80 percent film so all this new 40fps nonsense doesnt faze me i shoot sport with a t90 manual focus 4fps with a 400mm no worries i say that to say this. Nobody makes a pro level dslr like canon the build quality and sheer size and a bit of nostalgia is whats drawing me to this beast in 2022 over a sony a1 or even the r5 or r3 even though i do value more resolution for large inkjet prints. Great review btw👏
A doer's review. Lovely. About the HEIF format, can Adobe process it? Or do you have to port it through DPP? Does it have IBIS???
Your output is classy. Liked&subscribed.
Thanks so much!! Heif I believe adobe can process - I actually didn’t test that though. No IBIS, just electronic for video. And thanks :) classy is a
Pretty nice compliment :)
@@VanessaJoy I have a weak spot for intelligent women who do things well.
Nice video and cute and funny " as well" 😊
Thanks as well 😉
👍👍👍 Great ...Camera....Canon the Best
Yassssss
All your photos are beautiful...
Thanks so much 😊
Very very attractive camera And very Good Quality
Right?!
Does anyone know which retailer is most likely to fulfill 1DX3 orders first & fastest?
It's all regulated I believe, and based on preorders too. I go to Adorama :-) ---> adorama.rfvk.net/LBG23
Great review with so beautiful photos from this camera, the best of the best!
This camera is for the sport, action pros, who never accept lags of image from the view finder. The display rendering speed of today mirrorless EVF still has noticeable lag, which is an issue with action shooters. So, mirrorless camera cannot be the best choice for sport photography. It seems Canon has made a good decision to release this DSLR camera, the 1DX Mark III, to be well prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
They definitely had the sport photogs in mind!
I love your channel
thanks so much for being here!
Nice job guys. I am still shooting films do.

Is fun :)
I love that camera strap! What brand is it
It’s soooo good. It’s from Kawa Pro Gear
Awesome video review, almost enough to make me want to switch back to Canon, but I just bought a new nikon and have a bunch of lenses... I'll refrain, either way a hell of a camera.
That it is 😊
Great video. I didn’t notice the “as well” before till you mentioned it, but even then I don’t think she is using it that often. Its nit like using the “umm” word. I still think she is very articulate
Haha ummm is so hard to train out of someone vocab. I try very hard not to say it!
I've always wanted a 1D body but now that I'm mirrorless (EOS R bodies) I can't go back.
Waiting for Canon's EOS R replacement and hopefully it will have *dual card slots* "as well".
I probably wouldn’t go back if I were you either, but i hope this camera is a good indication of what to come next for mirrorless.
and IBIS
@MN Airsoft - I can't wait! i was hoping it would be available by April but it looks like it's still in development right now.
Curious if it will have *two* CFexpress slots or one CFexpress and one SD. I guess we'll find out when they show it at WPPI.
All you need is 12mp! 20 is perfect for this full frame/crop sensor.
Agreed
Please how can I have one of these camaras. Thanks
Love it’s.
Thanks 😊
As a wedding photographer do you still make prints and enlargements? If yes, how big do you make your prints? Is a myth for you that high megapixels give you better image quality? Great video!
Gerardo Bello LPS I definitely do! I usually go up to a 24x36. I could go higher but since most of my clients live in Manhattan they don’t have the wall space for it. High megapixels don’t necessarily give better image quality :)
@@VanessaJoy Thank you.
those photo are just WOW! many will still complain about this camera though..
There is no shortage of complainers in the world😉 thank you for the compliment.
Fantastic camera ! Only focus shift issue
Ther 5D4 had IPTC, builtin bluetooth and wifi, and the raw processing. Maybe not clarity. Also had face tracking in LiveView and ITR AF Face priority thorough the OVF. But everyone had been so hung up on 4K.
Michael Ma yeah not the same IPTC at all. Very upgraded and it has face tracking but it is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the face, eye and head detection for exposure and focus that this has. Not even close to the accuracy. 4k is a big deal for videographers as TVs become main stream and streaming in 4k too. They have to keep up
Not at all. I shoot a Nikon FM2 film camera. The images are amazing. Keep in mind its never about the camera its the photographer behind the camera that makes the difference
ISO 819 200, what do you use that for, Black holes?? But I still want it :)
Lmao. Wait you don’t shoot black
Holes?
Very nice camera
The best reviewer Canon 1DX Mark III
Thanks. :) i appreciate that!
16mp already rivals Iso 50 B&W Techpan film. The new 20MP outperforms all known 135mm film stock so there is no reason why anyone is complaining. Oh the shutter is definitely quieter than the 1dx.
Question: Couldn't the Smart Controller inadvertently move your focus point when you use back button focus?
I don’t use bbf but You can turn the smart controller on and off I believe, as well as control the sensitivity, so it may take some getting used to but I don’t think it’ll be a problem
@@VanessaJoy I use bbf but am intrigued by the functionality of the smart controller and would hope to be able to use both features together. I will likely purchase the Mark II version of the EOS R and I am betting it will also incorporate this smart controller. Thanks for the reply all the same.
I feel like she says however a lot as well LOL love the review.
Well, if Canon can get the r5 not over heat and what would you need when the weather turns crappy... This camera will keep you shooting...
Ahh damn I had to go and watch this 😂 now I don’t know if I should stay DSLR or go Mirrorless 😅 newbie problems.
Going to be taking some photos of people and their animals on darkish days indoors and not being allowed a flash 🙄 so ISO range and Autofocus is huge for me.
…. Yeah I’m randomly swimming through your videos 😅
Ergh forgot to say silent 😑
😅 now back to your fabulous videos 😘
I watched the entire video to the end just to find out how many “as well “ were used. Great tactic. Now I’m interested in this new Canon model that wasn’t even on my radar.
Mwahahahaha LoL. Jk
I’m confused, I am told this does camera body not have in body image stabilization, but you state that it does? Does it really?

You're fine. If you want to count repetitive phrases, count "and so" in a Dustin Abbott video. 🤣
So glad to know there’s others out there like me.
I hope to own this camera, I'm personally still using DSLRs because the mirrorless equivalent is just too darn expensive at the moment to migrate over to and DSLR lenses are cheaper in comparison. And this body is more rugged and shoots high fps with AF tracking better. If the sensor is improved as you mentioned, then definitely it will be in my sights.
Took the words right out of my mouth😊
Great videoes
Glad you think so!
Too or as well? Which is correct?
Both?
For a wedding photographer that use this camera, you must be a very busy very wanted wedding photographer to use this for weddings because of its' price. This camera was made for sports and wildlife photographers, so I only know of a few wedding photographers that use the 1Dx for weddings, and those that I know are the ones that shoot for Hollywood celebs and the elite/rich here in Southern California.
I’ve been doing wedding photography for 18 years or so, so yes to both of those things :)
I never noticed the "As Wells" before - But what I did notice this time was the annoying chimes every time Vanessa said As Well - Just Saying:)
Haha
Great review of the new 1DX.
Please cease and desist with the dings. They are so piercingly annoying I had to turn down the volume. The "as well"'s were not a problem.
Good vid, don't see what's wrong with "as well" , we do that alot here in Wales
:)
"As is" was not bad at all but the spousal teasing was funny and I enjoyed it ;) Was there a rolling shutter effect or banding with the silent mode?
I only tested the silent mode a few times, but didn’t notice. It’s something I’ll definitely check out when I Buy the camera😀
Looks like an amazing camera! P.S. Your link to the posing guide doesn't work. P.S.S. I want the camera, as well.
Sorry about that! All fixed now :) vanessa-adams.mykajabi.com/email-capture-4e2afca0-5db6-4b5b-8b58-ba9fb9a732cc
This camera reminds me of way back when autofocus was new. Everyone was looking for a Canon AF camera and Canon comes out with an all electronic T-90. It was everything you wanted in a camera except AF. I've always felt it was Canon's test bed for the future. Imagine all the feature of the 1DX with a best in class EVF? 🤯
Mind blown
This camera is so damn cool, the best thing is face tracking in ovf. But i woud prefer next iteration of 5d if was a canon shooter but because my old film Minolta Dynax 7 (you should get dynax7 or 9 because their customizability and suberb ergonomics far greater than my a900) it's lenses i'm a sony shooter.
Great video 😁
It IS so damn cool
Problem is : are rhey going to continue supporting the ef mount?
Define support.
Joaquim Gonsalves Says who? Not Canon. Hahaha
One of the largest and best collections of lenses available as it sits. Doubt that anyone could ever own all of them, or fail to find exactly what they need for any job among them. R lenses have a long way to go to catch up, which is why Canon will concentrate on them for the foreseeable future (and why no real pro mirrorless body yet). But I'm sure if the demand were there for a new EF lens Canon would oblige. Meantime, there are enough great lenses to last the lifetime of this model.
Supporting... but not making anymore of them
dope video
Thanks
Canon, ruling photography forever!
Haha yaaasssaaasssss
Hi Vanessa, I really enjoyed your video and I am impressed with your technical knowledge. You made a comment during the video regarding being able to use a new clarity slider within camera on your jpeg images. My question to you, is there a reason why you shoot using jpeg format? I presume you are shooting to two cards, RAW and jpeg, why don't you just shoot RAW to both. Does this have something to do with your workflow and being able to offer clients that immediate access to their images? On a similar note, a lot of Wedding Photography UA-camrs tell us all about how to get the shot; what settings to use, how to enhance an image with OCF and how to pose a couple. Would you consider recording a video that describes what you do 'behind the scenes'? So, you talk about how important your brand is, and I would imagine your brand has a solid reputation because of all the fine-grain detail you put into the 'behind the scenes' such as being able to edit images on your laptop (or your 1DXMK3) during the wedding day/evening. My issue is, I am trying to understand how you are able to provide such a top-end service, so I can try and replicate it myself. Is it possible to do it on your own, or do I need people to help? Kind regards Paul.
Hey Paul! Thanks for writing. :-) I shoot raw and jpg because I do same day edits the day of the wedding, and with this camera I'm easily going to be able to take a jpg shot in camera, get it right and practically edited in camera, and then wifi it over to my iPad for the same day edit display. Everything else that I'm actually delivering comes form jpgs. :-)
And I definitely have a lot of those videos coming, and a ton out right now on @adorama's YT channel in the Breathe Your Passion playlist :-)
Each occurrence “as well” was appropriate, meaning “in addition to.” It wasn’t as if Vanessa was using fillers such as “like” or “you know”.
Haha I give you full permission to leave negative comments if I start doing that
Yeah, i like just wanted to write kind of the same comment too as well, you know.
Canon and Nikon are putting out new flagship DSLRs to deliver the most high performance camera possible, before the new era of mirrorless REALLY kicks in - because let's be honest, we are still not quite there. For filmmakers and such, the Sony A7sII was a game changer, but for photography in my opinion the mirrorless just made the cut when the A9 and the new Canon and Nikon mirrorless came out. And that is only about 1/5 of the time we're having mirrorless technology available for full frame. The new mirrorless by Canon and Nikon also have new lens mounts and a new pro level DSLR is especially suited for people like me, who own a ton of glass for the "older" system which is still of awesome quality. For me it is still more affordable to keep my old lenses and get a $6.000 flagship DSLR than to get a not so pricy but still absolutely not cheap mirrorless where I have to basically buy an all new set of expensive new lenses to get the best performance on the new system. Also it is a chance to implement technology from the mirrorless age into a DSLR like e.g. phase detection and the possibility to basically use the DSLR as some kind of "semi-mirrorless" if you want it to.
I also currently use both of the Nikon systems and I am not fully convinced and satisfied by the overall performance. I use an almost 10 years old Nikon D3s and it is really SHOCKING how well this monster of a camera keeps up with the new Z6 especially when it comes to ISO performance and image rendering. So well that I consider selling the Z6 and just stick to the old one. And we are comparing a 12MP flagship DSLR to a 22MP state of the art mirrorless here. I also appose this MP-Insanity - it is just not true that more MP equal a better camera. For those who need 50MP that's okay but really for the vast majority of photographers 12MP is really enough if you don't crop (which you shouldn't anyway - opinion alert).
You could print billboard size with 12MP 10 years ago, so you don't need a 50MP camera today to do the same. It is all about viewing distance - nobody looks at a billboard or a large 3 yards wide print from 2 inches away to pixel peep it this image. If you do, you're a tech nerd and not a photographer. Non-photographers won't bother the detail anyway because they look at what the image makes them feel and what message it tells and not the micro detail.
I think it is a great Idea to put them out, just like Nikon did it with the old Nikon F6, which is basically the most advanced Analog Film Camera there ever was as a great and well rounded closing to an era of photography. To put everything technology has to offer into their last camera model of this kind, into one final masterpiece of flagship. I will definitely go for the new Nikon D6, because I know it's gonna last me for the next 10 to 15 years of my professional career and will still be looking great and competitive in 2030, just as the old pro level cameras from 10 years ago are today.
So well thought out. Thanks for this!
@@VanessaJoy You'r welcome. Really enjoyed your video! Keep it on.
I wish I had this 'as well' :-)
Hehe
Really great review ! This camera is just a monster, the lil' desapointments with it is no af and no sound in certain video mods...but maybe canon will fix it with firmware :)
I’m hoping so
@@VanessaJoy Who knew, sometimes firmware updates brings nice surprises, as Nikon and the "eye tracking" on the z6 and z7 :)
