Fun fact: Skid's original G1 toy transformed into a Honda City Turbo (subcompact car), but because not many people in the US knew what a subcompact car was at the time, when he appeared in the cartoon (all of two times), his vehicle mode was misinterpreted as a minivan, which his actual vehicle mode could theoretically fit into the back of (with seats folded down/taken out, of course).
The comics dont focus on the actual figures because they are preludes for dark cybertron, which is the 12 part series that the next few waves will be packed with, all of the recent figures have been packed with the Dark Cybertorn preludes.
I bought Skids from Robert Castro's booth at Frank and Son yesterday. The elbows are a bit loose but overall, Skids is almost perfect. I like the missile shoulders, the guns and the wings.
The flip-top head really reminds me of G1 a lot. Seems like lately a lot of them just have the head hidden somewhere in the chest and the rest of the bits rotate around it
Skids was just recently released here in the Philippines so I'm finally playing with him. Not sure if this was tackled in the comments but the auto-flip-out gimmick for his shoulder guns is activated by moving his backpack all the way down to move the latch.
For the alt mode - Skids, like Trailcutter, Hoist, and the upcoming Legends 2-pack Swerve and Tailgate were among the only '84-86 characters that still hadn't gotten figures in the CHUG line (outside of the Legends release for Trailbreaker/Hoist). So basically Hasbro is trying to create figures that have their look in bot mode from the comics (Swerve & Tailgate too), but have earth style vehicle modes so they can fit into a non-IDW collection as well. Note that out of those four (plus the Legends 2-pack Bumblebee) they all have Cybertronian vehicle modes in the comics - except Hoist who hadn't had his shown at all until the one shot that came with him. As for the comics, the first two waves all had one shots that were made specifically for the characters. This wave and the next few however are all getting issues from the current Dark Cybertron crossover storyline (this wave is DC Preludes). I guess they decided it was cheaper to do this than to make new one shots for every single character, plus it promotes the crossover. It does suck that they lose out on the focus issue idea though.
I picked mine up two days ago. The figure is very cool. The blue and red really stand out. Its easy to transform. I never owned the original so picking this one is special. Thanks for the video review.
The rifle looks like it was built upside down because the ammo clip suppose to be at the bottom of the blaster instead of being at the top but I could be wrong.
I see what you mean on the comic not focusing on the figure. I got Tankor a few weeks ago and the only time he shows up in the comic is when he argues with Starscream.
This is a nice figure but there is a few issues I have with im to. 1. I had the same hip issue where I had to reverse the hip sections to get the full articulation, so that's fixed, 2. the feet sit to far forward for me. If they had a way to make them slide back under the figure, it would make it more stable and it would look better, 3. the shoulders are like Animated Ultra Magnus, they sit way to far back to and if you pose the arms pointed out, they look extremely short and it looks bad, if they had a way to slide the shoulders down and/or down and forward, that would help a whole lot to. For what it is, its not a perfect toy but its still a decent figure and I am glad I got it. Nice video and thanks for point out the hip section issue. I didn't even realize it til I watched your video.
Thanks for doing this video Paul. I've been hesitant to buy the toy because the shoulder joints didn't look articulate enough. Now I Know they aren't So I may pick Skids up at retail instead of at Thomas' place
Nice looking figure and homage to G1 skids.. His G1 toy was one of the nice molds. I agree on those comics, they were supposed to be reprints of IDWs Spotlight issues, but these newer figures did not have spotlights so they had to pull something out their ass.
One thing i dont like about the way hasbro do things is that im in the UK and im suposed to be getting the springer and blitzwing and you cant get it in toys r us so i have to wait until my dad comes back from hong kong because hes gonna get them from that toys r us and is it just me or the vehicle mode from TF age of extinction sonic RS looks like this one and if you dont get a toy of it when your playing will you use skids as the sonic RS while using it as if it was an acutall autobot (sorry for the long paragragh long sentence)
I liked your review. Your review actually made me buy this figure. Skids was the LAST TF G1 figure I bought when I was a kid. He was a loose floppy mess with pencil/stick arms. Even as a kid I went. "This is a piece of crap" That was before I knew the term QC. This is truly a well made figure. It does have basically one pose but it looks bulky and tough. I thought the original G1 figure was a little minivan too which added to the crappiness of the figure. Wimpy floppy robot that turned into a mini-mommy mobile. This figure changed all of that old G1 hate. GOOD JOB! The thighs on my figure were wrong too and what you should have said is that without the fix the legs can't rise all the way up (high kick). The forearms guns are a homage to the original chrome guns. Nice touch. Walmart has them for $9.99 now so I had to pick him up.
don't feel bad optibotimus skids wasn't really present too much in the g1 cartoon... in fact he only appears in 'quest for survival' and 'triple takeover'. plus two diff. people voice him in said episodes. i'm not much of a comic fan either but this i love the classics figures i'll buy him
Hmm. I really like the look of this figure in the fully armed mode but like others have said, the hatchback car just isn't Skids to a G1 afficionado like me. Having said that I accepted Perceptor as a Half Track so . . . . The breaking thing bothers me a lot though. The transformation actually has some elements in common with the G1 version - I like that. :-)
Of all the transformer reviewers I like yours the most, I bought my skids figure. Its a awsome figure. But I lost intrest in it do to it haveing very loose joints , I use a few well cut strips of tape. To tighten the hip ball joints and one of the arm joints now my figure is. Able to stand and pose a lot better I. Might try to tighten up the joints on the feet as well I haven't decided on that yet.
The comics that come with the figures are installments of the IDW Transformers Dark Cybertron comic series. They just feature a cover exclusive to the deluxe figures. From the six that I have, the seem to be random installments of the series. I wondered if this is a marketing gimmick from Hasbro and IDW to get you to buy more comics to complete the series.
From Wave 8(armada starscream, scoop, ammonite set, and skywarp) to 11(arcee and chromia), each character included a specific issue of Dark Cybertron from 1 to 12. While wave 7(skids, waspinator, goldfire, and dreadwing) had 3 of them packaged with an issue of RiD 17, 18, and 19 and Skids came with MTMTE 22
I agree. I have the generations night beat and if you look at night beat on the cover properly you will see that it is actually jazz coloured to look like night beat and he is not even in the comic at all...very strange imo
Hm, Its wierd how i thought how it would scale well with leader class ROTF Optimus, my friend really wants to do stop motion and really cares about scale. And does Voyager class shockwave (DOTM) scale with Optimus?
Nice Review Paul!! I want to ask you said you don't collect the comics, do you keep them? If you don't want them would be willing to sell or trade ? I do love TF comics I have about 500 total, but could always use more. Most od these that come with the comics, that is all I want from them. Please let me know if you are willing to do something with them. You can keep the toys and let me have the comics!!
And I think his reviews are generally TOO positive. He never really finds fault with any of the toys he reviews. This one was actually refreshing to me to see.

I'm going to get this guy along with Crosscut
I bought Skids from Robert Castro's booth at Frank and Son yesterday. The elbows are a bit loose but overall, Skids is almost perfect. I like the missile shoulders, the guns and the wings.

Every time I look at this Skids I keep seeing a frightened face on his chest, like this:
D:
I can't unsee it!
As soon as I read this, I noticed that. D:
I will never see one of my favorite childhood figures in the same way
Thanks a lot (I’m not actually mad)
Skids was just recently released here in the Philippines so I'm finally playing with him. Not sure if this was tackled in the comments but the auto-flip-out gimmick for his shoulder guns is activated by moving his backpack all the way down to move the latch.
There is actually some guns with the magasines on the top. For example type 99
my hips where switched as well, lol. thanx for the heads up.the chicken leg thing did help out a lot.

Thanks for the tip about the thighs! My Skids no longer has the leg poseability of a G1 brick.
The rifle looks like it was built upside down because the ammo clip suppose to be at the bottom of the blaster instead of being at the top but I could be wrong.
There ARE actual guns with ammo clips on top, mainly in WWII
I see what you mean on the comic not focusing on the figure. I got Tankor a few weeks ago and the only time he shows up in the comic is when he argues with Starscream.
i hope they make some dinobots like sludge snarl swoop
Great review, like always, looking forward to seeing you on the Cybercast this week.
I'm a theoretician.
Any timeframe on the full Uranos review? I know you were waiting on the Wings of Uranos set.
Mine doesn't have the number on his side-door. Weird...

great review optibotimus! looking forward to your next one.
Hey Optibotimus, there ARE actual guns with ammo clips on too
Paul have you ever done the tf generations devastator
make a stop motion whit all the autobot and decepticons you al ready have
So when is this coming out in US?
Nice looking figure and homage to G1 skids.. His G1 toy was one of the nice molds. I agree on those comics, they were supposed to be reprints of IDWs Spotlight issues, but these newer figures did not have spotlights so they had to pull something out their ass.
The serial code is supposed to be on the inside of the door. I have seen other people with the same problem.
mines ball joint broke off too.........
I just got Skids from HTS, and the thighs are correct. Maybe the fixed it on the second run.
Can you do a review of Generation deluxe class Crosscut?
Odd shaped features in this character. Thanks for keeping your reviews real!
Well, I *was* going to pick up this figure, but if it's got qc issues and the leg parts put on wrong...
I may have to re-think this.
mdredheadguy1979 That was on his Skids, not all will have qc issues.
I like his car mode. Love grill

is he out yet?

I'll get the Takara version. Hopefully be more G1 looking.
Hmm. I really like the look of this figure in the fully armed mode but like others have said, the hatchback car just isn't Skids to a G1 afficionado like me. Having said that I accepted Perceptor as a Half Track so . . . . The breaking thing bothers me a lot though. He is a great figure but i Like Waspinator more
Of all the transformer reviewers I like yours the most, I bought my skids figure. Its a awsome figure. Skids was never a minivan. He was a Honda city turbo. A vehicle smaller than a vw beetle
Hey Paul, what is your opinion about of Generations Drift (are we going to see a review of him in the future)?
The comics that come with the figures are installments of the IDW Transformers Dark Cybertron comic series. They just feature a cover exclusive to the deluxe figures. From the six that I have, the seem to be random installments of the series. I wondered if this is a marketing gimmick from Hasbro and IDW to get you to buy more comics to complete the series.

It has style, everything like crosscut
Hm, Its wierd how i thought how it would scale well with leader class ROTF Optimus, my friend really wants to do stop motion and really cares about scale. And does Voyager class shockwave (DOTM) scale with Optimus?
Not in the slightest
thanks, didnt want to spend money on something we couldnt use.
enrique ramos I think that the Battle Blades Optimus scales pretty good with Voyager Shockwave. Or the DOTM repaint that came out with Comettor.
Cool, i checked it out and i kinda like the way it looks and might fit well in the stop motion.
hey this figure comes with little victories
I think that the comics are old robots in disguise issues just with new covers.
They are. Skid's is MTMTE #22 if I remember correctly.
it looks like it could be remolded into prowl and the team
Gonna get this guy for my birthday! :D
That comic book is hilarious
Is the crosscut variant worth getting at all instead of this?
crosscut is better for me
crosscut has a better head.
I have a repaint of this
Thighs are wrong on mine too, but now serial number.
If they wanted to do a comic focusing on skids they should of done more than meets the eye #20
I would put the windshield up behind his head like in G1
The arm canons can be removed. That's what I did.
Where is MUDFLAP ?
Shannon Curry this Skids is from the transformers more than meets the eye so mudflap doesn't exist and ROTF skids is racist
Wow their QC is going down hill on a lot of figures these days :P
I want a Sideswipe :)
keep up the good work bro
i like the vehicle, just not on skids. hes supposed to be a MINIVAN. and the robot just doesn't work for me. but for some reason I still want it O.o
I'm kinda right there with you. I have the same issues with this guy, and for some reason I still want him too
16.20 - this is why I'm not keen on the new Megatron. He should tower over 'lil Skids!
Did they really mess up my toy
Nice Review Paul!! I want to ask you said you don't collect the comics, do you keep them? If you don't want them would be willing to sell or trade ? I do love TF comics I have about 500 total, but could always use more. Most od these that come with the comics, that is all I want from them. Please let me know if you are willing to do something with them. You can keep the toys and let me have the comics!!
awesome
THE COMIC IS NOT SUPPOSED TO RELATE WITH SKIDS DO YOU EVEN READ MTMTE
Not mentioned
is it me or is his legs really long?
I just picked him up at Wal-Mart for $9.94+tax better then target for $14.99
Me to
Bumblebees is hidden!!!
Skids looks like a Peugeot 208 gti.
Paint him red and you easily have a vehicon from age of extinction
Rip diamond bolt
I know skids from idw comics
The car looks too much like the ROTF Skids. If I cared I'd prefer a G1 accurate car.
Skids bro
whene you sad :i was like nheee,my internet crashed(i dont know why)
What?! I didn't understand any of that!
FUCK THIS FIGURE IM CRYING I CANT GET IT
he's just a repaint of crosscut
crosscut is a repaint of skids........lol
Why are you making skids look bad
He looks way better than FOC Optimus prime. That figure sucked
Mudflap
I hate his feet!
I loathe this one...the design is abysmal and ugly, flimsy joints...also the top of the gun is different lights and red dot style sight not a clip...
I think your reviews are getting too negative and nit-pick-y.
No their not. That's what he's supposed to do. Its called a review. I don't mean to argue with you but that's his job.
And I think his reviews are generally TOO positive. He never really finds fault with any of the toys he reviews.
This one was actually refreshing to me to see.
Devante Weary Look up "optibotimus video review universe(legends) starscream"
Transformers Rule Oh snap!
What... what year is this?
