Kats death really hits hard to me not only because she was a cool character but with the civilians in the bunker they just witnessed one of humanitys greatest creations fall right in front of their eyes and probably felt more fear than ever knowing that humanity's "Unstoppable" soldiers are still just as mortal as everyone else.
That and If you listen to Carter's voice he's clearly in distress as well. She and Him were the only two survivors of the OG Noble team. When Kat explains her slipspace jump drive plan with Carter you can clearly see that she "always has him dialed in" as Jorge puts it. Then he just watches her drop from a single needle. Pretty rough

Emile, the knife fanatic, was stabbed to death. Jorge, the big guy that loved Reach, died in a big explosion and off Reach. And then Six, the hyper-lethal lone wolf assassin and the last member to join, was the last member to die, and died a lone wolf, outmatched God know how many to 1
