Was driving the wife to work on this same route at the same time. My kids don't believe me when I said I could get downtown in ten minutes. And a single construction crane caused people to stop and gawk. My '72 Buick Le Sabre was my magic carpet. Ah those were the days. Thanks so much for posting.
I moved to Toronto in 1985 ,was 22 and fell in love with the City . I’m still here but now the City looks different and the people act different .Now I’m considering leaving the City for good or a few months in the year .The City is not the same in all aspects or I just may getting older and be slower accompanying all these changes .The City was great for long bike rides with something new at every corner .Now is just glass towers devoid of human feeling .I miss old Toronto .
Im sorry you feel that way. I was born in T.O. after you moved here, and I have to say, I love how the city has turned into a megacity while keeping its small town feel when interacting with locals. Shedding our small town persona for a megacity one is something to be embraced.
This is great. how things have change in my old neighbourhood, Degrassi street and surrounding area. Nice to see some of the old buildings and small businesses again.
If that was your residence in Sept. 1987, I can only imagine what that bad-boy would list for in 2023. The days when you could affordably live close to downtown Toronto and park your vehicle on the street where you lived. Thanks for the fantastic video and great memories.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I lived at 1911 Queen East from '85 to 2000 in an outdated two bedroom above a pottery shop and never had to pay more than $400 a month. Those were the days, eh?!
So Glad I seen this video, grew up in the beaches, The Olympic pools, Greenwood racetrack, Couldn’t believe when you turned left on Queen, than right on coxwell, pretty much the route I rode my 10 speed home to Ashland Ave, sometimes cutting through Orchard park boulevard, in the 70’s instead of paper routes we hustled Programs at the track, asking for them as people left than re selling, we moved in 1980, I still came and went till 86’ , very great-full for growing up beaches , thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Wow! This is an incredible video, I was celebrating my 12th b-day then. If you listen to the radio at 6:10 the radio d.j. talks about the Jays vs. Tigers, I was at that game at Exhibition Stadium. My dad got tickets and it was my first ball game. The Jays came from behind and rallied in the late innings and won 3-2, one of the best memory's of my youth. Thanks so much for uploading this, I have to show this to my father. lol
Dude amazing. Moved to TO in ‘89. Been living now near beaches for 7 years. Amazing to see what’s changed and what hasn’t. Great time capsule. Btw you start a drinking game-take a shot every time you run a yellow😂😂
Mark ya it's crazy I know your older then me but I remember moving to Toronto from Winnipeg in 1994 and listing to Fleetwood Mack it dose bring back great memories, now I live back in Winnipeg lol
Very cool! Wow how time flies! I had been working full time in Toronto since June that year and now I've been retired for coming up on 2 years! Just think, when you made this video you would never have thought that one day total strangers like myself would be able to see it worldwide! Thanks for the great video, love the nostalgia!
So nice to see the beaches used to look like this. I heard stories about the race track, didn’t know it’s stretched up all the way to almost Woodbine. 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the video you posted a few years ago, when you drove down Yonge st. You got all the way from Dundas/Coxwell to River before you hit a red light! Today, you would hit them all! lol
beautiful i grew up in the beaches. my friends lived in that area I was more upper beaches living off of Woodbine and Cassels. I would have been 9 around the time of this video. brings me back.
Government of Canada was sleep during the 70's and 80's and did not take many videos from the streets of Toronto, but there are few videos taken by people.
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I took a lot of home movies back in the day and made a playlist, if you'd like to see more... ua-cam.com/play/PL-taphl4m69KxtEIzqmS85AR1tBVZ4aqv.html
13:00 I loved that tune , man Toronto has changed over the years , right when this video was made I just started kindergarten preschool lol I moved to Toronto in 1993 and went to school in Toronto till 1998 and then moved back to Winnipeg
Filmore's is still there -- and you can even rent hotel rooms in it...not necessarily for what you're thinking...but then again, I wouldn't know -- we're thinking of housing a couple of film crew there as part of research of the TV Series we've been developing on the era.
you made a left turn onto Queen St. the sign said no left turn....why didn't you take lakeshore to Church St? or was this just for the video purpose? great video ...at little of Greenwood track and Don Mount and Regent Park...Fillmore's of course...thanks
Because then he'd have to do a strange U-y from where he was starting...and now they likely don't permit that and have a concrete barrier installed...that little part which sticks out as Lakeshore hooks up to Woodbine.
The no left turn is rush hour time only. Yea you have to make a U turn off Lake Shore BLVD pointing north coming out of Kewbeach AVE, You can see the no left turn at the stop sign.
@@hardyboy1959 I'm digging. I'll let you know if I find it. Sounds like Canadian rock - we looked into Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Honeymoon Suite, and a few of the more obscure bands.
That's Phil Collin's 100% I just got addicted trying to find this song and sent an hour, google is giving me nothing, i also listened to his pre 1987 LP's nothing. Anyone find this tag me please, i need to know now.
Back when everyone drove slower and calmer, and accidents were far less common. Except that if you got into an accident, you are far more likely to die.
This is great! I remember all these streets, the Old Woodbine racetrack, etc. from my 20's! Thanks for posting!
This dude is thinking 20 years ahead before anyone used a camera as a dashcam.

The adaptation of ghetto culture killed Toronto.

Born and raised in Toronto, used to love it. Used to..
Lived on Golfview 2002-2008. Had good times at Murphy’s Law, Lion on the Beach and Quigleys. Edit: fix typo.
Really miss those days. I remember these streets really well. Listening to radio was cool. ❤
Wow ! A walk down memory lane down by the beach ! Cant believe the empty streets ! The good old days before all the congestion on today !

Thanks for the look back. Great time.
The cool part is how he caught yellow lights on Dundas all the way to Broadview.
So cool! Documentation of experience of the time.
Nice video, saw things I never knew were there.

I lived just up the street on Golfview (north of Cassels). My backyard backed onto the park. Sold it in 2008 and moved downtown to a Condo.
Thanks brother I enjoyed this Back to the Future trip

A few days after my first birthday 🎂
CFTR 680 KHz on the AM dial. I miss Tom Rivers in the morning!
13:00 I loved that tune , man Toronto has changed over the years , right when this video was made I just started kindergarten preschool lol I moved to Toronto in 1993 and went to school in Toronto till 1998 and then moved back to Winnipeg
a trip down memory lane
Barbara Mandrell singing "Child Support" on the radio. 🙂🙂🙂
@ the 14:40 mark, that Pizza Pizza just left that location a few months ago and a new building is going up there.
Right past where I once lived.
Make that two places! lol
Dundas looks soooo different, I live right there 😮
9:56 Bob and Dougs van
I used to think these houses looked weird, now that I see today's houses I think those are weird!
Could you do the same exact route at the exact same time this year in 2017 as a comparison type deal
I loved Towers
Price of gas at the 14:40 mark: 41.9 cents per liter = $1.59 per gallon.
Sherbourne and Dundas in 2024 looks like the 9th circle of hell...the good ole days
13:13 Filmores anyone remember that place? Good times! LOL I think they finally tore it down. Gas prices 41 cent/liter.

awesome
Dash cam already way back in 1987 and not that heavy tripod monster ?
Reminds me of Stuntman Mike.

toronto kinda looked like pittsburgh back then
What's the song from 10:00 to about 12:30?
good question, I've tried to find that out.
@@hardyboy1959 I'm digging. I'll let you know if I find it. Sounds like Canadian rock - we looked into Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Honeymoon Suite, and a few of the more obscure bands.
That should be my music. I was dj’ing then, so I knew almost everything, and I don’t recall ever hearing it.
@@hardyboy1959 Sounds like Genesis to me -- that's Phil Collins' voice.
