I was on the fence about this fragrance base on all the negative reactions. But I went to Macy's in the morning sampled it. It's a weird fragrance it doesn't project but it lingers around you all day. To me it feels like a aftershave balm. The opening is piney then it drys down to a fougere scent. I liked it kinda of unique. Got to give credit to Dior for thinking out the box. Perfect for the gym or just chilling out. My only problem is the price. If this was cheaper I don't think there would be so many negative reactions. Keep up the good work
That is weird. People complaining about the price for it, but I heard it is actually cheaper than Dior Sauvage Elixir when it first came out. Plus it is was already available on one discount fragrance website. It took longer for Sauvage Elixir to show up at discounters, and it was not much cheaper than retail either.
Chris, if you're curious Bonne Étoile was Francis's debut with this water based carrier. I think it's better suited to this than Sauvage, but also not the most impressive product ever. There are some commonalities in the way the fragrances are composed and the evolutions of the notes that people might find interesting.
I can understand the concept of water-based fragrances in regards to potentially skin sensitivity and being more eco-friendly. But Eau Forte most certainly sounds to be the weakest link in the lineup. FairPlay for being measured in your appraisal of it.
I got a tiny bottle of the Eau Forte as a sample with my sauvage travel kit and was wondering how i should apply it as it did not come with a spray. The same way as alcohol based or should i do something different?
I’d seen all the negative reviews, I tried it yesterday and absolutely loved it, big direction change just like Elixir but the rep sprayed 3 big bursts onto my forearm and it projected really nicely, I liked the woodsy, cool spice and incense scent from the off but the lavender shone through after 20-30 minutes and that fragrance after 7 hours was still going strong but I topped up for a guest coming… so yes I bought it, very damned expensive but marketing crap aside I really enjoyed it and the sweetness of the lavender is a delight. Also cooling on spray too and the milkyness dissipates really quickly
Like you said, they should have launched this in its own line, not the sauvage one, in my opinion trying it in a macy's store in usa,its a skin scent, that last for more than 8 hours, but just close to your skin, a miss in the bast world of fragrances today, fresh spices and not more than that, great vid !
What comes to mind is that scene in Home Alone where Daniel Stern's character Marv slips on that first stair down to the basement. 🤣 Great scene. Eventually he finds his balance though and finds his way into the house. Cause....the door is unlocked. 😂
Part of me wants to sample this just out of curiosity but it most likely won't be a buy for me either way simply because I'm burned out on Sauvage flankers and really designer flankers in general at the moment. But hey, to each their own.
For the price point, this is absurd. You can pick up elixir for nearly the same amount. Really hoping discounters cut this heavily, could be a great entry point
Thanks for posting, Chris. Have to take the frag industry withva grain of salt. Endless formulations, flankers, strengths. It's annoying when they release "flankers" that have little or nothing to do with the OG, just for the cash grab. And how each brand releases its own version of one house's popular frag. Geez - isn't that what a dupe is ? Big houses should try trimming their advert budget to get better margins! I, for one, don't chase every new frag that hits the market, and stick with tried and true. (and, of course, the classics). Especially given the fact that I blind buy most of my purchases, after thorough research. I'm retired, so I have the time.... and enjoy it ! Not very often that I get stinker ! Cheers !
I’m not a fragrance hater typically unless it’s meant to be foul, which is rare. But this fragrance was sprayed on my wrist at the dillards department store in my local mall and what a bummer. I don’t know who it’s for…very wealthy people with equally sensitive skin? Who was getting crushed by the perfumers alcohol to begin with? Who is this for?
People who appreciate creativity, a different take on Sauvage's scent profile, something different idk. FK said in an interview too that the use of water plays a key role in how it smells, a different kind of freshness than the traditional oceanic/citrusy way. It has nth to do with skin health or whatsoever. Haters gonna hate, I like the scent and it lasts long and I own it
I'm not sure it being water based is what gives it poor performance, as I've heard people say. My wife has J'adore d'eau, which is also water based, and it performs the same as the rest of the J'adore line (which are not water based). I'm also not sure I see the point in water based fragrances, though she doesn't care about it either way

In any case, to me not at all similar to any of the Sauvage DNAs or Elixir. One other thing, it makes me think it smells like a masculine/spicy version of Jil Sander Softly. It's ok, but I prefer the smell of Softly. Did not like the sprayer, pushes that mist all over the place, and not very sharply, kind of weakly.
Smelt it 3 weeks before it was on sale, white yellow looking liquid. It’s decently strong but a lot weaker and much more inferior to all the other Sauvage in smell & quality. Edit (I wouldn’t buy it but only place I’d wear it is a funeral)
I agree regarding the shallow, one-dimensional nature of the scent. It doesn't smell bad, certainly, but it very much reminded me of an Axe Body spray. Nice enough smelling, but poor performance and nothing interesting or noteworthy. I'm glad I got it for free, but if I paid $193 USD retail for it, I'd be pretty upset.
