Oh god, same, when I was 13 I wanted to make an entire 3D animated series in Blender! 😭😂 I had such ambitions omg, I'm glad I changed lmfao
relateee
So glad I was not alone 😭😭
it will always amaze me how you rarely make a mistake from straight pen to paper. even when i draw straight w/ pen i'm always regretting a line i make or going over previous lines (not to say you don't regret your lines as well but you execute it so nicely it's wow'ing). love your art^^
haha thank you, i understand! it took me a while to get used to drawing with pen directly too, but eventually youll just stop caring about how it turns out and things will look better than you expect!
when i use pencil first, my drawings look kinda boring? i think patterns of similar mistakes make a lot of illustration & cartoons unique
The reason it looks boring is probably because you’re losing the looseness of the original sketch.
Instead of sticking strictly to the lines sketched, try to keep the loose strokes.
i related so hard to your words omg 😭 i feel like there are so many ideas in my head that never get realized just because it’s hard to actually *do* them! but yeah, loved this video (as always), and i’d love to hear more about your self-discipline/time management strategies in the future! ❤️❤️
Glad you could relate! But also you got this!!
I think it is super tempting to hold ideas really close to ur chest bc it means that the story stays perfectly true to what u want, but there’s also something really fun in seeing how a bunch of different people use their different experiences and use them to influence the story imo!!
yeah i totally agree! after working on various projects it's sooo rewarding to see artists put themselves into your story
I can't believe you just did that all in pen! you are amazing!!!
thanks! it took years!
I actually needed to hear this. I've been struggling with some projects & the issue of not having the same passion since the beginning compared to now.
aww im sorry to hear that, but i hope you rediscover your passion for your projects!
That was incredibly helpful! Especially about dropping our ego if we seriously want to get some big project done
I love your art!!! ^^
thank you!!
Same. The advice in this video really hits me. Right now I'm in a position where I don't get enough sleep so that when I finally have the time to sit down and draw my mind blanks out and I just feel too tired to do anything. I realize I've been putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself but, it's hard not to feel like I need to create this awesome masterpiece within my hour lunch break in order to step away from my comfort zone.
mannn this synesthesia art gave me such a rush of nostalgia!! thanks for sharing more solid advice, def gonna manage expectations a lot better from here on out and improve my workflow
I have so many Ideas and always had a story telling mind. Creating a comic is my big dream/goal but it is sooo much work! and my skill level is not even close there yet.. And being raised by a feminist family having the urge to be independent financially and also having enough time to level up my skills next to working full time is... just hard? I want those projects to be my creation without any extra help. And I know it won't happen soon 😅 Boy, I need to learn some patience..
Thanks for the video! Love your art style and listening to you is really motivating somehow :)
i'm sure you can do that! just don't stop working towards it
I disciplined myself for the majority of making my webtoon comic, but in the beginning, I really didnt think about breaking down my tasks at different times. I thought I would start and finish each episode in one day during the summer before my senior year of highschool. I got excited and started posting my comic at 5 pre-made episodes which was not enough. I started stressing out about the comic and school, wanting to draw my comic more than finishing my school work and got not as good grades as I liked. Then when I focused more on school, I missed a few episodes and had to take alot of hiatus. It was really bad and it took a toll on my passion, determination and love for my comic.
Ah this video brought back memories... Before I indulge in my own little story, I think I would like to add to one of the points you make in this video. I'm really glad that you mentionned the "artistic ego" (which I'm definitely a victim of) and how it can hold us back from achiveing our projects. Though, I think it's also important to create whatever you want when you have the passion and energy for it. I'm one of those people who can easily get stuck for weeks on the planning phase and by the time I have a plan, the project lost all its magic. Therefore, if I ever feel compelled to create, I know I must use the drive I have as soon as possible because my motivational fuel tank can't hold in as much inspiration as others might be able to. In short, don't stay in the planning phase for too long guys, get something done even if just a little!
And for the little story:
Back in June I decided to make my first 2D animation of one minute and a half for a challenge that one of the fandoms I'm in created. I had a little less than two months to do it, and in the end, I made it. I made the animation, from scratch, all by myself. I mixed the music, did all the sketches, the lineart, the colouring, I edited the video but, those six weeks of working on this animation in my free time completely burned me out. I honestly completely understand myself for not being to create anything for the next entire month. It was the biggest project I ever had, but because I burned myself out doing it and took "artistic shortcuts" at the end, the whole thing feels rushed, to me, now. I mean, I did put my all into it, but because I was so done with it at the end, it still feels like the entire process was a burden instead of a fun learning experience.
I am still glad I did it because it proved me what I could do if I pushed myself, but it definitely hurt my creativity.
Take care of yourselves people!
Oh my gosh I remember having ideas like that were I wanted to do a whole novel series or a comic series in middle school thinking that my name would be big in animation. But I realized later on that too it was going take a lot of work to do.
Still wearing those rose-tinted glasses 😎 Ahaha, but yeah all true, finding ways to pace yourself and not take on too much is key as an adult. The way may differ slightly on the person. Also is that a freaking sheep centipede?? I LOVE. I can totally imagine that as a long pillow.
yeah everyones gonna have a different journey, but we'll figure it out! :) and yesss!!
OMG! It's Mila! I remember following your oc stuff on tumblr and I remember you made an anime opening of your ocs! It was super inspiring. This gave me nostalgia and happiness of your growth!
i really needed to hear this. im struggling so hard on finding a style i genuinely enjoy
If you were on the internet between 2008-2013 and WEREN'T trying to make an animated youtube series, are you really an artist?? In middle school I wanted to make an animated series about wolves so um, I think I dodged a bullet (only after making a "trailer" and "opening" for it). Now that I'm post college and working on a webcomic, I WISH I still had that childish ambition xD
AHHH i remember the original video of your first sketchbooks with those characters!! I was like 12 or 13 and you inspired me to draw more than just fashion sketches!! :D used to be one of my favs
when i was in high school i wanted to make my own anime.
i gave up on that
decade later, i actually want to go back to that project and been going hard at doing it again, which is funny cuz its the opposite of what you did :D
Man, the reason I can't do anything is cause I think I'm not good enough, I keep postponing my stuff until I got enough improvement that I feel I'm satisfied.
I was literally about to draw and was looking for a draw with me and then you posted this-
im glad the stars have aligned for us~
i definitely remember your username from back in the 'fanime' community! I miss everyone making 'anime OPs'

The video said draw with me.

Video ends, and i didnt even see the epic beautiful work you were doing.
I just see a mini masterpiece drawing! Good job.
Next time im gonna look up and watch the process a bit haha
don't worry its the act of drawing together that matters~
@@mewTripled ifeel that
I think my only real ambition when I was 13 was to gtfo of jr high. Things were so fucking weird by the end of 8th grade that I just wanted it over and done with. I can’t even remember if I had any particular hobbies back then. I still read a lot but I don’t think I was drawing at the time, and my school didn’t have a choir, so I wasn’t doing that. I may have still been doing spring/summer swim team, but I didn’t have any interest in being a serious athlete or anything.
Anyway, my point is that I’m kinda impressed by people who had big goals or ambitions at a young age. I mean, I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was five, but that life goal quickly got replaced with just wanting to have a horse about a year later. A horse, and a bed with a canopy. Elementary school me was apparently extra basic. Lol
3:38 SHE LITTERALY- I- IM ACTUALLY DRAWING SOMEONE STANDING AND SMILING AND DOING NOTHING LOL
The music in the background makes the video hard to listen to 😢😢
these videos are so helpful!!
this reminded me of when i was like 13 n u would stream in the summer n i would just b an obnoxious middle school saying curse words in every sentence in chat, u guys were like a little older than me so yall would b like "just bc ur 13 doesn't mean u have to curse a lot
Watching this while cramming my homeworks for art school 😅👌
Hey bish! Love you!
♥️♥️♥️
This is amazing!
amazing realy nice 👌👌👌👌
I remember being hyped for masked girl lmao. Good times tbf
Yay new upload !
♥️
Bro you called me out when you talked about romanticizing people’s reactions to a project and not actually creating a schedule 😭✋
Will you be doing a full sketchbook tour?
i'll still make to life my 12yo creations, mostly because i only draw and maybe create them and 3d chars, since it's my new hobby (i had little time for all the things i want to do lool but ill manage one at thime).
I hope i can make it trough lol. Thanks for the video
i’ll try to draw more to be more motivated! 🤟🤟
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I CANT FIND THAT ANYWHERE
Bish what color pencils are you using? I’m curious what others use. Also thank you for this talk. It’s helped. Muahhugs! 🥰
Ain't that the truth
yep 😭
Especially since your sketchbook is double-sided, how do you deal with copic markers or other markers/inks bleeding through to the other side? I find it harder to want to use markers in my own books because of it :')
I've abandoned so may ideas because I originally didn't realise how big they could get and how I would p rob need help to finish them lol
And then we have me who's trying to make a 1 min long animation and like... it's almost done but I'm very unmotivated...
posting this while i'm in the breaking point of my art block..... how did you know???
People saying profound reasons.
Why I never finish projects: leaving the sketchbook somewhere and forgetting it altogether 🤣🤣
Edit:Im making a year long project to write and ilustrate an childrens book.
I feel like you’re going to think it’s stupid. But I’m 15 I have this project that I really want to make but the reason I’m not doing that is because I’m a freshman in high school and I want to have good grades. However do you think it’s dumb that I want to make my own animated series?
1. If I were you, I would start doing really short animations rather than your grand idea that might take years. For example, if you wanna run a marathon, you don't start by actually running the marathon without any training. Instead, you should start running short distances that you are comfortable with and gradually increase your running distance to get fitter and stronger. Then one day, you'll actually have the leg strength and lung capacity to run the marathon you've always wanted to. The same applies to art or animation, you start small, taking baby steps then gradually get better until one day, you can actually make the gorgeous work you had in your mind.
2. It's not dumb. If you think it's dumb, you're dumb. Haha, jk. But seriously, everyone that are passionate about art probably have the "thing" they want to do, be it a short film, comic, an animation short, or even art book.
IM LOOKING FOR THAT PEN PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME THE NAME
Real talk, if it weren't for school you'd have a much higher chance of achieving those goals.
hahaha oh what the alt universe could have been..
@@mewTripled oh well. The past is dead, and the future is a flourishing flower.
You say you’re the worst at getting shit done.
Are you challenging me?
