I was in the Air Force for 22 years... Absolutely NOTHING compares to driving down the parkway and coming through the Fort Pitt tunnel, after you have been away from your home and family for so long. Outstanding!

I went to college in Florida with quite a few people from Pittsburgh. Many Pitt folks in Florida, very down to earth people. I sold my late parents home to a lovely couple from Pittsburgh. I always wanted to go there because everyone I have ever met from there has been gracious & regular folk. Some say many with Season tickets to the Steelers also have season ticket to the symphony. That speaks volumes. God bless Pittsburgh, hope to visit some day soon.

I went to Pittsburgh on my 20th birthday and I like the people there. I'm a die hard Steeler fan since 2001. I'm a Pittsburgh fan, even though I live in Cleveland. Pittsburgh knows why its the most livable cities in the nation, the people are friendly, the food at restaurants are the best.

No other place represents all America has been, where it started, where it has come and where it it is going. Its people came from around the world to build this city and give it a character, a personality and humanity like no other. Pittsburgh's people are its life -- its ongoing life.
Many of its people have now departed to all parts of the world again. They haven't left the city, its character or its values; they've taken it all with them to share.
Pittsburgh is the center of the universe.

Loved this!! I also was born & raised there. Miss it very very much. The Burgh will always hold a special place in my heart. To move back there is my dream. Time will tell if that happens. Videos like this make a person realize there's no place like your real home..your roots! Thanks a bunch for putting this on. It really pulls on the heartstrings.
    Go Steelers!

Very nice tribute.Thank you for taking the time to compile it. I can remember 1964 on the 4th of July I was on a barge off the point with my father preparing to help fire the fireworks show. It was my 1st show and I wasn't aloud to fire but I was cleaning the mortors as the casings would stay in the mortors and they had to be pulled out with a tool. Oh yea, I'm from Pittsburgh and working to get back after 32 years away. In the early through mid 70's we fired the show at Kennywood. GO STEELERS

I'm from Philadelphia and I mujst admit, I've fallen in love with Pittsburgh. Born and raised on the Northside, those growing up years were the best! Too bad children and grandchildren will never experience the growing up times I enjoyed! Swimming at PV every summer, Annunciation Fairs, hanging out on the corner with friends, drive ins, ice balls, chocolate cokes, and so much more! Love you Pittsburgh, as they say in Florida you can take the girl out of Pittsburgh but you can't take this girl out of Northside! Accent and all!

Thanks for posting. I live in Atlanta, GA and have not been back to the 'Burgh in quite a while! I do miss it dearly. I grew up in Brookline, in the South Hills area. My Mom is from Sewickley and my Dad is from Alliquippa. Let me include a tribute to the great August Wilson, who wrote "The Pittsburgh Cycle" and became a world renowned playwright. Also, Ahmad Jamal, one of my family members, who remains one of the foremost jazz pianists in the world. Also from Pittsburgh.

My son says he wants to move down south,..he thinks any place else would be so much better. He'll see,..like I told him,..there's no place like Pittsburgh. No matter where you go in the US,..you can always find a Steeler's bar and fans,..that ought to tell you something right there.

I was born and raised in Harrisburg, Pa. My mother was born in Pittsburgh and my dad was born in Harrisburg but worked in the steel mill in Steelton, Pa. I am a steelers fan born and raised and when I got a bit older I started following the bucs and the Penguins. Only took me so long because I didn't like watching hockey when I Was younger. The guy I met that I love so much is from a Pittsburgh family haha it's perfect. Now were planning on moving out to Pitt. Even though I wasn't born there. .

I went to Oklahoma to live 8 months ago. Everyday I was gone Pittsburgh memories burned in my heart. I am not a sports fan. But I love so many other things about Pittsburgh that I will never leave home again. I am not sure what it is...maybe because I know where everything is at, maybe because I know you can always get a job or maybe it is the landscape. or maybe it is all of these things combined along with the people that makes Pittsburgh have evertyhing I want in a city.

It was on the verge of becoming another Detroit, but Pittsburgh is full of smart people, rich people, and determined people. The economic base was changed from mostly steel, to technology, research, finance, health care, education and some steel & other industry. The people loved their city so much that they REFUSED to let it fail. Add to that the deep pocketed wealthy class, Mellon, Scaif, Heinz, Carnegies, et al who sustained the city through the bad times.

624ossicheronee If you knew the whole story, you'd understand. It involved an ex-wife, her lying sack of manure mother, that mother's con artist boyfriend, an ungrateful ex brother-in-law, and not being able to see my grandfather for what was his last Christmas.
The one good thing to come out of it was a good friendship with my former father-in-law. He and my former sister-in-law warned me about my now ex-wife, and after I met the right woman who I am happily married to today, my former father-in-law made a special trip to visit me and congratulate me.

Pittsburgh had many of the same problems as Cleveland and Detroit and still has its problems. But the civic leaders, business leaders and other entities in Pittsburgh decided to cooperate and do whatever was necessary to get the city back on track. They are obviously very smart with a lot of business savvy.

As of October 2009, the unemployment rate in the Pittsburgh MSA has been below the national rate since December 2006. That's 35 straight months. In September it crept up to 8.1%, but by October the national rate had passed 10%. Furthermore, the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University collaborated on a job fair in May, in which close to 25,000 local jobs had openings. By the way, the steel mills all shut down in the 1980's. It's damn near 2010 now. Get with the times.

Grew up in Mckees Rocks and have lived in San Diego for the past 15 years. Yes California has beautiful weather, beautiful girls, the beaches, Disney and the list goes on and on, but....... It isn't Pittsburgh. They don't have great food here, they don't have the culture that I miss, they don't have the history and they don't have the will that Pittsburghers have. I miss Pittsburgh like you can't even imagine. Screw it, I am coming back. Yinz get ready.

    1. Pass interference.
    2. The ball passed the goal line.
    3. The guy's arm was around Haggan's neck and he timed the snap perfectly
    4. Yeah that was a bad call but it really wouldn't have mattered.
It's pretty easy to see the jealousy here, so nevermind.

Nice video, but I don't remember any of my working class friends ever listening to a country-western record unless it was done undercover. We were heavily involved in rhythm and blues, and I'm talking about the late fifties and early sixties, and I mean second and third generation ethnics of all stripes whose fathers and grandfathers worked in the steel mils. Nevertheless, the message conveyed by this brief video does capture the spirit of Pittsburgh and its environs.
