- Tired of the flimsy, awkward and inefficient storage bins for sale everywhere and want to Make Your Own custom sized bins to get organized? Great! See how I use a vinyl square fencepost to make a batch for storing everything from 'soup to nuts' in the Next Level Carpentry shop!
Here's a dedicated Amazon Influencer's page where you can get any of the unusual or usual tools and supplies needed for your own custom organizers... starting with vinyl square fencposts!:
www.amazon.com...
NOTICE: I pulled the vinyl fenceposts I had included in this Amazon list as a viewer informed me they seemed much more brittle than the ones seen in the video. I don't know how to properly source the posts through Amazon so here's a link to the exact posts I purchased at a Menard's store and were featured in the video:
www.menards.co...
An attentive viewer pointed this out to me and also shared a link showing what looks like the same item available at Home Depot in case it's more accessible/convenient for viewers:

Sorry to anyone who might have been disappointed by the post I had in the list. If you haven't cut them you may still be able to return them to Amazon...

these will work good in my service truck
I think so, William, but if you're outfitting a service truck you might be interested in this style too: ua-cam.com/video/5VsWR2jYH6Y/v-deo.html ... they are the ones I grab when heading to a jobsite. Best, Matt
Very creative and inventive idea... and expertly executed. Funny that you just now did this project with PVC. I recently finished assembling and spray painting a new hail deflector to cover my kitchen skylight using PVC pipe and fittings. It’s all painted up and waiting for me to attach the galvanized hardware cloth using stainless steel zip ties. Great stuff, that PVC. 👍👍
Hey Mr Bowman... a hail deflector is probably a good idea with hail season on its way! Not sure the technical differences but the white plastic fence post in the video is described as vinyl on the labeling. I even bought a couple tubes of vinyl adhesive since PVC cement like plumbers use doesn't work on it. At some point I'll do another organizer design and glue parts together in it rather than add wood with screws. PVC is handier because the cement fuses it together and I've yet to see how well vinyl adhesive works by comparison. I'd rather use square PVC 'pipe' but wasn't able to find it with a LOT of searching. Great stuff for sure though! Best, Matt
Next Level Carpentry Good to know... Never would have guessed that the post cover was not PVC!
Ugh. This is amazing. Not enough of this type of ingenuity on all these makers' videos!
I enjoy the seriousness and accuracy of your technical advice, but the most that I like is your sense of humor... Thank you!
Very creative and impressive.
Nice work, Chip
you channel is rightfully named Next Level Carpentry. I learned a lot just by watching 2 videos
Sahweet! 😎
While the build idea was a great one, what got me was the end. Dad jokes will always get me to watch. Instant subscribe. I look forward to watching more of your videos, sir.
Thanks for the sub Nick... it sounds like you've discovered that there are often little 'Easter Eggs' stuck on at the end of videos here... enjoy! Best, Matt
You're a great teacher. Many people can do a thing, but few can do it while explaining the logic behind the actions all while inspiring the listener. For what it's worth, thanks!
I really like the idea, all you need is a little cabinet to store the organisers in and you're laughing! 100x100mm PVC posts are a bit hard to come by in Oz, but 100x50mm downpipe's easy to find and I think that would work better for me. I generally don't load up drawers anyway - I just get what I need most of the time. Cut them small and turn them up 90 deg and you have removable boxes! Cheers for the inspiration.
Matt, you've solved a problem for me! I retired 2 weeks ago and started on organizing and downsizing. Last year we replaced our circa 1960s kitchen with stained custom made kitchen cabinets (not a fan of white kitchen cabinets) granite countertops, etc. etc.. Well all the contents of the cabinets, specifically the spices went back in more disorganized than before. I was looking for some commercial product to use. Well, I thought I'd build something, after all I have tools and a bit more time to get things done. The stumbling block was what material to use, then I remembered your video on shop storage, so why not use that for kitchen organizers! Thanks again for the idea!
Glad to hear it Dark Delta... it's cool how that worked out! I too use this stuff for drawer organizing trays and think you're really going to like how simple it is. Keep in mind that vinyl fence components come in all sizes... I use 2.5", 4 & 5" cut to different lengths and 'depths' which gives great flexibility for organizing. Best, Matt
LoL...you're an amazing carpenter, AND a comedian. Love your videos. Don't have all the tools you have, but I have learned a lot by watching!
nice humor at the end, well done
Very nice storage bins
Awesome idea, incorporates all pros I was looking for
I really like the way you have organized your shop, I have noticed that the better a place is organized the better the job is overall.
Pretty slick trick and I am LOL at the end.
The corny humor is fabulous. Great storage idea too.
That eeeeezzzzz fenntaaastikkk mite.... Very very good on yaaa... Love you Bro...
just found you best idea for storage shure wouold stack better than coffee cans the idea viewers have about hinge lids is great got on your subscription list too
Thanks for the sub Robert... I agree with the 'better than coffee cans' part! Best, Matt
You are most definitely a master at carpentry, and I'm really enjoying your videos Buddy.
Thanks for the kind words Greg. FYI keep an eye out on Next Level carpentry for more PVC pipe organizer ideas... I've got a couple more videos for useful configurations in the works in the next couple months so stay tuned?
Best, Matt
That’s a brilliant design!!! I think it’s the best storage solution I’ve seen. You can make them however you want plus by using the fence post you save a lot of milling and assembly time. Quick and easy.
Brilliant! Nice idea for my Legos as well. Thanks for sharing.
I really like those boxes and your video.
Great presentation, all those nice finishing touches that separate a craftsman from someone who hacks wood, screws and glues it together and tells the neighbour he’s a carpenter. 👍🏼and subscribed.
Brilliant. I have some scrap large vinyl square tubing that has been an eyesore around the shop I didn't quite want to throw away, but now here is a perfect re-purposing project for that material.
Thank you!
Hey SwankeyMonkey... first time I made these I had access to hundreds of square vinyl tubing scrap pieces and figured they HAD to be good for something too. BTW I've got a few more organizer ideas I'll share in future videos so you might want to hold back a few of your scraps for those... juss' sayin! Best, Matt
Love the sense of humor at the end. It was very punny!
These are superb storage boxes. I cut my storage space in half switching to these from peanut butter jars. Adding labels to the front makes it easy to grab the right container the first time. Thanks.
i work for a vinyl fence company and we have tons of 12"-24" 4x4 and 5x5 that we trash every day. this is a great idea. now i can finally put those cut-offs to good use. thanks for sharing
Where are you located?! All those scraps would sure come in handy! 😂😎 I've got a few more organizer designs I'll feature in future videos for even more uses for those pieces Mark! I predict you'll be the most orgainzed fence company out there in no time... thanks for watching and commenting here! Best, Matt
Probably the best idea I've seen and easy to build on to incorporate in A LOT of other areas!
An engineer with a sense of humor !! The last 30 seconds=new sub, Cheers !
I'm not an official engineer by any measure and my 'sense of humor' is not universally accepted but I DO appreciate the sub David! BTW there's other bits of 'humor' woven into many (most) other NLC videos so I hope you enjoy them too? Best, Matt
Very interesting idea.
Very good idea!! Love the practicality of this project...and your sense of humour! Keep up the good work.
Wow great idea Matt!
I would like to see more of your day job projects.
Send a video production crew to follow me around and I'll do 5 videos a week Michael! 😎 There's SO much cool stuff I want to show but, even with devoting all my spare time every week, video production throughput is minuscule. One of the hardest things about this whole UA-cam channel thing is choosing what tiny percentage of stuff I do in a given day/week/month that actually makes it into a video. I believe the best is yet to come though... Best, Matt
Very entertaining & super nice! From start to end loved it! I never seen any workshop this clean WOW! You probably have double days of the week or you are supper fast:) great job & thank you ;)
This is next level.
I don't drop comments very often, but I have to say this is so simple and amazing. I'm going to make this my project for tomorrow! Thanks so much for the video!
Well then: you're quite welcome Jeremy. I really appreciate the fact you stepped out and let me know... have fun with the project! Best, Matt
Great idea for shop storage.
Another great job. Well done
I did a deck this summer and had like a 3 foot piece of that stuff left over. I could not throw it away because I knew I could use it for something. Thanks for this idea...and for the videos which are so darned entertaining.
Great idea Matt. How about a video showing how to make those slick tail off tables you use with the table saw? I've been waiting patiently! Enjoying the channel. Thanks
Great idea! The only thing I can add is using a lengthwise spacer when making your first lengthwise cut to prevent the pvc from pinching the blade and gouging your kerf. I used to make bird feeders out of all my pvc post cut offs, squirrels hated them because they couldn’t eat through the walls and dump the seeds out, but this is definitely a great and unlimited way to utilize them!
Very good idea I think I may try to recreate it. Thanks for taking the time
Solid project for any workshop. I enjoy learning from your many years of experience. Thank you.
Awesome idea! Now I have new ideas on how to use this for a desk organizer. Thank you!
The timing of this video was serendipitous to be sure. I was just thinking to myself that I need to organize my screw shelf because the variety of screw boxes stacked on it was a bit unsightly to me. I didn't really want to build a new cabinet to store them, and the portability of these containers has me excited to have my screws on my assembly table without worrying about getting them all over the place. And I just checked the measurements on my shelf, and I'll be able to stack these 5 wide and 3 high going off of the specifications you provided in this video. Thank you so much for all the amazing content you provide. It really makes a huge difference for a hobbyist like myself. Anything that improves efficiency in my workshop, greatly motivates me to keep building and creating unique gifts for my friends and loved ones.
Timing is everything, right A.J.? Thanks for watching and commenting here! Best, Matt
I am a container addict. These would even work in my office and kitchen! Thanks for sharing and for your ingenuity!
Stay tuned for more I have a couple more videos in a similar vein that you may appreciate when I get around to producing and uploading them
That is a fantastic idea!!!
Nice idea. If you rounded the back lids and drill holes and install the lids to swing up and stay with the container.
This is a great idea. I like that there's a cover. Many organizers are just open bins. They look great when you get them and fill them initially and soon after are filled with sawdust and crud. I'm not a huge fan of white though. I think I would get some rattle can enamel and make them a different color.
As an aside, yeah, plastic goes everywhere. I put blade for my mini (Byrnes) table saw in those CD cases that have the center post. To separate them I cut small rings from pvc pipe on my bigger table saw. Another time I cut some foam in my driveway using my table saw and ended up having to vacuum the foam from my neighbor's yard. :)
Great video and project!
I use a grease pen for the label so if the contents changes it's easy to wipe off and re label. No sticky residue
Thanks for sharing Matt! Always a pleasure to watch your videos!
Your videography is funny and "on fleek!" ie. closest to perfect.
You are the first to rate videography at Next Level Carpenty as on fleek... and I'm flattered! Best, Matt
Those are brilliant. I will use them side ways with out a lid and attach them to my french cleat wall also.
Excellent - do you allow Chip to moonlight? He could drop by my place anytime!
Next Level Carpentry, I love you man! Been looking for something like this forever! People underestimate the genius involved in some of the seemingly smallest ideas.
Awsome craftsman!
Amazing build. Just the thing I was trying to solve for!
Yer a genius Matt !!
Its amazing how something so simple can be staring us in the face & until that lightbulb moment ... we are blind to it...
😎👍☘🍺
Cool project. Might build some for all my screws. Keep up the great videos.
Great idea... I enjoyed that you changed it up a little
Nice work. Love the end humor! 👍👍👍
Slick idea, Matt. Would have never thought of that.
Great idea Matt! Thanks for sharing.
Just found your channel when I was searching for a way to hang up hoses. This is my second video and I love it. I really like these shop tips too.
Welcome to Next Level carpentry and I hope you'll subscribe to be notified when new videos get uploaded! Best, Matt
you absolute madman. love these, will be making these in my shop soon. I'm taking a break between customers to build cabinets and drawers for the shop, these will be perfect.
Great idea. Also one can label the sections on the top of the lid, either with an indelible pen or stick on label.
Great little project. I'm going to build some of these. If you get more than a couple I would need some labeling to remember what I put in each.
On my organizers similar to yours, I take a quick picture of the contents with my I-phone, print it out the size of the container, laminate it and hot glue it to the top. That way you can see what's in the container without opening it. It is really easy to find what you're looking for.
Now that's way beyond clever! I'm stealing that one! Thanks!
This is amazing, I just took down my vynil fence and am reusing the panels but can't the posts, I had to cut them off at the ground... I was just thinking today of what I could use all of the posts for???? Wow! And here it is.... UA-cam read my mind and put your video here, thanks
That is a fantastic Serendipity Terry... glad you found this video... but wait, there's more! Just last week I released another video using Square vinyl fence posts to build some more organizers! The latest design organizers are portable so check that video out on the next level carpentry Channel page. You'll need some white vinyl adhesive for those organizers but they're another great way to use up all those extra fence posts you have around and get pretty well organized at the same time... Best, Matt
Outstanding! Semper Fi
So, two more items to add to the shopping list today at Home Depot so I can sort my nails, screws, nuts, and bolts, and will make a stand from some aluminum channel and 1/8" clear plastic I have laying around from some old posters.
Thank you for sharing, also these will make a nice container for the plans to my RC models, instead of the shabby cardboard tubes they currently reside in.
WOW! This is definitely a "must" build project. The creativity is through the roof and the portability is a major plus. May I suggest color coded labels on the top cover to identify the contents.
Very clever, thanks. I love how the lids can allow you to shake out the contents!
Nice! I am amazed at your layout skills.
Very useful, thank you. I'll be making a dozen or so for my nuts/bolts/screw storage. Thanks for sharing!
Glad to hear it Gord... FYI you might be interested in this type of organizer too: ua-cam.com/video/5VsWR2jYH6Y/v-deo.html Best, Matt
Consider to give it different color for every use of it. In example brown for woodscrew, white for stainless steel stuff, yellow for galvanized thing or else depend your wish to make it easier to remember.
After it you can labelling with more spesific detail for its measurement as it size.
I'm sorry if it difficult to understand, i'm still new in learning english.
Thanks for your shared knowledge sir.
Best regard from indonesia.
So smart. I alwsys wind up with s smile after watching your vids. Very cool use of material.
Well done. Simple and useful.
Been waiting for this one and I'm not disappointed! Neat concept.
Great idea! I would need labels though. I have been using plastic shoe boxes for years now. Each layer is on its own adjustable shelf and each box has a label. You could stack the boxes but sure it is nice to pull out a box with none of the others hindering its removal or placing it back.
I just picked up a fence post cover at a thrift store for three dollars because I had seen this video. Going to make a variant of this in the future.
I like this. Imma add a hinge at the end.
Good idea and good way to keep me keeping on until the end.
made these with clear plastic so easy to see whats in them
I use have used those fence sleeves for a container mounted to the wall but this is "next level ". I recently made clamp racks from the vinyl pickets, better option if you want to save money, GREAT VIDEO !
@@xmuggsyx I have pictures on my instgram page, not sure if its allowed to post my link here but I'll give it a try instagram.com/p/B9DHKMnD9NWR71JUAZxY_Kk9o37wNS6FUUHg3o0/
Nice idea, well presented. Thank you
Now I know exactly what I'll do with the one and a half left over vinyl posts I have... Thanks Matt!
Hi Matt,
Great idea! 😉👍
Also, Looking forward to the final Door Build.
Hey Ed... the 'day job bookcase' has got me slammed so I'm afraid it pushes the door build back a bit but now I'm more determined than ever to 'land THAT plane'! Best, Matt
@@NextLevelCarpentry Hi Matt.. thanks for the update.😉👍
@@NextLevelCarpentry Hi Matt,
Are you going to have any video on the book case... I would be interested in seeing what you did with it... I'm sure it's going to be A-1 just like everything you do.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your time and effort you put in to what you do...looking forward to seeing the next video, take care 😉👍 Ed
@@edverbic7103 Wish I could do a more complete video on that bookcase but I'm pushing hard just to get one for the adjustable shelves with hidden hardware which will be the next regular upload. I'm planning to do one showing the modern angular crown moulding too but it's tough because it's project completion deadline/crunchtime for the next few weeks. Thanks for mentioning your appreciation... it's what keeps me motivated to keep pushing... more soon. Best, Matt
Great idea. Impressive video skills as well. Thanks for sharing.
What a nice man!!! Brilliantly done. Awesome stuff young man! Be safe in the times of corona!!!
I thought I was on the wrong channel, only a 15 minute video. Thanks for sharing the idea, I have been looking for something better than the plastic bins.
Much nicer than the junk available at the stores. I just wish you had made the video sooner!
So creative - thanks for sharing
Thank very much for the idea. Congrats.
Thanks! Another great project.
Thats a good setup.
Very slick! Great idea....
If you want the ends or dividers to be more permanent, or are going to store something that might spill liquid (stain, dye, etc.), you can use some more of the PVC post (or other vinyl fence parts) instead of wood for dividers; just glue them in place with CA glue. I have friend who is a fencer (mostly farm, but some residential) and he gives me all of his scraps of vinyl (and cedar).
