- "The inspiration for it was, I heard Reba McEntire's 'Whoever's in New England,' and I thought, 'What a great song.'" Jennifer says. "I really liked the story of it. At the same time, it's a story that you hear a lot - the jilted lover, the one who has been cheated on. I thought, 'You know, in that situation, there are three people hurting. Ain't nobody really happy. What if you were bold enough to tell the story of that other woman, and what she feels like in loving someone that is not fully hers either and knowing that there's another woman that's hurting because she's in the picture?' That's complex, adult stuff. Ultimately, it's about the redemption of loving oneself enough to realize, 'I am worth more than this situation. We're all worth more than this situation, really.'"
Jennifer says she and partner Kristian Bush plan to keep digging even deeper lyrically in their next album. "I know I want this album to be even more authentic than the last," she says. "Authentic to where we want to be artistically, and authentic to the human spirit. I want it to be the next step, grabbing a piece of someone's heart and showing them themselves - 'Don't you feel this way? Can you feel this way? Have you felt this way? I feel this way.' Artistically I want it to be that.
"On another level, when that is true and the song rings true, then it's going to be successful," she continues. "People want to feel something. Even if it's a sad song, they want to feel validated that they themselves are understood, because someone says or sings what they feel. It is time to stretch, and we all know it. Fans know it. Nobody wants to hear the same thing over and over. People want something different. They're so bored with everything sounding the same."

Everyone keeps commenting about this song being from the point of view of the other woman, how they wouldn't pity her. Well guess what? There is always more to a story, you have to actually pay attention and look deeper than the surface. She clearly got emotionally invested, in the song she says she put alot of time in this, which means she probably did not know about the wife or girlfriend until after she was completely in love with him. Now she is hurting so bad because she knows it is hurting the other woman too. She eventually comes to realize that she is better than this situation, she deserves better. That this man isn't worth her love and time anymore because of what he did and is still doing. He made her into a homewrecker and she is tired of feeling like a bad person and like she isn't good enough. There are 3 people in that situation and she got the courage to get out of it so the other two can work on their hurt and their tattered love.
I wonder who could sing this song from a mans point of view. I know the pain of that and It is no different. When love makes you stay when your head says go.And no matter man or women it hurts. I don't think people forget that its not only women who get hurt when it goes bad.

My best friend dated a boy for a while, and then he broke her heart... but then about a month later he calls her and asked her to hang out.. so they did and she loved him so much, she never got over him... and when he tried to get in her pants, she couldnt say no. So that went on for 5 months where he didnt date her, but called her once a week to get laid. And now he's dating someone else, but he still calls her to get laid. Finally she stood up to him and said she couldnt be his bitch anymore..
She is the mistress... listen a litte closer, shes begging him to not got home to his wife and she states that shes giving him her best, but she gets the best of him, meaning their relationship. In addition,she says "leave her arms and forever be in mine being used". thats all mistress are they are used and never truely loved.
