hello! i want to ask, is there a deposit fee if you’re planning to stay in a dormitory on campus that you need to pay with your own money before paying the monthly rent with the gks allowance? or is it paid in a lump sum upfront (with your own money) and there’s no need to pay monthly rent? this is a really big factor for me when deciding to push through with applying at a uni in korea bc i need to save money as early as now 😔 thank you so much! 🥺

when you took your Korean course before entering university, could you stay in the university dormitory or had to rent somewhere else?
I did not have to take Korean as I have topik 6 before coming to korea!

In relations to that, I am still studying my masters degree here in my country and I plan to take another masters degree in Korea with the scholarship after I graduated from my masters here.
My question is, would I stilll be qualified or will be given a chance to be awarded with KGSP? since I am going to earned another masters degree?

I emailed the KGSP/GSK and asked them the same question. They replied that I can apply for master's degree program while holding another masters degree.
If you have more questions, you may email them through There are some requirements or instructions may vary from different countries just like Ms. Jo said to my query.

Hi! I want to ask you a specific question, when you applied for KGSP, did you sent them your TOEFL score? Also, did you have to pay the extra amount to sent them to the universities you were applying? And, do you think it's worthy to make the Duolingo English Test instead of TOEFL to send them? I will apply for SNU also, for undergraduate 😄.

I am from an English speaking country so I did not have to!
If you read the application requirements available on the study in Korea website it says which tests they will accept.
Duolingo English Test isn't valid for the scholarship. Only official tests like TOEFL and IELTS are accepted as far as I know, the page has the list of tests that are accepted, but it has to be official.
Do we have to give dorm rent also apart from our monthly allowance or from the allowance ??

Hi! I hope you're doing well. This video was so informative to me but I'm really confused about another thing. I know that the toefl and ielts are said to be optional in the program. But they also said I. Their FAQ that they could be required by the partner universities? My major is english literature but I don't have enough money to take the ielts or toefl, and I don't know if the requirements of the universities change according to the GKS requirements. If not, can I prove my language proficiency with my degree only? I hope my question wasn't too confusing.
If you do not come from a country where english is your native language, you would have to take toefl or ielts! :)

Hi, I read that gks only cover tuition fee up to 5Million won so what if the major/ university I choose cost me more than 5M KRW? will it still be covered by gks or by my own?
from what I know, you would have to either work as a teaching assistant to cover it!

It is usually around 500,000 won a month for a really small one room!
Is the money enough to bring family? I plan to apply for KGSP next year and would like to bring my 2 children if I pass the scholarship.

Not if you get the KGSP but if you apply just a regular way they probably do have a requirement. For instance I know Korea University required like $20,000 in a bank account. So I would advise you to check the schools website.
