Let me know one thing: Are you excluding any of these names just because they are popular?

Welsh and German names for babies seem hard to come by so I really appreciate this video. Welsh and German are also part of my heritage and when I have kids I'm hoping to honor that heritage without compromising on the child's individuality which is one reason I don't like giving Junior names to kids. Though I have thought of ways to tribute/honor loved ones with names without giving that person's name to my child and it allows me to be plenty creative as I like. Same for anyone else who would also like to do both. Here's how I thought of ways to do be creative to anyone interested (it always helps to search various country/culture origins for more options):
    1. Picking a name that shares common syllables with one's name. For example, if I wanted to use my mother's name, I'd look up names that have 'lyn' or 'lin' in it somewhere because it's versatile and Lynn is my mother's middle name. For those who from a culture or country that don't have middle names, where I come from its common to give a child two names upon birth as well as their family name.
    2. Use a mother's or grandmother's maiden name as a first or middle name. Again, something I can do safely but with little creativity.
    3. Look for names that share the same or similar meaning. I could even name my child after me or my husband by the meaning as well as other loved ones. My real first name has multiple meanings, including bird and quite a few names have bird meanings or even a theme. My mother's name also means worker bee or queen bee so I could look for other names with that meaning or even look for names that start with the same word or sound as bee.
    4. Birth month names. Doesn't have to be literal months for names but seasonal names or names connected to events like holidays in that season or month or even use the meaning of the month to find a name.
    5. Favorite plants or flowers as names. My grandmother really loved sunflowers but I'm not daring enough to use that as a name instead I'd look for names with sun, son or sol or mention the sun in its meaning. Also, one of my mother's favorite flowers are Zinnia, which would be a really cute name as is.
    6. Place names of their country of origin as names. If I wanted, I could use Berlin as a baby name as a city in Germany or any other city or town name of any country I have heritage ties to.
    7. If you're a woman and want to somehow bring in your family name in your child's given name(s), look for names with a meaning and possibly origin that your own family name has. For example, my mother's maiden name means sailor or rope maker and has german and english roots. I can look for names that mean sailor or rope and if I want, I can expand the correlation to names that mean sea or ocean (which are abundant) or boat or anything I might connect to sailors to expand on. Boat vaguely ties into ropes as well but I'm unsure how to expand on the rope meaning further. 8. Passions and preferrances. There's a wealth of ideas there even if you think there isn't much to someone's interests. If you want to honor a loved one who is religious, use a religious name or one that mentions God or other fundamental beliefs in their religion. Or is someone is known to love chocolate, you can look for a name that has co, coco or cho in it and call the child coco as an affectionate nickname. If someone is interested in certain arts or creative pursuits, there's a wealth of names there too. It all depends on how daring or focused you want to be in such names.
    8. You can also combine name(s) of the loved one(s) to create a whole new name or combine a loved one's name with another name you like. But keep in mind many names only have one part that carries a specific part of a meaning behind a name so if that matters to you, make sure you use the part with the meaning you want if the meaning matter to you as opposed to the similarity or uniqueness. Looking up name meanings and which part means what is usually easy by looking them up on websites and many will list most info on the name you're looking for including which parts of a name mean what.
    9. When all else fails, you can always look up names on (baby) name websites and look at the list of other names that are similar sounding or variants of that very name. Just like how Harry and Meghan named their daughter Lilibet, which is a variant (and nickname) of Harry's paternal grandmother's name, Elizabeth. Not all name sites list those but once you find such websites, those name variants tend to be plentiful, but it depends on the name. And Elizabeth has many variants and similiar names in both sound and meaning.
Hope this helps anyone struggling between tribute/honorary names and having a more unique or creative name.

Thank you!! Beautiful name :) Have you checked if it was popular in Germany or not before naming your girl? Yes, you are right! I realized it some days after I filmed and didn't want to throw the footage in the garbage 🙊
My next video is a much better :P But I still think that I could have lighten it a little bit less. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/Fw8hIBh0zCg/v-deo.html

@@margaexpatmotheringermany yea I know what you mean. We didn't check the name for popularity beforehand. Maria is my husband's grandmother and we looked for names that sounded nice in combination. But then the argument started about the spelling! I wanted Annamaria, my husband wanted Annemaria. You can ask your husband to pronounce both names. Apparently they sound different, but to me they sound exactly the same. Needless to say, I won, and her name is now Annamaria lmao.

@@sherri-theamimammie6415 Ah ah! You go girl! I know, "e" in the end of the words sounds like a closed "a". In Portuguese we have those 2 different sounds, so I hear the difference. But anyways, they are very similar. I asked my husband, he directly said that he would prefer Annamaria, like you :P The pronunciation is not easy to deal with when we chose a name, our boy's name is not always rightly spelled... that is life :P

That's understandable. When I was a kid I used to hate my name, because I was the only one I knew called Margarida. But quem I grew up I really liked that there were only a few Margaridas 😅 perspective changes everything.

@@margaexpatmotheringermany yeah, I didn't know many Ryans. I only knew Brians. But that's changed a little in adulthood. We don't want an overly common name, but we also don't want a highly unusual or ultra rare name. Our disconnect is in that I'm German and my wife is Irish, so I'm looking for a German girls name and her an Irish girls name. She doesn't like Heidi, which is my #1 ha ha
