We travelled from Houston to Auckland on a sky couch. Well worth the extra cost. A business woman who, previously, had always travelled business class used the sky couch this return trip and was absolutely thrilled with it. She said she did over twelve return trips a year, business class! She said this was going to be her mode of travel from now on!
Oh, that's fascinating insight, thanks for letting me know. I'd love to try it out because it really should work (and nobody else is doing it that I know about). Good on Air NZ for being the innovators.
Air New Zealand also abandoned its fifth freedom right to fly from LAX to LHR. It was a great flight with very roomy seats in coach. It’s a great airline; it has a feel of the glory days of flying. The experience reminds me of PanAm and TWA in the 80s.
Indeed. So many people here in Europe lamented Air NZ axing the AKL-LAX-LHR route. Yes I realise long-haul flights are costly to operate but sometimes national airlines have to fly the flag in important markets. I mean look at the publicity which Qantas is getting for its expanding European services and that's before its non-stop SYD-LHR flights are launched (Qantas has ordered special ultra long range A350s from Airbus for this mission).
@@hughofIreland this was a great flight that I took myself many years ago. However, I never had the pleasure of PanAm as a comparison. My 80s flights were mostly Dan Air, Aer Lingus and BA
@@PlanetPatrick Hello Patrick, as a teenager I never appreciated PA or its heritage. My first PA flights were LHR-FRA-THF-FRA-LHR in the days when PA operated the 747 and when it operated those internal German services to THF (Berlin Tempelhof). This was winter 1970/71. Sadly PA's decline started in the 1980s with deregulation.
Great review Patrick. I wasn’t aware ANZ were using A321neos between Tasmania and Auckland! Thought they were just having the occasional A320 flights. Hopefully that’s a sign that the international flights out of Hobart are here to stay!
That's very kind of you! Yes, I didn't know quite what to expect until I looked things up that morning. Just had a look forward on the schedule and they're running this direct route (still with an A321neo as far as I can tell) 2-3 times a week through the early summer. Hopefully a sign it's profitable.
Hobart looked stunning! FYI the lollies arent for "landing nerves"; they stimulate saliva so youre more likely to swallow which helps to stop your ears popping 😊
The difference between standard and Works is $40ZND (22EUR) which is a bargain for a checked bag and seat selection when compared to most European flights. The meal really isn't the main appeal of the Works deal 🙂
Well, it might not be for you but it was for me! I'm just saying compare the regular cost with Air NZ of seat selection and bag vs The Works. If that's less on your route, I'd do that. But each to their own.
Great review, music is too loud compared to your speaking, and the volume keeps fluctuating. I had to turn it down so I can barely hear you talk, but the music was still obnoxious.
It's an automatic thing in the video editor that "ducks" the music. I'll have a look at trying to get the volume go lower (and it can depend on what you're listening on) - hopefully we can get that better. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes maybe just book regular Y instead Patrick. Air NZ's Sky Couch (hailed at the time as a "revolution'" in air travel) has turned out to be a flop. Was expected to be adopted worldwide but in the event just a couple of Asian airlines took on Sky Couch. Those sleeping capsules may suffer the same fate ... indeed I think that they still haven't been approved yet by the regulatory bodies. Kiwis in the UK lamented Air NZ's axing of its London route a decision has allowed rival Qantas to steal the limelight.
@@Auckland-girl Misunderstanding. I wasn't criticising Skycouch just pointing out that the media hyped the product at the time and inferred it would be operated by many airlines around the world. But it never happened ! Maybe Skycouch suits Air NZ more than the big boys as if it's "very popular" it proves my point.

All that beautiful blue sky. I'm in Sligo and I'd just about forgotten there was such a thing.
@@chickenlady3155 it’s still out there! High above the clouds.Hope you’re getting better weather this week.

Nice work. Must get to Tassie one day. 🙂FYI I think the hard-boiled sweets before landing are also supposed to help with ear pressurisation.
Thanks very much. Yes, it's really gorgeous - I didn't stay long enough though! Fair point on the sweeties!

Hobart is so beautiful. This was my very first trip there, but I'd love to go back.

Only in Hobart would you have to walk on the tarmac to board your plane
Thanks for the video
Well, we had lovely weather at least (could be a problem in a downpour!). Glad you enjoyed the video.

A triumph of hope over application, I fear.
Bizarre lil rant, I use sky couch all the time, love it on my flights to the u.s, and it's very popular, just booked it again to nrt. Ciao

@@Auckland-girl it’s great to get first hand knowledge! Does it make sense in terms of cost?
