Royal Blood I Only Lie When I Love You ~ Reaction and Dissection The Decomposer Lounge
So what he does is splits his output signal, one half goes to a bass amp and the other half goes through an octave pedal (an octave up) out to a guitar amp. Unique setup!
Jesse from Death From Above 1979 has been similar to that for years before these guys
@@spooksmalloy Local H anyone?
@@immaculatetoilet Bound For the Floor would be a great song for Geebz to react to
@@immaculatetoilet Christ, that's a deep cut, yes!
I think Jack White messed around with something similar in White Stripes possibly, can't remember
I also suggest “Figure it out” by Royal Blood. The pedal set up with a bass amp and guitar amp for Royal Blood is amazing. This song doesn’t give it justice. I remember seeing them live and asking myself “how is that possible?” That was Royal Blood’s first album. I’m looking forward to hearing more!
Figure it out is unreal! as is 'out of the black'
Would love a death from above 1979 reaction …
That's what i just said. DFA1979 does this style waaay better imo.
Saw them live when they were on tour with Queens of the Stone Age. They were GREAT! Their first album is my favourite.
I was thinking there's a little bit of QotSA sensibility to this, maybe some Black Keys as well. I may have even seen them open for Queens, I forget.
Josh homme from QOTSA helped produce their newest album
Saw them in Antwerpen in 2017, it was fucking awesome! The second album is great too
What an awesome combo
"Figure it Out" & "Lights Out" 🤘
please and thank you
Stoned Jesus, "I Am The Mountain". Long song, but it's AMAZING! Ukraine based band singing in English, super poetically driven!
seconded
Yooo! I love that song 👊🏼
Yes! Love this band and song. What a riff.
I saw these guys open for Foo Fighters in 2015. We had no idea what to expect from them, having never heard of them at all. They quickly blew the entire place to into tiny pieces. It was incredible. Their energy was non-stop, even for a short set. They left everything on stage. It was the perfect fit for a Foo show, too.
Yeah I'm still amazed there are only two people in the band incredible
From what I understand, Dave Grohl actually hand-picked these guys to open for them because he loved their music so much.
I doubt I'll ever get tired of Mike's riffs. He's such a monster, and Ben's pocket is the perfect vehicle. Love listening to these guys.
Vocal and riff hook monsters. “Little Monster”
I think the success of The White Stripes spawned the birth of all these 2-man bands and Royal Blood has been one of the best to pull it off since then. For me this sound totally works, love these guys!
here's a fun one to check out: Art by Numbers - "Best Laid Plans"
I'd say Royal Blood took a page from Local H before the White Stripes. Definitely more traditional rock vibes.
Another master-class two-piece - Check out "Black Pistol Fire" (Show Pony, Run Rabbit Run, and Bully - all good places to start}!
great reaction, ive always loved their logo too, a 6 eyed tiger is sweet looking lol
I really dig the first album from these guys, Out of the Black, Little Monster, and Better Strangers are highlights.
Can confirm!
I watched them live just as this album came out, they were excellent. Loads of energy
That actually came out today 7 years ago
Out of the Black is Gold!!!
Their 2nd album was just “ok” and the 3rd one was fucking garbage, they're just going donwhill. It's a shame, bc this band could be HUGE.
Death from Above 1979, another great bass driven 2 piece band, - anything from The Physical World album or earlier
i’d say Jesse Keeler definitely shows more technicality on later material; i definitely love all of their albums tho, but i think i’m more into both first and latest albums
So true, i think he'll like them.i Mention dfa1979 before in the comments. Also alexisonfire
Been waiting for Royal Blood. I’ve been following their journey. I’ll send a few more tracks you should decompose. From 2 guys. Love it.
Cheers, Jeebs
✌️
Hey man great break down! A Portishead reaction would be immense! The track 'Roads 'is a masterpiece!
More Royal Blood! Ten Tonne Skeleton. Out of the Black. Hook Line & Sinker. Boilermaker. Trouble's Coming. Careless
Really loved some early Royal Blood, like "Out of the Black" and "Figure it Out"
These guys have so many great songs... they always bring the catchy rock hooks with every song! They also just did a cover of Metallica's Sad But True that is super interesting and cool
They sound like they are ripping off Death From Above 1979
@@orangedrone Oh you can absolutely tell DFA 1979 is a big influence of theirs. IMO these guys are much better song writers/composers than DFA.
@@gr8avocado To me, it's too close to DFA1979. Influences are cool but, when you end up sounding nearly identical to a single band it's a little questionable. Maybe it's just this song tho.
Whenever I see some Royal Blood I always recommend people watch their performance of "Out of the Black" at Reading 2015. So good.
I love there song Troubles Coming its amazing
i beg you to give more of their stuff a go!!! loose Change is incredible!!
The original band to do this bass and drums style really well is Death From Above 1979, and you definitely need to check them out! Only do their early stuff to start, such as Blood on Our Hands. You will love it!
Love it when people recognise bands I love!!!
If you're looking for more fretless bass in metal, try Intronaut. In fact, their track "Valley of Smoke" is a bass duet/ co-write with Justin Chancellor of Tool. Super cool to hear the two basses weave together and the different tones they use.
Been dying for him to do a reaction on them!!! That band is FKn rad!!🙌🤘
For sure, Intronaut would be rad! "Elegy" or "Below" would probably be great intro tracks as well
Thanks for the recommendation, definitely going to check it out after this vid.
Oh great track! Love waking up to see this notification pop up, this gonna be good!
Thank you finally!!!
Lol, was just listening to your video about chevell and I was suggesting Royal blood… then I found this obe!
Yes! You finally did it, Geebz! This band is amazing! They instantly became one of my top 10 favorite bands when I discovered them a couple months ago. He uses a Y splitter to have a bass and a guitar-sounding sound on separate channels. You need to watch them play live (there are good vids here). Last week they released a cover of Sad but True by Metallica and its just mind-blowing. Its amazing.
They sound like they are ripping off Death From Above 1979
now this video makes me verrrrry happpppppy
I stumbled on these guys by seeing them live at a festival in 2017. I spent a while looking for the rest of the band. Amazing sound for just 2 people. They put on a fantastic show, also. Great energy.
For me one of the few bands today that give a proper rock sound
Royal Blood Out of the Black is my absolute favorite by them so fucking good!!
Btw!
More Mastodon!😂
YESSS!!! Listen to literally any other song of theirs! They don't have a bad song!!
"Figure It Out" is among my favs though, so if I have to name one, check that one out. Or "Out Of The Black" which has a crazy music video!
"Death from Above 1979" are also only bass and drums. Give them a try and listen to "Nomad"
LETS GOOO my fav band. Never would have thought theyd make it to your channel. Thanks for the vid!
aloha good morning you make my day every day u upload new video
Would love to see you do more of these guys!!
Still Here!! am very much hooked by royal blood ... and now I understand a bit more why...can we get more Royal Blood?
Love this song! One of the first songs I learned to play on my bass
Royal Blood - Oblivion!!! From the new album. You can check live version on their channel. It sounds even richer
Yes Royal Blood, thankyou Geebz. Saw them live when they released the first album and OMG the sound those two make you would have thought there were three or four of them on stage. Blew me away.
Royal Blood are riff beasts ! I suggest: Typhoons, Oblivion and Boilermaker for their big hitters.
These aren’t the big hitters by any means
Figure it out is the biggest hit probably
@@skippityblippity8656 for me they are hahaha, but to be honest , they have a giant list of bangers . theses ones are the most recent ones with video clips :)
@@bellybutthole69 The first album is full of bangers, their new stuff is great but I feel like the riffs don't shine as much
@@PIinian Typhoons might feel a big more "disco" than the first album, but it had my head banging most of the time still haha.
I see Biffy Clyro in the end screen of the screen recording... future episode on them? 😏
This freakin slaps! I feel like I Dont Know How But They Found Me would be a good one to check out too! Also a big bass lead band with some snyth stuff.
They got a lot of good songs, such as: Little Monster, Figure it out, Where are you now.
Check out 'Figure it out' from them! Really great song. I couldn't believe it was a bass guitar!
Love your channel bud, many thanks for what you’re doing. Hope this finds you well.
GENRE: Metal
BAND: Plini
SONG: Impulse Voices
GENRE: Hip Hop
ARTIST: Childish Gambino
SONG: This is America
GENRE: Jazz
BAND: Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet
SONG: Inter-are
Damn I’m early! Great song
Great band. One of the rock bands that I still come back to. I've always loved the bass tone so much
A kinda similar band is Death From Above 1979. Just as dope
You need to react to Death From Above 1979. Same kind of band from Canada. But Death From Above has been around since 2001
This band has been one of my constant favorites since their first LP released in 2014. This song is from their second LP a few years ago. They actually just had a new album come out a few months ago and it is SO GOOD. I would highly recommend the song Boilermaker from their new album, or Out of the Black from their first LP. Either way IMO there isn't a single bad song off of 3 LPs. One of the best 2 piece bands that exists in rock and the so glad they brokethrough and have a large following and radio play because they deserve it.
They sound like they are ripping off Death From Above 1979
@@orangedrone christ dude, you've commented that about 9 times now, we get it, you like dfa 1979 😂
@@Hmmyeah2019 They aiight. Not my fave.
@@orangedrone I have listened to plenty of DFA above and I don't feel that at all. Their songs are structured differently for sure and have a different groove.
Yep, just watched a recent video it’s a 4 string bass. You get a splitter and an octave pedal send one through an eq. the other to the bass or guitar amp. I think Jack White did it backwards of Royal Blood.
Would definitely highly recommend Out Of The Black
Check out some Death From Above, big in the early 2000s for base and drums
Out of the Black is their Masterpiece. Check it out.
I have heard of this band a little, and that they use the bass this way. I may have to get more into them! Cool sound, love the tone on those higher bends and stuff.
I'm not much of a metalhead myself so I love seeing you dive into other genres. Would love to see some reactions to bands like Clutch or The Sword
he did Clutch - XRay Vision the other week. some Sword reactions would be great
@@j2swanky thanks, I must have missed that one.
Loads of really good Royal Blood songs. Love Better Strangers. Especially the Like A Version acoustic version.
It could be incorrect but I heard that the singer's instrument is custom in the way that it has some guitar strings and some bass strings and that's part of how they achieve this sound
Oh I liked that :)
React to Hook, Line, Sinker by Royal Blood!! It’s one my favorites🔥🤘
This is a great band. You should listen to Highly Suspect. Try Bloodfeather or Lydia. You won't be disappointed. Love your channel.
That "rinse monster" slip of the tongue actually works in its own right :)
Omg! I was scrolling down and reading your comment as he said it! Synchronicity! 😃
Love this band dude🔥
Royal Blood are killer man, if you're looking for something similar try Death From Above 1979 (I recommend "Always On").
Heyyy Geebz!!! I discovered your channel recently and I have to say that your reviews are the most detailed and my new favorite of all the different music reviewers out there!!! It's an absolute treat to hear the perspective you share!
Anyways, to get to my point, I would absolutely be thrilled if you could take the time to review my favourite song of all time since the release a year and a half ago!!
I have seen you review some of my other favorite songs (Reptile, Of Matter), and if you could do a review of the song DARK by INVENT, ANIMATE, I think you will understand why I believe it will be my absolute favorite song forever!!!
I truly believe it will blow you away with how perfect it is in every way! 🔥
Much Love my Brother!! 🙏❤
Voting for a reaction to Ten Tonne Skeleton - thanks! Love the channel!
Geebz, reacts to Rob Zombie's brother Spyder1's band Powerman 5000. Their lastest release The Noble Rot (2020) is great. The band has really evolved since their industrial texhno metal days to delving into punk/new wave while still keeping their unique sound.
Songs I recommend off the release:
"Let The Insects Rule"
"Black Lipstick"
"Brave World Order"
"Cannibal Killers That Kill Everyone"
"Play God Or Play Dead"
Geebz! Your videos do NOT suck up any energy, they PROVIDE energy!
Kickass ROCKsong! Digging the rhythm and the sound...
Music- and vocalwise this track makes me think of the band OPEN HAND, especially the album YOU AND ME!
SUGGESTIONS:
MESHUGGAH - i (One track EP, 21 minutes)
THE FIVE HUNDRED - Walls of Jericho
:)
Out of the black is royal bloods best song
Please, please, please check out Local H. They are the pioneers of the two-person setup. Very unique sound, not a regular guitar or bass.
you listened!
Great band! Huge sound for only a two piece. The bass player splits his signal to bass amp then the signal to an octave pedal and guitar amp. oh, and a boat load of other effects. Out of the Black, Little Monster and Lights Out are a few other killer tunes.
I’d recommend Turbowolf - Read and Write (or anything off the debut album really). They’re much smaller and supported Royal Blood a few years ago but I’d say they’re much better and have some really cool psychedelic elements.
"Figure it out"!!!
Another band to check out with prominent bass is The Omnific. They have 2 basses and drums, one of my favourite bands. Love your content!
Young Widows - mirrorfucker or old skin, bass guitar drives the band
Converge - I can tell you about pain
Swarm of the Lotus - call to abandon
ddduuuudddeee, you really should check out Kings Of Leon - Echoing the engineering is insane!!!!
Little Monster would be my pick for the next song. Rock on man.
Local H been doing this shit for years... Amazing the sounds that band can make as a 2 piece.
watch their performance on Howard Stern. Unreal
Yup...2 guys....bass and drums; the important instruments ; )
A bit more chaotic in sound, but for a similar dynamic, you should check out '68! Their track "R" or "Track 1: R" is a good place to start :)
Royal Blood and Cleopatrick are my favourite bands as of right now 👊🏼
My Geebz reaction shopping list:
Fall of Efrafa
Deafheaven
Cult of Luna
… and more Radiohead
Please!
Excellent Geebiz! I have a timely recommendation to continue with this theme: MORPHINE. It is a trio with bass (two strings!), Saxophone and drums. Magnificent band
Not enough thumbs up for Morphine!
Ten Tonne Skeleton is a brilliant song from them! Another random song that would be fantastic for you to react to would be Custer by Slipknot
less is more for sure!
I think we need some more cowbell!
My favorite song of theirs! One of their favorite bands is Queens of the Stone Age. Time to circle back to them. 😁
Listen to some CONVERGE sometime! 😁👍
See, I learn so much from you, totally picked up on the space for the voice and then you said it. Yay lots! This is the type of base I want to learn. Any tips for beginner set, bass and amp?
I've played a wide range of different Ibanez basses including some cheap ones, and never met one I didn't like. For me on the starter end a lot of the time the most important thing I want is just a comfortable neck, so if possible you can always try a few starter basses out and see what feels nice. Places tend to have less bass selection compared to guitar, but usually at least a few starter instruments. As far as an amp you probably just want some kind of small combo with decent versatility that gets loud enough to jam a little if you want to fool around with anyone else. You may not immediately want to get into the whole pedal business so it's nice to have something with a built in drive or other effect, even if it doesn't sound terrific it'll give you some ideas and let you experiment. For years and years I used a 75 watt Line 6 bass combo amp, which was nice and portable and loud enough for me to play with a full marching band in a football stadium.
@@paramourcat awesome recommendations, thank you.
This really isn't my thing, but can appreciate that bass. For recommendation - Haken - Cockroach King. If the video alone doesn't make you smile, I'll never make another suggestion ever again.
FYI- AAL have bass on their recordings and use a bass backing track live. Tosin plays it pretty sure
Speaking of different genres YOU GOTTA check out Pendulum they are a drum n bass group with rock elements "Granite" is my favorite from them
If you ever do another Royal Blood track, please do "Boilermaker "
I went to see sikth and heart of a coward about 5 years back play in Liverpool and these were playing upstairs. They sounded pretty good but sikth amd HOAC were definitely my main focus
Heck yeah baby, if you would like to check out some more Architects Mike Kerr the bass player did a feature on the song Little Wonder and it's a really cool track with some interesting production techniques
If you haven’t done any Sleep Token please check out Sleep Token! Songs like When The Bough Breaks, Thread The Needle, The Offering, The Love You Want. I love your videos so much! 🤘🏻🖤
Great video. I'm also really digging the song too.
I would really for you do a reaction video to King's X. I think their song Dogman would be great for you.
