These new siege vehicles give me a new appreciation for the old "Moss" concept of medieval Rust, I think it'd be a really cool change to have a more medieval themed Rust-styled game without the convenience of explosives, I'm sure the reason for the development of that being halted or cancelled is likely due to the extreme lack of variety in combat but I think it'd be a cool thing to continue nonetheless.
They are working in something like this with eras and limited itens each era. Maybe some days everybody keeps prim locked, no explosive and Guns, just arrows and siege weapons.
@@tars_um My thoughts are they might do what I think they do in DayZ with seasons. Not really sure if this is what they will do, but with the Nextus system that would work into that well.
Siege weapons are honestly gonna be a really cool concept, I kinda can't wait to see how they'll play out I just hope they're practically useful and not just heavy and hard to get around terrain since most bases aren't really around roads
I imagine most people are just going to build them on site and leave them behind, would be fun to stumble on an abandoned catapult catapults would be pretty useful in a compound for raid base removal, too
I can already tell you just by just the looks of it, that these are gonna be completly useless junk with some fringe usecases at best... The most underrated thing about beige weapons is if the catapult explosive ammo is decently cost efficient. Raiding with it makes counter raiders stealing your ammo make it feel way more awkward for them to keep raiding unlike say rockets or c4

I quite don't understand the use case of these. 2 hours after forced wipe, there are already people running around with explosives. Why would people use these? Do they plan to re-balance the meta or something to make these useful?
Yeah this is a really good question. I think they will end up making explosives far more expense and hard to get to make the new siege weapons more practical.
In his previous videos you can see the devs working on a prim lock tier based game mode, where each age will unlock after x amount of time or something. So basically you can have the wood age, the stone age, metal age, etc. Some of these siege weapons would allow for prim raiding, while also being fun to use. I imagine the goal would be to push back rocket and C4 raids until much later game and encourage use of these weapons. The tower could also be adapted to reduce the need to build raid bases, or MRLS the compound walls first But really none of us understand where these fit yet, and there is a tonne of balance and testing to go. Overall it's just exciting to have the devs working towards features which makes wipes more interesting and the prim age last longer, so yes these weapons will require huge meta rebalancing if they want them to be useful in the current game, if not then they will create the age advancement game mode and make them more useful there, with less snowball to AK plays early on.
It will be interesting seeing how useful these weapons will actually be in practice. If they are all very slow moving, it sounds like something to be used for early morning officeline raids so you are not countered by everyone and getting your siege weapons stolen. Imagine raiding a stone wall prim town with this not having to use any gunpowder.
I rarely play this game anymore but Rust is still the only game that consistently releases really cool stuff every time. Insane how far this game has come since 2013.
Hmm, it'd be nice to be able to lock the weapons - especially the ramps on the tower and the cab on the ram. Would love to see a spiked shield that damages player on hit or with a bash option later on - maybe as a "mod" slot.
The siege tower is probably the most useful, for jumping over high walls. The catapult and ram look fun, but too much of a hassle to be practical, hopefully not
This looks pretty cool. In my opinion this is what rust should’ve been to start- rudimentary almost medieval style weaponry and warfare. We’re stranded on an island with nothing but scraps of other stuff to work with but we can craft rockets, launchers, assault rifles, etc.? Don’t get me wrong I love the game but this seems more appropriate for the theme. I do have to wonder how well the siege weapons will work when you’re up against M2/L9 fire from a rooftop
I cant imagine any of these barring the siege tower being that useful due to the nature of players & base designs being so focused of high cost and defendability alongside being built in a variety of terrain as by the time you've moved any of these into position you're likely to have already been shot and killed. If they added in a PURELY medieval mode into the game where it was just melee/bows/crossbows and you couldn't make a base above stone tier it would be a super fun, refreshing, and unique way to play that I think a lot of people would surely enjoy considering how much people that medieval rust game that was in beta not too long ago.

I just really hope they do a melee overhaul. Making melee weapons better, stronger and more fun to use.
