  • In this video I wanted to show how training prepared our dogs to concentrate amongst the noise and distraction of a typical driven shoot. Our picking up team are all field trial winners except for Jerzi (Aytee Juniper) who was just 7 months old and was there on the lead to just watch and learn! Training video. The fact that those GSP' s are so obedient is partly training methods but also very good breeding. A lot of GSP's are to 'heavy' to powerful. After 30 years of training GSP's I can confirm that. A good GSP must be very wel balanced and have will to please. As far as I know Lucy is crossing working lines x showchampions. This makes more biddable dogs. It is very sad that nowadays one talks only about the 'results'. I never hear something about 'how to breed'.... Kind regards from Belgium. Krist

WoW, the dogs are so obedient it’s amazing. You make it look so easy! My 1 year old is not even close to your 7 month old. I’m not an experienced professional trainer like you, just an average gsp loving person. I love the videos and it’s a great help, I started training my gsp on the whistle after watching one of your videos, I got myself a 211.5 acme as per your recommendation, so far so good after just one week ! I am not a hunter but I’d like to try training her to retrieve fake birds or things as a game, do you have any suggestions of what to use. Thanks !

Hi TheLesgumes glad the video inspired you to get training. These dogs are so much fun to be with when they start to learn stuff. If you dont want to buy dummies stuff an old sock and tie up the end. Fur (rabbit skin) or feathers (dried pheasant wings) can be attached to simulate game and increase her level of interest. Anything bouncy or squeaky is likely to make her over excited and bite or toss the dummy around and maybe keep her playing with it rather than bringing it back. Once she enjoys her retrieving it is a great way of giving exercise without her hunting around. Enjoy !

I hope my GSP will be this obedient. Do you use any books for information on training or is it all done by just you

Hi Lee, Ive always read training books, shared ideas with other people and if you are always ready to listen and learn you never stop getting advice. I think we all develop our own way that is unique. I dont change something if it works, but I never repeat something that doesnt work. Good luck with your training, enjoy your dog.

So Jersey is helping picking up at 7month old, would that age be to young to be on the beating line even if on the lead for experience or could that cause more problems then good like a habit of trying to chase the birds?

+KingofDeath I stick to picking up, for me beating is too noisy and exciting for them if trialling is the aim.
